NS 165 reflects nicely off of the Holston River as they roll through Bluff City, Tennessee on a cool Fall morning.
Snow melt fills this mountain lake with some of the purest water you'd ever want to drink! As the water in our canteens warmed or was depleted, we always made certain to fill up or replace it before moving on. Date stamped on the slide frame indicates this was a 1977 trip.
And they said it would be foggy. Not only was it clear but it was also cold!! I'm really liking the fact that all of the construction cranes are gone. The city is really looking good! I came down here to try out my new fisheye on the sculpture but there was a news crew filming election results and they were right in my way. Bastards! I moved on down away from them and took advantage of their lights which were shining on the trees.
This shot is straight out of the camera. My white balance is a little off but I like it.
From Mrs. Macquarie's Chair in Sydney, Australia. Beautiful clear evening a week and a half ago. Sydney is one of the most beautiful harbors I've seen. It was a pleasure to photograph.
As i mentioned earlier in my previous post, they are parts of the wooden planks pathway where water flows underneath it. At certain sections, the water level rose higher till you can see the water coming through the gaps.
The above shot is part of the route in the Plitvice National Park in Croatia - one of the first registered natural sites of the UNESCO World Heritage. Also famous for its green and turqoise crystal clear waters and its 16 cascading lakes.
Taking pictures, especially long exposure shots, was quite a challenge. First of all, there were a lot of people walking on these pathways. It took quite some time till the pathways were clear from walking tourists. Even after they walked past you, the vibration of the planks created while they were walking away will surely contribute to a shaky image. That means i had to wait a long time till the path was clear and at the same time had ample time to take long exposures without any vibrations interference coming from the people walking behind me. STAY AWAY from big school trip groups. They will purposely stomp while walking on the planks and sometimes deliberately make themselves to be in the frame of the shot. It can be annoying at times. The second problem was, the pathway was quite narrow. Once i set up the tripod, it was quite hard for people to get through and if they do, the probability of them accidentally hitting one of tripod's legs is very likely, which will then result, also, in blurry images. And if they were people coming, long exposure shots will definitely cause some traffic holdup. But they were a couple of tourist who waited patiently while i was taking pictures. My deepest gratitude for your patience and kindness to those who had visited Plitvice Lakes on the 1st of June and had waited for a photographer to take his long exposure shots.

Elafonissos is a small island just off the coast of Laconia, Peloponissos, Greece. It actually used to be part of the mainland, until an earthquake, in 375 AD, transformed it to an island, at a distance of about 10 minutes by ferry from the mainland.
With the sand being just off white and the waters crystal clear, shallow and a rather unique turquoise, some say Elafonissos is the Greek Maldives... as close as one can feel like vacationing in the Tropics, while still being in Greece...
They may be right... After all, Summertime is to many (yours truly included) some sort of religion and with religions one only needs to believe - no questions asked, no questions necessary...

Crystal clear blue sky - ideal opportunity to capture the waxing crescent Moon in the late afternoon ;0)
Cool crisp air and a breeze light as the wind blew in off the Pacific and cleared the fog that had permeated the shoreline much of the day creating a crystal clear sky with brilliant starlight. Driving down California's Pacific Coast at night during a full moon is possibly one of the best ways to see some of the coastline. The light from the moon turns the ordinary in to magical scenes. The gulls have all roosted and the skies are wonderfully clear. The typical waves that are usually massive were calm and the night unusually quiet making for a special moment in time unlike any other.
In order to stop the Coast Guard beacon in motion I had to set the camera to ISO 1600 and f/2.8. Even so, it was still a 3 second exposure so timing had to be perfect. I was a little worried about noise levels but the new Nikon D800E came through again. Even at ISO 1600 the noise was minimal.
I am really going to miss the annual lighting that normally takes place in November but lets hope they can get the repairs done quickly and the event will return in a few years. Pigeon Point Lighthouse is really stunning when the main Fresnel Lens is turned on.

This is without a doubt one of the most astonishing views I had during my day trip to Ko Phi Phi islands. Crystal clear waters, white sands and green mountains on the background, a perfect landscape that makes you feel you´re dreaming of it.

A small, out of the way area. Crystal clear water, litter free sandy area, plenty of parking. Heaven!
A self-portrait standing on the tombolo island under the night sky and the Milky Way. Cook County, Minnesota.
Last night, the sky was crystal clear and midnight black. I've had this picture idea for awhile and knew that the Milky Way this time of year would be in the perfect position to make it happen, so I went to the tombolo.
After taking my normal nightscape shots, I decided to do a self-portrait standing on the tombolo island under the night sky and the Milky Way. This island is on the Superior Hiking Trail, and it's one of my favorite places to photograph. I love putting myself into pictures and in this case I think it really emphasizes how small we really are when compared to the the stars in our own galaxy, let alone the universe. When looking at all those stars, I have to believe that we're not alone in the universe. There's probably something/someone just like me out there looking back and thinking the same thing - someone who constantly dreams of adventures and someone who doesn't fit well into society's cogs.
I like the symbolism in this photo. The small silhouetted island stands out among the sea of stars and the Milky Way. It seems a fitting metaphor for earth. You can see the version without me standing in it on my website.

The Adirondacks are full of picturesque lakes with little islands, and they're extra photogenic from above. Even more so when the colors are peak!
This shot is an HDR/AEB merge, with the sky and birds composited in from another shot, since my little Mini 3 sensor really struggles with skies. Maybe Santa will bring me an Air 3S this year :)
Final resting place for those beautiful ephemeral ice sculptures that come from the nearby glacier. Can't get enough of these shots, amazing Iceland for sure!
