The NIT trains are always a unique catch to see on the Norfolk sub. One locomotive pulling a full size stack train down a branch line is to common these days. Goal is to eventually try and shot these trains deeper in Norfolk, Virginia to see them making their way downtown but they’re not the easiest to see. The old ford plant tends to be the best spot to have good fortune with catching these trains, hence why most of my shots would be located here.
NS NV03 comes around the diamond into Portlock with NS 6110 passing my brand to car. My dream car has always been a mini cooper, i don't know why but it always has and I've finally got one to boast with it. It is a stick but i learned how to drive just so i could get it lol.
M41006 is seen here waiting for clearance out of Acca yard in Richmond, Virginia. Obviously the star of the show is CSX's newest heritage unit ,at the time of this post, the Conrail heritage unit leading the way to Selkirk, New York.
Here in Huntingdon, PA the Amtrak station isn't much to look at and the mainline is down to two tracks, but the trains fly through in a hurry.
I played around a little until I got just the right shutter speed and I got my timing just right to capture the station sign between speeding tanker cars.
Luckily I had a big a umbrella because it was raining pretty hard when I took this photo.

Since for much of the year L519 begins (and ends) their trip at Ladysmith under cover of darkness you really treasure a beautiful long day such as this with great light and great power. One of my favorite spots on the Barron Sub are these reverse curves here west of Weyerhaeuser. June 29, 2019.
A CN manifest runs through the CN and CSX diamond in Wellsboro Indiana with a SD75i leading a GECX tier 4 Demonstrator trailing.
Very fun train for me, I've never thought id be able to railfan CN let alone out of state, but hear i am in Indiana with one of my railfan friends :)
CSX F781 power sits in Berkeley in South Norfolk with a crazy EMD consist. Seeing one of the 10 remaining SD50 on roster was honestly jaw dropping for me. Couldn't believe one had made it all the way out here and in Berkeley no less .
NS 273 fly's underneath the CSX A line with a rare KCS grey ghost leading down the line. We had to trim some branches down for a better angle of the train coming out from the bridge, i think it was worth it lol. I felt like every railfan was out for this thing and for good reason, never thought we'd get one on the Norfolk sub but here we are.
NV01 begins to cross over the eastern branch bridge in Norfolk with NS 3216 leading up front bound for Portlock

NS 273 begins to crawl out of Portlock yard in Chesapeake Virginia to Bridge 7 with a UP ACe leading the charge.
With railfans going around sharing their pictures on social media everyday now and it being a normal thing, it quite a normal occurrence seeing different railroads and motive power through are feeds. Of course this is something I myself part take in as well and see all these railroads others get to shoot on a regular basis. As a normal Virginia railfan who shoot his class 1 and handful of shortline in the area, I’ve always wanted to see other class 1s with their unique power sets. This dream was recognized on my summer trip to Michigan back in 2022. Me and my buddy Charlie went down to Indiana for a day to see what we could grab. Are first stop was Gary, Indiana, where a massive CN yard is located. With it being my second day out on the rails, I was blasted with Grand Truck engines, Illinois Central SD70s, and EJ&E SD38-2s. I couldn’t believe it, it was so cool to see in person. Here one of the shots I was able to grab, GTW 4927 sitting in the yard with IC 1002 & 1021.
Golden hour strikes and the sun begins to set early as it is winter months. Portlock yard release one more train before night fall being NS 273. 7654 is are leader today and with only a couple of containers and a bunch of well cars, 273 waste no time with blasting off from the Westend Portlock Signals in Chesapeake, Virginia.
My Lego model of a Southern Pacific MT-5. The real MT-5's were built between 1929 and 1930 in Southern Pacific's Sacramento shops. While they were originally built for passenger service, they soon became mixed traffic engines as more powerful engines; such as the GS class, took on the role of pulling passenger trains. Unfortunately, there are no surviving MT class locomotives. I specifically modelled #4369 as it appeared in 1946
