People walk through frost haze in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk, about 2800 km east of Moscow, on December 16, 2012. The temperatures in Novosibirsk reached today -31C (-24F), but due to high humidity and strong cold wind, weather experts said it would feel more like -40 (-37F). AFP PHOTO / VALERY TITIEVSKY
The participants were introduced to the specialty unit “Mountain Cold Weather Company” through morning PT. MCW is one of the many specialty units Norwich has to offer for any rook or cadet willing to attempt and complete their indoctrination period, which starts in September and finishes in April. After completing the indoctrination period, also known as their “green stick” year, they are welcomed into the company. The company specializes in knot tying and mountaineering in all states of weather.
Mark Irwin worked for Convair as the Chief of the Film and Video Group from 1944 to 1977, during one of the most innovative and productive time periods of the company’s existence. His work covers Convair’s premier programs such as the Seadart, the R3Y Tradewind, the Atlas ballistic missile, the POGO and the Tomahawk cruise missile. In addition to routine filming projects, Irwin conducted a variety of unusual shoots such as cold weather (snow) environments at Squaw Valley and Bemidji MN, and in 1956 embarked on a 2 year assignment at Cape Canaveral, FL at the very beginning of the Atlas program.

It's that time of year when you may find yourself feeling that dreaded tingle on you lip that you know will eventually turn into a cold sore. Although cold sores can appear on your lip year round due to cold weather, sun exposure, stress, sickness, injury to the mouth or lack of sleep, outbreaks are most prevalent in the winter time. A new, informative and entertaining website, www.MedicineNotMyth.com helps you identify the right treatments that can help you prevent or shorten an outbreak and understand and avoid cold sore triggers.
12/28/12 – Cold Winter
And it's sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind ain't been blowin' from the south
For some of us, winter is a time that we may avoid. We may just sit inside by a warm fire, dreaming of a hot summer. Not these two gals. Robyn and her daughter, Hailey, took advantage of the shining sun on this cold, cold winter day. And to my surprise, Hailey lost her first tooth right before the photo session. We had fun, spite the cold and goofed around quite a bit. Can you guess which one of them was on the naughty list?
It sure been a hard, hard winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And I hope it's gonna be a long, hot summer
And the light of love will be burnin' bright

This is the start of our food supply. Year after year I've been told that I start it to early, I say you have to plant smart. I only plant cold weather plants first and the rest come after the normal last frost (March 15th here in east Texas). I guess that is because I come from New York and that I don't know how to grow a garden. I say that I come from a farm and "that farmers feed the world"..........

We are sooo blessed in this area to have cardinals as year round residents. The subtle beauty of the female is especially striking in the winter.

This is the time of year when you stay instead with your pets, relax, watch the snow fall and wait for summer to arrive.
Help your pup adjust to the cold temperatures by getting items like dog hoodies to cover his or her little fur. A new toy always helps ease the indoor stir craziness!
Thanks to arealight for these amazing custom helmets. I have a copy of almost everyone he has made recently and hope to complete those figs soon. I tried a couple of times to come up with a backpack design. I ended up with this; cutting the neck off of a white TLG backpack, flipping it upside down and gluing it on. Thanks to the little arms shop for the weapons.
You remember- that movie where Paul Newman plays a real estate agent who fake-defects to East Germany to steal their mortgage crisis secrets?
No, for real, a frozen soap bubble that landed in the sunlight. It tore instead of denting. Air temp -6ºF/-21ºC. I don't know how to make bubbles with thicker sides. Bubble mix hard to find in January- I had to take what they had.
