Despite the cold weather and my extreme caughing, my Twin sister, Tara Herberger and I had a fun time at the Filznetzwerk annual meeting in Goettingen Germany. There was a gorgeous felt art show, great music and lots of wool...wool...wool...!
My grandma knitted this a long time ago to block the cold drafts that come under the doors in the winter. I'm sure that there's an actual name for it...but I have no idea what that might be.
From one of the first major snow storms of the season just as we're getting into the start of Spring now... was a tough winter. There were some good parts of it, but I'm happy to be finally coming out of it.
Most leaves are now gone from the street trees, just a few are hanging onto them. Crumb is tucked in on his box looking chilly, but is refusing to move. Ginger is in an outside box entirely hidden from sight. Snowy showers are forecast for tomorrow. Messages about Black Friday are flooding my inbox. It is still November but it doesn't feel like it. Christmas is coming!!!

It's cool virtually all over in the country. It's hard sufficient to work out as well as consume right also in the very best of scenarios, and also the chilly simply adds an additional layer of difficulty. The reality is that exercising in the cold can burn a few more calories because your...

Series 1 = daily morning temperature
Series 2 = Compost Pile # 2
Series 3 = Compost Pile # 1
Both piles, consisting of horse manure on sawdust / chip bedding, showed signs of winter doldrums. On January 20, I added 250 lbs or so of wet chicken manure mixed with two bales of straw, to Pile #2, mixing the whole up. In seven days, the pile temperature began to rise rapidly. The pile temperature has now leveled out and will be turned over shortly.
Pile # 1 was hot enough to throw off steam in the fall, but then cooled down to relative dormancy. On February 7, I added a coffee container of plain alfalfa pellets plus some kitchen veggie scraps to a hole in the middle and added water. I also poked holes in each corner of the pile with a rebar and filled these holes with pellets and water. After 12 days, the pile began to heat up significantly. Both piles have benefited from a black cover to retain heat and absorb energy from the sun.
stark contrast weather wise from yesterday's great weather, cold, windy and eventually some snow headed our way, and just when i thought we were done with cold and snowy weather

12/28/12 – Cold Winter
And it's sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind ain't been blowin' from the south
For some of us, winter is a time that we may avoid. We may just sit inside by a warm fire, dreaming of a hot summer. Not these two gals. Robyn and her daughter, Hailey, took advantage of the shining sun on this cold, cold winter day. And to my surprise, Hailey lost her first tooth right before the photo session. We had fun, spite the cold and goofed around quite a bit. Can you guess which one of them was on the naughty list?
It sure been a hard, hard winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And I hope it's gonna be a long, hot summer
And the light of love will be burnin' bright
