Lincoln Christmas Market 2014
Lincoln brought the first traditional German Christmas market to the UK as part of its friendship and twinning with the town of Neustadt in Germany. The market grows annually, constantly adding new attractions to excite the senses of visitors from near and far.
From its beginnings in 1982 with just 11 stalls in Castle Square, the market now takes over most of the cultural quarter of the city, with well over 250 stalls.

This Christmas advent calendar is great for kids and children at heart. each little box can hold a tiny gift or small sweet so that you can count down the days until Christmas! I can also make advent or countdown calendars for other holidays or events.

I remember this Christmas Manger (or a similar one) being displayed at the eastern end of the arches under the remains of the burnt out shell of Preston Town Hall.

Another Christmas passion - Nativity sets. Here's my story on that: I found the cardboard "stable" at a flea market for $1.00 about 15 years ago. It was exactly like the one I had as a child. There was no holy family, just the stable, so of course, I needed one. I began to scour 2nd hand stores and antique shops, looking all over for one. I could never find one with the baby, Jesus. I was very disappointed. One day, Bill came into the kitchen from the garage holding a surprise in his hand. It was the baby Jesus laying in a cardboard manger! All the years of my searching, and I didn't know that we had a full set of chalkware figures packed away in the garage! They had belonged to Bill's Aunt Anne! Story sound familiar - it's under the photo shown below!

These so-called Christmas pyramids have been made in the Erzgebirge for hundreds of years. Whereas Christmas balls traditionally have been made in the Thuringian Forest for such a long time too, all wooden Christmas products were invented - and produced - in the Erzgebirge mountains.

The Christmas song is an East-German relic, non-religious, but so nice, and many, many people in East Germany liked this song - and will never forget it.
I like this song, and others, as they give a grand Christmas feeling, and if you asked my children, who grew up with the record of all these songs, they will agree.

A huge crowd turned out for the switching on of Limerick Christmas Lights on Bedford Row in the city.
Christmas was magically unwrapped in Limerick with the most enchanting ever switching on of the city’s festive lights to a captivated crowd in the city centre.
Children and parents from across the city, neighbouring counties and even up the West coast and Dublin watched on in wonder at the unfolding launch of the ‘Christmas in Limerick’ spectacular.
The show capped a year of stunning theatre and performance across Limerick and was put on by Big House Productions, who were also project directors of the biggest street carnival in Ireland this year – the September hosting of the Royal de Luxe extravaganza that attracted 250,000 people to Limerick to see the 25ft tall Granny in the high point of celebrations for its National City of Culture status.
The thousands who turned up today expecting more of the same were not disappointed as among the highlights of the 45 minute performance was the opening of a Christmas Card to the people of the city and county from Limerick’s favourite Granny herself.
