Be smart, view it large.
Clear Creek, near Redding, California, USA.
Brian and I met up for a shoot at Mossbrae Falls that day. This took place way back in September, shortly before the road trip to Utah, the double "Tahoe Sucks" experience and hot Thai curry slaughter in Brian's eye. On the drive back, Brian suggested to hit up Clear Creek which is on the way home.
Look at this man... there are clouds building up---maybe they will stick around. Nice!
Let's go. It's a good 20 minutes till sunset and Brian hits the Pri-Ho hard... we pull into the parking lot, color is developing, we grab our stuff and head off.
We reach the shore line where it should be an easy creek crossing, it's flat, sandy for the most part as I should find out later. Brian just mentioned that they eventually raised the level, releasing more icy water down the stream. Just follow me... easy as pie. Brian reaches the other side of the bank in the middle of the creek, I follow in the murky water he left behind.
SPLOOOSH!
Laughter followed the curse words that slipped across my lips eventually. I am soaked from half way down, fully equipped with iPod, my navigation device for the whole trip, my cell phone and most important, my Christina Aquilera wallet (as opposed to the Britney Spears one Brian's commentary wanted to make you believe.) I didn't even worry about my camera gear as I knew the LowePro keeps it dry and safe as we've been through a lot.
Wallet? Safe, quite wet but safe.
Cell? Soaked, but still working.
iPod? Only a couple drops of water.... flashing, no sound, impossible to turn off as the touchscreen isn't working. Nice! At least I can buy a new one now that the wallet is safe. Ha!
You alright?, it's sounding from the shore... I guess so. Let's keep going, sunset is not too bad and the moon is showing too. We continue over the sharp and slippery rocks, eventually finding some interesting shapes to shoot as the setting sun was lighting up some of the clouds --- of course, the most color was to be seen in the opposite direction where there is nothing to photograph.
I hope you enjoy --- I know I did.
Just as I was finishing up for the morning - given it was more of an 'unrise' than a sunrise I was walking back to the car when I saw this rusted concrete and though that it might give the image some life that had been lacking in the rocks I'd set up on.
To get the 'misty sea' effect I cranked the aperture down to f/18 and got an 8 second shutter. I've played with selective colour and sharpening on this original RAW image and dropped a frame around it for something extra ;-)
A creek actually, Mill Creek in Garfield Park Reservation runs right though the city limits of Cleveland Ohio. Mill Creek Falls at 48 feet in height are the highest in Cuyahoga County and were virtually unknown until the area was acquired by the Cleveland Metroparks in 2002 and opened to the public.

Kodak PixPro AZ522, Opteka circular polarizer (thank goodness for the 52mm filter threads! I think it really made a difference for the sky and water shots)
Duke Gardens Durham North Carolina USA. Sorry to club all of you over the head with so many Duke Gardens photos. But the day and a half I was there the gardens really were magnificent. I have never been there when it was like that. It was so overwhelming for me that all I could was just keep photographing, like a kid in a candy store. I took over 1000 photographs.

met up with a couple of friends down at Olive Park to do some sunsets and blue hour shots...it looked pretty good for a moment there but about half an hour later from this shot, the whole city was just engulfed by this massive, thick fog and mist that you could not see the skyline anymore...so we left the park and had fun doing light trails and granite reflection shots in the city...dialed down my aperture to f/22.0 for this capture to get that nice bling...pls. A trip to Ironbridge was the order of the day and what a beautiful day it was as well. Used my circular polarizer and made the sky and clouds pop. In fact they popped so much I had to turn them down in photoshop.
While in Sedona we visited Slide Rock State Park...I waited long enough for most of the swimmers and sunbathers to move out of the way...the water was very cold...
This was a 3 sec daytime exposure to blur the water for effect using a Variable ND filter and polarizer on my Tokina 11 to 16mm at F22 and ISO 100...consequently a few of the people near the sides who were leaving were mostly blurred out with their movment away from the scene.

A little overexposed, but this was the best I could do with a long exposure in broad daylight. I stacked my ND and circular polarizer for this one.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - This was one of my favorite views at Siloam Springs State Park. Because there were no leaves, I could see from the top of this hill down into the valley next to McKee Creek.
i woke up on time at 0330am this morning with the intent of taking sunrise shots...the problem was i fell back asleep as soon as i turned off my alarm clock....when i opened my eyes, it was 0500am and had to hurry up but kind of knew that it was too late so idecided to head out to Chicago Botanic Gardens again and spent quite some time following this bee around just to get a decent shot....you won't believe how many shots i took and erased....i wanted a hovering shot but failed...this one is pretty close as he is about to lift off and hover....LMAO!!!!! pls. One can easily understand why Trump decided to have his tower built where he did. Taken in the early morning hours, his building glows like a beacon as it reflects the sun's radiance.
The reflection was so intense that it caused my lens and polarizing filter to star and flare significantly!

I used a stacked ND4 filter and circular polarizer. Final Image was edited in Adobe Lightroom 4 and Nik Color EfexPro4.

This is my first experimentation with using a CP Filter to try get th planes to stand out better from the sky. I think it worked quite well.
A black & white rework of an image I originally posted in color. I thought it worked rather well in monochrome. Thoughts?

My wife is graduating from the University of Kansas this May and we decided to do something fun for graduation announcements. We wanted pictures in front of the Campinile Bell tower since it's a big landmark on campus and the graduates walk under it on Commencement day. Other locations we tried were crazy windy but this one turned out pretty good.
I used a B+W Circular Polarizer to get the super blue sky and drop the exposure a bit. I had the ISO set to 250 instead of 100 because I forgot to knock it back down after my last shoot.
