"Lonely as God, and white as a winter moon, Mount Shasta starts up sudden and solitary from the heart of the great black forests of Northern California." ~ Joaquin Miller
"When I first caught sight of it over the braided folds of the Sacramento Valley, I was fifty miles away and afoot, alone and weary. Yet all my blood turned to wine, and I have not been weary since." ~ John Muir
Mount Shasta is 14,179 feet high and 75 miles away in this three county view. Mount Shasta in Siskiyou, the grass and oaks in Tehama and the dark hills are part of Shasta County. In another twist, Mt. Lassen is not in Lassen county but in Shasta.
On our around the Mesa Arch (Canyonlands National Park, Utah, USA), I came across this dead tree - just something I couldn't take my eyes off. From a technical perspective, the lens is wide open and displays the resolving power of this lens - which is quite substantial!

This was the view right out the window of our room at the St. Regis, located in the northern region of Kauai. This view, overlooking Hanalei Bay, was stunning! If someone told me there was a hotel with a better view, I'd have to see it for myself to believe it.
Found these unique coloured and textured rock formation on the southern end of Forresters Beach. About 30m from the breaking water, the waves sweep through and result in the water collecting in this area.

Winter hike on the Falls Trail with my hiking and photography companion, Lori Deiter.
We hiked Glen Leigh (up to Shawnee Falls) and Ganoga Glen (up to Ganoga Falls). I quick-checked Adams Falls, but only snapped an iPhone pic of it.

Last two shot of Kauai Hawaii series - caught at dusk. It's almost as if someone had painted France's flag in the sky...
- www.kevin-palmer.com - My goal after setting up camp near Big Bluff was to hike into Hemmed-in-Hollow. But I couldn't find the trailhead and it was only afterwards that I realized I walked right by it. After getting lost for an hour I had to make my way through thick bamboo to get back to where I was.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - After a much longer than expected hike, I made it to the 3,192 foot summit of Coyote Mountain just before 10AM. There was an abundance of cholla cactus and agave plants at the top, both of which stabbed me in the legs. Before leaving I found the summit register which contained a Sony camera lens for some reason and a log which was last signed over 14 months ago. In retrospect I should not have pushed on to the summit. I had a steep 5 mile descent ahead of me while temperatures soared to the upper 90's with no shade available. I didn't bring nearly enough water and was on the verge of heat stroke by the time I made it back to my car.
Ash Cave is without a doubt the most spectacular feature of Hocking Hills State Park. It is the largest, most impressive recess cave in the state of Ohio. The horseshoe-shaped cave is massive; measuring 700 feet from end to end, 100 feet deep from the rear cave wall to its front edge with the rim rising 90 feet high. A small tributary of the East Fork of Queer Creek cascades over the rim into a small plunge pool below.

This beach in Wailea, right outside the restaurant, Sarento's on the Beach, was an incredible place to catch the sunset. There were so many elements of interest, including the silhouetted backdrop of West Maui.
By the way, I'd highly recommend eating at Sarento's on the Beach if you ever get the chance! The seafood and the service is incredible, and this is the sunset you'll be treated with.
Spent some time late this afternoon at Fifty Point...sure was great seeing these icicles covering the pilons...

This is the first time I've tried using Hawkeye Traffic film with a polarizer and it's not a very good combination - or I dialed in too much.
I pushed the latitude of it over the edge as well, most of the other shots from this roll have blasted highlights. But considering what Kodak's initial intended use for it was plus it's age this is not surprising!
