Resto sempre abbagliata dalla bellezza del lago Santo. Limpido come pochi.

The drive from the glaciers to Queenstown is beyond beautiful. The mountains, the lakes, the waterfalls, sheep, vistas and valleys are changing at each of the many twisting turns. We were pulling over the side to take photos every 10 minutes. The drive is shown to take 4 hours but took us about 8, including a glacial swim in the crystal waters here. Pulled over on one of the vistas, walked down the cliffs and had the place all to ourselves.

Our hitchhiker was a photographer with a keen eye for the scenery and an enthusiastic rock skipper so we enjoyed the views and the company.

I collected several of these glacial rocks, perfectly flat, oval and shiny, and will have to see if they fit in my luggage.

I'll meet you there.

the world is too full to talk about.”

The Königssee near Berchtesgaden / Bavaria / Germany on a cloudy winter day.

The Königssee is a natural lake in the extreme southeast Berchtesgadener Land district of the German state of Bavaria, near the Austrian border. Most of the lake is within the Berchtesgaden National Park.

Situated within the Berchtesgaden Alps in the municipality of Schönau am Königsee, just south of Berchtesgaden and the Austrian city of Salzburg, the Königssee is Germany's third deepest lake. Located at a Jurassic rift, it was formed by glaciers during the last ice age. It stretches about 7.7 km (4.8 mi) in the north-south direction and is about 1.7 km (1.1 mi) across at its widest point. Except at its outlet, the Königsseer Ache at the village of Königssee, the lake similar to a fjord is surrounded by steeply rising flanks of mountains up to 2,700 m (8,900 ft), including the Watzmann massif in the west. The railway Königsseebahn served the lake from 1909 until 1965. Its last tracks were dismantled during 1971, and the station in Berchtesgaden was demolished in 2012. The only remaining element of the railway is the Königsee station (now a restaurant). The track route is mostly used as a walking path.

I came across this stream that as you can see was crystal clear. I only wished I didn't have such bright light from the sky to compete with. Still I like the way it turned out with all the rocks in the stream looking like a path through the forest.

Glad I got a photo of this Jackdaw but It's a shame the branch is covering part of the body.

Sarah pointed out this view. We passed by this vantage point on the way west that day, so when we returned east, she asked me to photograph this portion of the river. I wish that I could have captured a train on the bridge, but that would almost ruin the view.

Although it is nearly identical to the next image, they are a tad bit different due to moving 65 mph down a highway. Still, I love them both as it was a gorgeous morning.

This is Lake Pukaki, NZ. Found this spot along the side of the road on our way to Mount Cook which is hiding somewhere behind the cloud in the background to the right. Out of everywhere that I visited (not only in New Zealand but places I have traveled to so far) I would say that this was the most amazing and beautiful place I have seen. The photo really does'nt do this amazing place justice.

The water was crystal clear but I wasn’t at all sure what I was seeing.

Apparently this is a Banded Water Snake, and it is perhaps eating a frog…. I really don’t know, but I am very grateful that it is unusual to encounter this slithering off the dam into the water. I guarantee if it had come my way, I would have remembered how to run.
