Went to the Red Bull Soapbox race this weekend in Downtown LA. It was pretty cool, though it was way too crowded and hard to get anywhere good to take pictures. I started out by climing a tree, which left me extremely dirty and cut up. Eventually made my way up the course near one of the jumps where I snapped this guy.
Pretty cool, but I think next year it'd definitely be more fun to compete in than to watch.
The wind was coming from the East, so all the planes were landing from over the water at YVR. As the sun sank, the long-threatened clouds began to arrive.
You can just make out the more distant plane heading further South - perhaps for Bellingham.

It started snowing during my last couple days in Denali. We saw this bear early in the morning digging up roots. He was fun to watch since he kept standing up on his hind legs. Despite his antics, I actually liked this pose the best since it seems to convey the coming of winter. Since I shot this before sunrise, I had to use ISO2000 to get fast enough shutter speeds. Slight over-exposure helped to keep noise at acceptable levels.
My work for Saturday was to ride the Rage roller coaster in Southend on Sea in Essex five times. It goes up vertically and comes down at a slight inversion on vertical. Whoosh!

Part of my final project for my first BFA photography course at Arizona State University. My project, called Coming & Going, includes three elements. First, using the photographic version of a pentimento (in this case, double exposures). Second, paying homage to one of Thomas Struth's first exhibits, which featured photos of streets in New York City and his hometown of Dusseldorf (in my case, New York City and Des Moines). Finally, based on a project proposed by Alec Soth, combine a photograph with some basic descriptive text, and then consider whether it's better with or without the words.
