Tough times call for tough measures! Due to the tanking economy, I decided to severely cut back on Christmas gifts this year. In order to soften the blow a bit, I made this gift tag and attached it to everyone's presents.
Santa was drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet, as well as the sketchy green oval. Everything was then imported into InDesign, where the text and the outer tag shape were added. Then I printed a bunch on card stock, cut them out with an X-Acto and punched a hole in the side.

Twelfth Night has passed, the decorations are down, the cards sorted for recycling and the wreath consigned to the dustbin, once all recyclable bits were removed. There are cardboard boxes to be thrown out, once I've flattened them for the recycling chaps and polystyrene packaging that I can only put in the bin.
The badgers had the turkey carcase and the birds had lots of crumbs.
I keep finding things, like the small Christmas cake we were given, which nobody could face on Christmas Day, the exotic vegetable crisps that got shoved to the back of a cupboard, the nuts, the satsumas that were so sharp they made my toes curl and nobody else wanted to risk it.
There are the boxes to put up in the loft, with unused wrapping paper and ribbon and all the decorations.
There are the bottles of drinks that were ignored in favour of sparkling water and juice and the twinkly bits from the decorations that got all over the floor while it was all being taken down and won't be vacuumed up until everything is away later today.
There is that faint air of finality around the house, now all the festivity has gone for another year, and the baubles and holly, the ribbons and lights, the warm glow from the Christmas tree have all gone and we are getting back to our less chaotic and wonderfully normal state.
There is the knowledge that when I go into work the staff room table will still be groaning with donated food, from colleagues' Christmases - all hanging around far longer than food usually does on that table, but then half the staff are now on diets so unusually it may all last more than a couple of days.
And there is the sense of peace, knowing it all seemed to go okay, and that there were no family disagreements or awkward moments.
And now there's a whole year to prepare for the next one.
Can't wait.
I bought this fireplace last year in a set of toys. The original color was violet, an improper color for it.
I painted it in 2 stage:
1. the part that looks like the brick and stone in the first place , wit a combination of red, orange and brow.
2. the "wooden" parts in white, the brown was to dark.

Niqui has been making things for christmas this year. The house is getting rather full of the stuff she's made!!

I finally did our Christmas card for 2009. What a nightmare. Three tired children that did not want to cooperate and trying to get strobes to not overpower the lights on the tree.

The Christmas lights on the Pimlico Plumbers building in Sail Street, Lambeth North. Probably quite a sight when Illuminated.
The name of the firm possibly comes from the fact that the 1949 film Passport to Pimlico was filmed in the area.

Christmas is a time for worship, family reunions, holidays and good cheer..............but not for all.
Silly composite picture for our family Christmas card this year. We are trying to do a theme each year, last year was the 80's bright colors and shiny cloths, this year is the 70's browns, dull and dark. Would love to know what you think!
