Opened in 1962, Washington Dulles International Airport was constructed to provide additional commercial air transportation capacity to the Washington, DC region, and was planned by Civil Engineering firm Ammann and Whitney. The most notable structure in the airport complex is the Main Terminal, a Modern structure designed by Eero Saarinen, which features a catenary curve concrete roof suspended from columns on either side that lean outwards to counterbalance the structural forces of the roof, with the landside columns of the terminal being higher than the airside columns. At the center of the terminal is a distinctive control tower with a concavely curved concrete base, with multiple tiers of control rooms above featuring windows that taper towards the bottom and a large antenna atop the roof. The main terminal was extended to either side in 1996, matching the original design and doubling the size of the main hall of the terminal. The airport is notable for its use of approximately 50 mobile lounges, large multi-passenger vehicles, which shuttle airline passengers and crew between the main terminal and airplanes parked on the tarmac, which are each named for a different US state. The airport also features multiple midfield concourses, which were built starting in the 1980s, and vary in size and design from the older, lower concourses which feature gates that require passengers to walk on the tarmac, and newer, taller concourses that feature jetways and soaring ceilings, which are connected to the main terminal via an underground train system. The airport today serves as the primary hub for international flights in the Washington, DC region, with more limited domestic service compared to the nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The MDG-F-supported joint UN programme "Strengthening the Philippines' Institutional Capacity to Adapt to Climate Change" is encouraging the introduction of Arabica coffee (over the more traditionally-planted Robusta variety) and the transplanting of Arabica bare-rooted seedlings. Under the Forest Enrichment option of the project, seedlings are planted beneath pine and alnus trees. Alnus trees are nitrogen-fixing trees and are helpful for the growth of coffee. This practice can promote slope stabilization and serve as a source of additional income, if not the source of main income. Farmers of coffee for forest enrichment can expect stable streams of income once the coffee trees start to mature in two to three years.

Since the beginning of the HOME Program, the State of Vermont’s CHDO capacity building efforts have been extraordinary. Under the leadership of the State and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, the entity selected by the State to administer its HOME Program, the CHDO network has grown from two nonprofits covering three counties to 10 CHDOs and several nonprofits covering the entire state. In the last ten years, the CHDOs have been responsible for the development of nearly 3,000 units of affordable housing, of which 1,000 are HOME units. More than half of the HOME-assisted projects have been developed in communities as small as 1,000 people, yet projects have also been undertaken in exclusive resort communities like Manchester and Vermont’s largest city, Burlington. These projects have cleaned up brownfield sites, revitalized neighborhoods, and served people with extremely low incomes and disabilities. CHDOs play a vital role in executing the State’s major housing-related goals as articulated in its Consolidated Plan: (1) providing decent housing, and (2) providing a suitable living environment. The plan for increased CHDO capacity occurred in three stages: creating and expanding the capacity of CHDOs to develop affordable housing; expanding the asset management capacity of CHDOs and other nonprofits; and expanding the capacity to manage high energy prices. The major activities for implementing this plan included outreach, financial support and incentives, training and targeted technical assistance, monitoring and evaluation, and troubleshooting and project workouts when necessary. This strategy for increasing CHDO capacity, coupled with the commitment to provide permanent affordability and serve the most vulnerable of populations, has resulted in affordable housing in every county of the State.

The ‘Ecosystem-based Adaptation South’ project seeks to help the Seychelles, Nepal and Mauritania to adapt to climate change, in part by restoring natural habitats across all types of ecosystems. In the Seychelles, on-the-ground ecological restoration will rehabilitate 29 hectares of mangrove and wetland forests, thus providing natural flood barriers. The National Mosque of Malaysia is located in Kuala Lumpur. It has a capacity of 15,000 people and is situated among 13 acres (53,000 m2) of beautiful gardens. The original structure was designed by a three-person team from the Public Works Department - UK architect Howard Ashley, and Malaysians Hisham Albakri and Baharuddin Kassim. The mosque was built in 1965 on the site of a church, the Venning Road Brethren Gospel Hall which had stood there since 1922 but appropriated by the Malaysian government[1]. The mosque is a bold and modern approach in reinforced concrete, symbolic of the aspirations of a then newly-independent Malaysia.

Its key features are a 73-metre-high minaret and an 16-pointed star concrete main roof. The umbrella, synonymous with the tropics, is featured conspicuously - the main roof is reminiscent of an open umbrella, the minaret's cap a folded one. The folded plates of the concrete main roof is a creative solution to achieving the larger spans required in the main gathering hall. Reflecting pools and fountains spread throughout the compound.
