Matt Baker throws towards a basket in the 35 degree weather at Steele Creek Park on Friday. Baker and his girlfriend, Lora Slusher, are from Christiansburg, Va. and by mid afternoon had played two rounds of Disc Golf as practice for a tournament on Saturday closer to home.
On March 2nd 2013 Zero Litter teamed up with the Hollins Roundhouse Neighborhood Association to do a neighborhood wide clean up. Over 30 volunteers, from all over the city, showed up despite the cold weather and occasional snow flurries. We concentrated on the western side of the neighborhood between S. Carey and S. Schroeder Street as well as a few vacant lots that had accumulated litter and bulk trash from illegal dumpers. All in all we hauled away over 4 truck loads of litter and bulk trash. Thank you to every one that participated!

A group of friends and I were walking towards Tokyo Tower when I saw these
statues hidden in between bushes. After looking up close, I noticed that
the statues were then wearing hats and a blanket of sorts. Despite these
being simple statues, Japanese people are considerate and consider how cold
these statues might be feeling.
Dad emailed me this snap from the BBC weather website when looking at the temperatures in Scotland before their xmas trip north.
Baby it's cold up north

Jeremiah and Danny stuck in the snow. I had to walk down and help push them out...they were supposed to be taking me to the store...I'm calling that "A Mother's Love".
I think this horse type is from Iceland. They have a thick fur and do not seem to mind the cold weather.
I really can't believe how much snow is sat on this body of water. There are paths full of footprints from one side to the other. The big puddle in the middle kinda puts me off. Well, that and the icy death if I fall through. No thanks.

With the cold weather that has settled in over the last 10 days the stream has fallen silent. The water has finally frozen, there were some spectacular frozen water falls which I think Tara captured on film before certain members of the family thought it amusing to break off. Ill try and post those later.
For now I can share evidence that the local fauna enjoy a bit of ice time. I suspect it might be the cat but the prints are a little big for him and its certainly not the dog. There is no way you would get Hazel on that pond and Bandit would have fallen in by now. Maybe we have the Michelle Kwan of the mountain lion world visiting.
I'm planning on putting up a web cam overlooking the whole thing soon - Pond Cam we'll call it. If I can find a reasonably priced night vision cam we might just catch our mystery skater on film. Right now I give him or her a 5.9 for artistic impression.
