T'was the nightmare before christmas, and all round the house,
Corpses were rotting, and buring to ash,
Heads were hung from nooses up high,
Oh, what a horrible and cruel way to die.
The children were lying so still in their beds,
With vision of murder and death in their heads
Mama, she lay their all lifeless and limp,
Her face all drained, was the killer her pimp?
All of sudden, there was a loud noise,
And out came screaming, a group of young boys,
A figure with an axe followed close behind,
I closed my eyes and shut down my mind.
I slowly pushed open a blood covered door,
And when i looked in, there was more on the floor,
What is this nightmare i am living in?
I always dread the day christmas begins.
I hope this didn't give you too much of a fright,
Now all I'll say is
"Merry Christmas to all, and too all, Good Night" ;)

Barney's EXTREMELY excited about Christmas this year (I'm not joking - the dog's gone mad!)... The last few days, he's been racing round the house like a nutter, leaping up and down at the light shades, squeaking and wailing at me at regular intervals, "helping" with present wrapping by ripping up bubble-wrap and envelopes left on the floor, accidentally-on-purpose getting attacked by sellotape, pestering the cats and just generally being a bit naughty ;) Luckily, he's awfully cute so is instantly forgiven any naughtiness and even has a couple of presents for tomorrow (shh... don't tell him that!), which I may rap up, seeing as he LOVES destroying wrapping paper so much!
I think a lot of the excitement from Barney is just borrowed excitement from my two younger cousins. (Yes, we'll blame my cousins!) We're staying at my auntie's house at the moment and of course, my cousins (9 and 12) are madly excited by the whole thing, which Barney's picked up on and has turned him wild! We're also being joined by my granny later, who'll be spending the next couple of days here too, which will probably add to the craziness as Barney loves visitors and (since his visit to the old-people's home earlier in the year) he simply adores old ladies!! Yes, with one thing and another it looks like it might be a bit of a hectic Christmas in here this year :)
My cousins will no doubt be up at 3am and wanting to unwrap presents, granny will be tripping over the 16 year old blind and deaf senile cat who likes to sit at the bottom of the stairs, the other cat will probably try and steal the Christmas dinner (she does that sort of thing!) while my aunt has her back turned and Barney will just be running around, tripping everyone up, squealing and ripping up wrapping paper... Haha, I think Pippin (my hamster) and Clementine and Charlie (my cousin's baby mice) have the right idea - sleep all day and wake up when the madness is over! No, not really, I always love the chaos of Christmas - and I've been especially looking forward to THIS Christmas pretty much all autumn - on the basis that my nasty treatments would be over by then, so hectic or not, I'm pleased it's here :)
Anyway, I just wanted to say Happy Christmas to everyone, from me and Barney!! We hope that you all have a wonderful day tomorrow and that Santa brings you all the presents you could wish for!
Hehe - look who is The Daily Puppy's featured grown-up doggie of the day for Christmas Day 2011: Barney!

Christmas decorations give me chance to play with my camera.
Like these deliberately out of focus pictures of the lights reflecting in a bauble on the tree.
Seems I have a little dust either on my lens or the sensor. The sort of thing that only shows up when you're wildly out of focus like this. But I think it adds to the character in this case.
Christmas is a time for worship, family reunions, holidays and good cheer..............but not for all.

Christmas Memories
Christmas comes gradually to our house - gradually and somewhat gently.
Of course, it wasn't always like that. When I was a child, Christmas arrived suddenly! It came on Christmas morning when we got out of bed and, opening the living room door, found that the room had been magically transformed by a fully decorated tree.
Santa always left our stockings at the foot of our beds. I still recall waking up and wiggling my toes to see if the stocking was there - and the joy and wonderment of finding it and realizing who had put it there! When you moved it with your foot it made a special sound that cannot be compared to anything else.
But it all happened on that one day - which made the whole experience that much more exciting! Mind you, there were still events that led up to Christmas - advertising on radio and TV still encouraged us to get our shopping done early and there was still the Santa Claus parade. More important than the parade was the opening of "Toyland." Yes, my friends, I remember when there were no malls, the stores were on one or two streets downtown and did not keep a full selection of toys all year long. “Toyland” meant that Christmas was really coming!
But in spite of this limited hype, things didn't start to get serious until the party on the last day of school. After school had ended I would get money from Mom - perhaps as much as two or three dollars - to go downtown and buy something special for my grandmother. It was usually a "knick-knack" to go on her mantle. Dogs, cats and other cute animals were very popular with me and, as a result, Grandmother's mantle resembled a menagerie. I am sure that many a saleslady was silently screaming at how much time it took me to choose “just the right piece.”
On Christmas Eve morning my sister and I would take the bus to Grandmother's house to get a pair of her stockings. She wore those special "old lady" stockings that were perfect for hanging up. Nylons just didn't seem to work! We would phone her in the morning. "Nanny, do you have any of your stockings you could let us borrow?"
The answer was always “yes” - for all her many grandchildren. I'm surprised that Christmas Day found her with any stockings left to wear.
The bus ride to her house was also special. People seemed to act differently because it was Christmas Eve. People smiled more and we heard those magic words - Merry Christmas! - often.
Over the years our habits have changed. Christmas doesn’t arrive as suddenly as when I was a child. I couldn’t possibly do what my parents did on Christmas Eve. But we are still a family that decorates the tree just before Christmas – as opposed to just before Remembrance Day - and I am, purposely, one of the last on my street to decorate the outside of my house. But mid November finds us at the tree farm picking out our tree and around the end of November we start to see hints of Christmas. The ornate wall hanging suddenly shows up. Then, a bit later, the everyday mugs disappear and are replaced by the Christmas mugs. By Advent Sunday, the ceramic Christmas tree will have appeared. And a bit later, my well-thumbed copy of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” can be heard calling out to me. But the tree - in all its glorious and majestic splendor - is still left until almost Christmas. On the other hand, our decorations stay up and the outside lights remain on until January 6 - Twelfth Night.
Bringing out the Christmas decorations is always special. Seeing that particular favorite ornament is like welcoming back an old friend. Seeing the boys’ special ornaments always brings back memories of Christmases past. And even trying to figure out how strings of lights could possibly have twisted themselves that much while sitting for eleven months in a motionless box, is more or less tolerable!
Yes, we are still caught up in the rush of Christmas shopping and the dash to make sure that we have those last minute things which, in spite of having celebrated many Christmases, always seem to get forgotten.
But even so, our Christmas seems to come gradually and gently. Perhaps that fits with how the baby Jesus arrived.
May your Christmas be joyous and gentle.
