These sheep in the shadow of Ben Wiskin mountain Co. Sligo seem immune to the cold with their wooly coats.
Ben Wiskin despite its distinctive shape is not near as famous as it's illustrious neighbour Ben Bulben, together they form part of the Dartry range which are north of Sligo.

The cold weather has been making conditions very bad for birds across the UK and they're all very hungry creatures at the moment. This scrum formed around a couple of good samaritans who had brought a loaf down to the river in the middle of Otley.
U.S. Air Force tactical air control party specialists assigned to Detachment 1, 3rd Air Support Operations Squadron prepare to commence an overland cross country ski movement during Operation Agipen 2 at Paxson, Alaska, Jan. 28, 2023. Agipen 2 was an unsupported, sustained cold-weather operation designed to validate equipment and previous arctic training in austere conditions. During the multi-day training exercise the 3rd ASOS special warfare Airmen conducted a long-distance, overland ski movement that included pulling individual pulk sleds by incorporating cross country skiing and skijoring. It was just above freezing and I was out taking photos of frost, so the presence of this wasp caught me by surprise. It did give me the opportunity to photograph her from all sides with no objection whatsoever.
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Christopher Leavitt, right, a tactical air control party specialist assigned to Detachment 1, 3rd Air Support Operations Squadron, briefs Lt. Gen. David S. Nahom, commander, Alaskan NORAD Region, Alaskan Command and Eleventh Air Force, and Chief Master Sgt. Kristopher Berg, senior enlisted leader, Alaska NORAD Region and Alaskan Command and command chief, Eleventh Air Force, regarding the recent acquisition of specialized climbing and cold-weather gear at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, April 21, 2023. The special warfare Airmen field and test specialized gear as they continue to develop arctic expertise that further enables mission success in austere environments, and better informs arctic working groups as they hone their cold-weather training program in line with the Department of Defense’s Arctic Strategy. The Arctic environment requires specialized training and acclimation by both personnel and materiel. The ability to operate and survive extreme cold weather is fundamental for contingency response or combat power generation in many potential operating areas. (U.S. Air Force photo by Alejandro Peña)
and the snow finally arrived to Madrid.
Happy New Year folks! I've been out of flickr for a while, enjoying vacation. Lots of pictures should come from London and NY soon.
Loved how the snow flakes got captured in the camera.
Ice forms to the left of the waterfall from the lake at Steele Creek Park close to the Rooster Front entrance to the park on a cold New Years Day in Bristol, Tennessee. The daytime temps only got into the low 20's.
After the freights cleared I returned to the depot, which I have to admit had all the charm of waiting in someone’s basement. A scattering of people came and went, but otherwise I had the place to myself. Still no news on the 8101, so when Metra announced the arrival of a westbound I stepped out to grab a shot.

12/28/12 – Cold Winter
And it's sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind ain't been blowin' from the south
For some of us, winter is a time that we may avoid. We may just sit inside by a warm fire, dreaming of a hot summer. Not these two gals. Robyn and her daughter, Hailey, took advantage of the shining sun on this cold, cold winter day. And to my surprise, Hailey lost her first tooth right before the photo session. We had fun, spite the cold and goofed around quite a bit. Can you guess which one of them was on the naughty list?
It sure been a hard, hard winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And I hope it's gonna be a long, hot summer
And the light of love will be burnin' bright

Cold weather brings snow.
With thermometers registering just 4C in Taipei, it was the lowest temperature recorded in the capital in 44 years and the second-lowest ever.

Unintentionally, my backpack, jacket, and helmet co-ordinate beautifully. Joel won the backpack in a raffle at a mountain bike race, I won the helmet as a doorprize at an alleykat, and I bought the jacket just before our cross-country trip because Joel told me I looked like a bag-lady in his old Cannondale coat that I had kind of commandeered. He had a fair point...it's from the early 90s and has seen rough service, plus it's meant for a man who is a whole foot taller than I am. I definitely looked a bit pathetic in his old coat.

It may not be a lot for those of you up north, but this is the frickin SOUTHERN USA. For those of you using metric system, 18 degrees Fahrenheit is -7.77 degrees Celsius. Adjusted for wind chill, it is 4 degrees Fahrenheit, or -15.56 degrees Celsius.
The first real frost of the year - I was out in the garden before work, photographing the frost before the sun melted it!
Hard to believe this was taken 13 days ago, while strolling through the gardens just after the sun came up.
Maj. Gen. Michael X. Garrett and Command Sgt. Maj. Bernie Knight, the command team of U.S. Army Alaska, invited every field grade commander and command sergeant major in USARAK and other Army commands in Alaska to attend the three day Cold Weather Orientation Course at the U.S. Army Northern Warfare Training Center near Delta Junction, Alaska. Arctic Tough Leaders from all over USARAK learned to survive, fight and win in cold weather conditions so they could effectively lead their formations in Arctic training and combat.
