Smile on Saturday

This one makes me think of crystal clear pool water when the sun shines on it. My son says it looks like lightening flipped upside down...

A nearly unknown and well hidden lake in the middle of the Swiss Alps - a round-trip of about 9 hours of walking, walking and walking, and not to forget: 3600 feet uphill and downhill, too!

Ein praktisch unbekannter und versteckter See in den Schweizer Alpen - hin und zurück ca. 9 Stunden zu Fuss unterwegs inkl. 1100 m rauf und runter, also nicht zusammengerechnet, sondern je rauf und runter!

Take a clear crystal bathe it in Light, then the most amazing colours are revealed...... A beautiful mystery.

No morning is ever the same and I guess this is why we photograph the same places over and over again....something is always different.

Common Drone Flies keep coming to enjoy the pollen of the remaining Gazanias. In this position, either the eyes or the wings stand out. On this picture, the wings are magnificent, sparkling and crystal clear.

The lake reflects the azure sky and the white clouds. Trees of different shades of green create a contrast with the blue water. Mountains loom over the lake, their slopes dotted with rocks and flowers. The sun warms the air and the water, inviting a swim or a picnic. A tranquil and splendid scene.

TJ Lake and Crystal Crag

Relaxation, tranquility and tremendous enjoyment being there and seeing the calm that surrounded everything around me, it was a crystalline landscape on a day when only the lament of the birds could be heard in the distance that was confused with the closeness of the moment.

After crossing 803 in the loop at Cora Lynn, DXC5356 and DXC5304 race across the Waimakariri River bridge with a load of coal from Ngakawau to the Port of Lyttelton at Christchurch for export as 850.

Waterfalls are undoubtedly one of the most magical natural wonders in the world. It’s incredible how they can be so beautiful and calm yet roaring and powerful at the same time.

“There is a waterfall in every dream. Cool and crystal clear, it falls gently on the sleeper, cleansing the mind and soothing the soul.”- Virginia Alison

Three crystals, the third is very big and is the background for the smaller two you see. A 9 shot focus stack to clear things up a bit. The crystals are sitting on glass so they reflect and the large crystal can be seen. The light is the sun from behind

I took this photo at Five Islands, a small coastal community within Georgetown, Maine.

Idyllic Swiss mountain landscape

What could be nicer than staying by a mountain lake and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere there? Hardly any mountain lake attracts me more than this one. I visit the place in the Swiss mountains again and again and am always fascinated by its unique beauty. Especially because it looks completely different in every season. I love this landscape more than anything. It gives me so much new strength in my heart and every time I leave here I hope that I will come back here soon.

Wow, what a challenge! I just conquered a fast-moving stream by rock-hopping – talk about an adrenaline rush! Luckily, the rope helped keep everyone balanced.

After pushing through those trees, I finally emerged onto a stunning black rock beach at Lake Nordenskjöld. The water was glacial and crystal-clear, but swimming is a no-go in the park. Still, it was breathtaking – and there were even some brave souls sunbathing on the rocks!

Feeling energized, I checked my altimeter – 70 meters (230 feet) above sea level! My destination for the night, Mountain Hostel Francés, sits another 50 meters (164 feet) higher at 120 meters (394 feet). Relief washed over me – those 17 kilometers (10,56 miles) seemed much shorter now!

While hiking on the beach, I thought I was about to score some delicious Pisco Sours – I was practically celebrating already! But then I checked my map, and my heart sank. It showed a crazy distance – 3,200 kilometers (1,988 miles) or 1.5 hours left! Yikes! Thankfully, it was just a misplaced decimal point, not the end of my happy hour dreams. Phew! Back on the trail, and definitely keeping a closer eye on that map from now on! ️

Now, here I am at the base of the incredible Cuernos del Paine with the even grander Paine Grande in the distance – the park's highest peak! Between them lies the majestic Francés Valley, my reward for conquering tomorrow's hike on day three of the W Trail. My hostel is nestled between these two giants, right on another beach.

Time to ditch the complaining and embrace the adventure – climbs, descents, and epic scenery await! Here's to unplugging and soaking it all in.
