What is earth's CARRYING CAPACITY for a modern, industrialized humaninty with, at a minimum, a Western European standard of living for all?
Many economists, policymakers, and even some academics MISTAKENLY imagine that humanity's maximum population size is largely or exclusively governed by various "running-out-of" suppositions such as running-out-of food, or water, or oil, or resources.
There are OTHER, quite powerful limiting factors, however, such as:
(1) Levels of sheer physical ERADICATION of the only planetary / biospheric life-support machinery so far known to exist anywhere in the universe (would you eradicate 50% or 93% of the operating systems of an automobile, a space vehicle, or the human body, for example, and expect it to continue to function as it has always done in the past?), and
(2) Production of WASTES (again imagine the owner of automobile or space vehicle who every day adds unprecedented, ongoing and, ever-increasing levels of wastes to its radiator, gasoline, battery fluid, brake fluid, air-intake system, and gasoline and then cannot understand why his vehicle, which has always worked in the past, doesn't function anymore). Not so bright, is he?
Why should we expect that the earth's biospheric life-support machinery is invulnerable?

Cottam Power Station, coal fired, was opened in 1968 by the Central Electricity Generating Board. It had a capacity of 2000MW and ceased operations in 2019. There is a proposal to build a "garden community" of 1500 homes on the site when demolished.

We worked with Tseshaht and Hupacasath Fisheries to host a field trip that highlighted the different opportunities in the marine and fisheries industries. Youth Tech Festival 2011, Amman, Jordan: Building Youth Capacity to Drive Social Change
WLP-International and WLP Jordan/SIGI/J, with support from the Jordanian High Council of Youth, held our third annual Youth Tech Festival from June 6-8 in Amman. Roughly 100 youth participated in this year's Tech Fest, which focused on youth and women's economic empowerment
In order to build the capacity of our partners across the MENA region, WLP brought representatives from our partner organizations in Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, and Palestine to participate in the TOT and facilitate the Tech Festival.
Prior to the Tech Fest, WLP and SIGI/J held a two-day Training of Trainers (TOT) Institute, in which the facilitators practiced sessions from the Tech Fest and participated in tutorials on using social media for advocacy.
WLP and all of the facilitators were hugely impressed by the work of the participants, who created resources for finding jobs in various sectors in Jordan, and created and launched their own advocacy campaigns in support of youth and women's economic empowerment.
EIF is supporting Cambodia to build its capacity to formulate, implement, manage and monitor a pro-poor trade policy.
Cambodia has developed a roadmap that serves as the country's trade strategy and identifies 10 priority sectors for development, of which the EIF is currently supporting five: milled rice, high value silk, fisheries, cassava and hospitality.

IFLA's Building Strong Library Associations programme held its Latin America and Caribbean convening from 24-27 March 2014 in São Paulo, Brazil. The meeting included representatives from IFLA LAC, IFLA Governing Board and FESABID. 8 associations participated in the convening, including FEBAB (Brazil) which acts as a national and umbrella association in the country. In addition to the association representatives, trainers came from Peru, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina.

HD and The Habibie Center (THC) brought local stakeholders and interfaith actors from both sides of the divide together in a neutral setting for them to discuss the communities’ issues.
HD and THC organized capacity building workshops on dialogue, mediation and peacemaking. These workshops were tailored to the local context and targeted at relevant interfaith actors or institutions. They included trainings on practical skills such as mediation approaches and what works for different contexts; explored confidence building measures; and communication skills in a conflict setting.
