On my way back from my little outing to Plymouth's Barbican and Hoe I spied a somewhat weatherbeaten fishing boat, with rusted booms and chains.
The way the booms and chains traced lines in the sky caught my imagination and I felt I had to capture it.
This shot was post-processed in Adobe Photoshop CS2 with a fake HDR technique to show up the rust better.

On an autumn night, the Earl of Shrewsbury was returning to his home at Alton Towers when an old woman suddenly appeared in the road ahead of his horse and coach. The coach stopped to find why she was there at which point the old woman begged for a coin. The Earl cruelly dismissed her, so the old woman stated that she would place a curse on him. The old woman told the Earl that for every branch on the Old Oak Tree that fell, a member of the Earl’s family would die. The Earl refused to listen and continued on his way.
That same night, a violent storm caused a single branch from the old oak tree to break and fall. Later that evening, a member of the Earl’s family suddenly and mysteriously died.
Now firmly believing in the power of the curse, the Earl is said to have ordered his servants to chain every branch together to prevent other branches from falling. To this day, the Oak tree remains chained up.

This necklace is made from a vintage pocket watching, hung on vintage dark brass and faux pearl chain. Unfortunately the pocket watch no longer works, but it still looks classic.
Upside down stump with rusty chain draped on it for visual interest.
This piece was subsequently destroyed by a large white tail deer buck that took issue with it.
An old wedding photograph sits in the window of a derelict building behind a steel grate near Central Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The wedding party, protected from the viewer both physically and temporally, is free to return our stares. The steel grate is reflected in the sky of the wedding photograph itself, adding a strange and ominous tone to the otherwise cheery image.
Streets in the old town of AHmedabad are very product-specific. This one sold chains and other metal construction products, the next one sold sweets, then books, then shoes, and so on through the city.

A rope bridge tended by local women used to be quite popular with visitors, but it has been replaced with a steel pedestrian bridge.
