On a walk around Mona Vale with a Flickr freind May 2019 Christchurch New Zealand.
Mona Vale, with its homestead formerly known as Karewa, is a public park of 4 ha in the Christchurch suburb of Fendalton. The homestead and gate house are both listed as heritage buildings with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT). The fernery and the rose garden, and pavilion with the setting of the park along the Avon River, add to the attractiveness of the property. It is one of the major tourist attractions of Christchurch.
The land initially belonged to the Deans brothers, whose homestead is Riccarton House in Riccarton. William Derisley Wood leased the land and built what became known as Wood's Mill. The weir in the Avon River was built in the 19th century and forms the Mona Vale mill pond, which still exists today.
Frederick Waymouth and his wife Alice purchased four acres of land and had a homestead built in 1899–1900, designed by architect Joseph Clarkson
Maddison.Waymouth, who called the homestead Karewa, was the Managing Director of Canterbury Frozen Meats. Maddison was a well-known Christchurch architect, who amongst other buildings designed the freezing works in the Christchurch suburb of Belfast. It is thought that this connection between Waymouth and Maddison led to this commission.
The Mona Vale gate house in 2007
Waymouth sold the property to Annie Quayle Townend in 1905, who renamed it to Mona Vale after her mother's house in Tasmania. She was the daughter of a wealthy Canterbury run-holder, George Moore of Glenmark Station. She was his only surviving daughter and he had bequeathed her one million pounds, apparently making her New Zealand's richest woman at the time. Townend added nine acres of land to the property and had a gate house built just off Fendalton Road. After the New Zealand International Exhibition, held in Hagley Park, finished in 1907, she purchased the exhibitions fernery including its plants and had it reassembled at Mona Vale. The present collection of ferns were supplied by Landcare Research in Lincoln, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and the private collection of the late Arthur Ericson. Townend also added the bathhouse to the property. She died in 1914.
The property was sold in 1962 to the Church of the Latter Day Saints. When the church intended to subdivide the property and to demolish the homestead, a public outcry resulted in community fund-raising. The Christchurch City Council and the Riccarton Borough Council bought Mona Vale in June 1969 for the purpose of turning it into a public park. The purchase of Mona Vale is credited to Christchurch mayor Ron Guthrey.
Until the 2010 Canterbury earthquake, the homestead was operated as a restaurant, café and function centre, often used for weddings. The building is currently closed due to earthquake damage.
"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #37 - Glass" "Go For Bokeh Tuesday"
This little set was a wedding present. I used to use it a lot once. Just makes nice bokeh these days. Sitting on a glass table which is reflecting the sky.

Photography for me, or shooting in particular, makes me slow down, and really look at the world. It makes me realise there are infinite moments in our life that can become 'priceless', and every single one of those is precious
was thinking of selling my Leica DLux-4 because i have not used it in ages! then i remembered how good it is in taking macro shots. tried it again and this made me decide to keep it....

Koh Racha Yai also known as Raya island is a small island off the south coast of Phuket. Known for it's crystal clear blue waters and almost exclusive paradise for divers for years. Koh Racha Yai with its white sand beaches can be reached by speedboats from Phuket. Racha Yai is one of the nicest islands to simply get away from everything and relax. Water clarity and visibility is some of the best in Phuket. The water has a turquoise color and has a lot of marine life. The depths range from a few meters and deeper. The water is warm and inviting. Most snorkeling is done from speedboats. Once at Racha Yai your feet become your carriage. The island has a small network of dirt paths that link all of the beaches and resorts. You can easily walk from Ter Bay to Siam Beach and back again. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the beaches on the other side of the island. Walking around some of the island's pathways you will be treated to views of wonderful coconut groves and the occasional water buffalo grazing nearby. Large reptiles are by no means new to Koh Racha, there have been large Asian water monitors here for years. There are no snakes on the island cause Monitor Lizards are eating snakes. These male can be up to 3 meters long.
The island of Racha is about 20 kilometers south of Phuket. The Asian water monitors living for years on the island. More than eighty percent of the island is still dense jungle. The male can be up to 3 meters long. This makes it one of the largest lizard species in the world. The Asain water monitor is a carnivore and not very fussy about its prey. The most common prey of theAsian water monitor are birds, eggs, small mammals such as rats and mice, fish, lizards, frogs, snakes and turtles. An dragon can stay under water for up to 30 minutes when hunting in the water.
I was very impressed by this nice boat in this clear water...

Lipe island is blessed with some of the best waters in Southern Thailand, perhaps only beaten by Tachai or Similan. Thankfully it is still rather undeveloped, although it has started to take on a 'Phi Phi' island feel along the walking street. If this isn't your thing, you can easily take a taxi boat over to Koh Adang and camp out in the National Park. Tarutao island is also another fantastic option to really get away from the banana pancake trail whilst still sticking to a limited budget.
Nok Air and Air Asia both do all in one tickets that fly from Bangkok to the South and include bus/ferry transfer for a reasonable rate - if you're looking for that crystal clear tropical clear water, Lipe is the place to go!

Fall is the best time to visit Jiuzhaigou, one of the most popular national parks in China. The crips, fresh air and crystal-clear azure waters are amazing, not what people usually associate with China these days.
... a small trickle, runlet, runnel, rill, rivulet (wunderful words which let you hear the beautiful sound of fresh water gurgle-burble ... ) in a valley at a spring morning with sunshine, blue sky dappled with some white clouds ...
