There is a lot to like about this compact and interactive exploration of the subject of permafrost - what it is, where it is, how it came to be, why it is changing, how come that matters, and so on. People of all ages will find things to attract their interest and feed their curiosity. But on this late morning before Christmas day only a few dozen visitors seemed to be distributed throughout the museum's 3 floors of exhibits.

It was just above freezing and I was out taking photos of frost, so the presence of this wasp caught me by surprise. It did give me the opportunity to photograph her from all sides with no objection whatsoever.

One of my regular visitors to the suet feeder. He is quite comfortable here as he has started 'resting' in various spots and positions in the tree and on the feeder. He will just sit/hang from one spot - almost as if he is sleeping. This was the case here; despite the feeder slowly swinging around in the wind he was just hanging on and 'resting'. The white behind him is a healthy layer of new snow on one the the tree branches!

I finally got some proper protection for my face for very cold days. I rode with this today in single-digit temps and was perfectly comfortable. Except, of course, for the feeling that people might have been disturbed by the sight of me...

My wife, Aneta, had a foggy wait on her first day of work this week. This was taken at the Lawrence Caltrain Station in Santa Clara, CA.
Tie-dye one of these babies for Hippie Gimp action!
Where to find white blindfolds... I suppose a cloth sleep mask would work. Tie-dyed as well, of course.
The forecast was for 10 degrees overnight so I camped out in some local bushland to see how my gear would cope. It all worked really well and I have no doubts that it can handle below zero. I also listened to a few random podcasts I had downloaded ages ago and found a real gem. Make yourself a coffee and sit down and have a listen.
I used two patterns from DCR #5 to make this turtleneck and jumper ensemble. Completely handsewn with only needle and thread since my sewing machine is not available at the moment....thanks to ficelia for inspiring me with her cute handsewn clothes for lati! I may just use needle and thread from now on,especially for those temperamental knits.
