Merry Christmas, everyone! This was taken earlier today (Christmas Eve) in the Land Between the Lakes State Park, Kentucky. She was eating a fish there on the limb of the tree.
Amazing what a mix of lights and glass can do.

Merry Christmas to all my Flickr friends hope you all have a fantastic festive time.
This is the tree from a couple of years ago at the Trafford Centre deliberately shot out of focus. Tweaked slightly for Slider's Sunday.
In absence of a Das Tungsten to snuggle with, winter nights are made for warm fires and large books.

Taken last year in the Nottingham arcade behind 'slab square'.
Nottingham always puts on a better Christmas show than Derby, my hometown.
I'm a tad embarrassed that Derby's civic tree, although satisfyingly tall, is decorated with a string of lights that look as though they came second-hand from the end of a run-down pier.
Neighbouring Stafford, a smaller town than Derby, has a well decorated tree too, it's a stunner
I may just post a pic to illustrate later during the holiday.
Merry Christmas! (or happy Holidays if that's not your thing!)

PCA 135 - Night Lights
Dec 12 - Dec 26, 2010 (2 weeks)
Image Tag: pca135
Assignment:
For a large part of the world's population this is the dark time of year. in fact the shortest day of the northern hemisphere is just days away. For this assignment you are to embrace the night and the lights that you find. Capture the color and drama that artificial lighting often brings to our evenings. This assignment should present opportunities for experimentation with longer exposures, metering techniques, creative bokeh, and using a tripod. For those enjoying the longer and warmer days in the southern hemisphere, we hope you stay up late and capture your night lights.

Well, I haven't done much light painting but I was thinking about submitting for the PCA and the assignment and wanted to maybe get some good Christmas light bokeh or something, then this idea hit me - I was going to try a few more, but ran out of time (and its cold out!). This is harder than it looks (probably because I don't have practice at it) but you have to keep the light pointed at the camera at all times and figure the right aperture to make it all clear. I was trying to echo the big pine in the background with my tree in the foreground , I also tried to encircle a small seedling to get a stem for my tree (this was not as successful as I had hoped). Anyway, I'm still getting back into the swing of things so the PCA is good way to do that and focus on trying something weekly.
Doh, with mags_Tags's question I realized I didn't specify that I used an LED flashlight for the actual painting... My wife uses the Oval Light to walk the dog.
This is Victoria Street, Edinburgh. I had originally intended this to be a colour shot but the decorations are white and the buidlings didn't give much contrast in the low light.
I was on the safe side of the railing with my camera on a tripod over the railing.
Part of the Christmas day dinner table centerpiece decoration that Caroline put together. Every year she creates a new tableau for us to enjoy as we gather around the table. This year she utilized several holiday themed snow globes accumulated over the years that took us down a fun memory filled lane.
A gorgeous Christmas decoration in a shop window in Guingamp last year, while I was in the Convalescent Home.
*** I have since retaken yesterday's photo and am far happier with the result. (Which wouldn't be difficult !!) ***
Better viewed large, and thank you for your favourites. :)
Merry Christmas to my Flickr friends !
The small and enchanting cobbled streets of Tallinn are brought to life during the winter period with a light dusting of snow on rooftops and pavements.
On the north-eastern edge of the Baltic Sea, Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe, and as such the old town area is included in Unesco's world heritage list. The aura of the 14th and 15th centuries survives intact in Tallinn's old town, through its jumble of medieval walls and turrets, needling spires and winding cobbled streets. The city can be easily explored on foot, which is the best way to see the historic old town and absorb the atmosphere and bright activity of its bustling squares.
Like other Baltic capitals, Tallinn's main square is the center of celebrations for New Year's Eve. Private parties, concerts, and balls are hosted by restaurants, hotels, clubs, and other venues to ring in the new year. If you plan to stick out the evening in Tallinn's squares, dress warmly - the Estonian capital is cold in December!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays...
For all my friends. For some of you St. Nicholas has already come, for some he is on his way and for others there is a little time to wait yet, but for all of you - wherever you are - this is my small gift for you. It comes with love, thanks, best wishes and hope for happiness and an even better year to come. Merry Christmas!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant?
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant?
Not only in the summertime,
But even in winter is thy prime.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant?
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
For every year the Christmas tree,
Brings to us all both joy and glee.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
Each bough doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

Merry Christmas to all my friends and followers on Flickr, and all the best for 2022. I for one certainly 'hope' to get out a bit more next year, 2021 has been another tricky one, and I probably only need 2 hands (and maybe one of my feet) to count my visits to the lineside, and even the buses have dried up again. We shall see what next year brings, and hopefully I may bump into some old faces again soon. But for now, time to put my feet up and enjoy a few beers!
Take care everyone.

Jarrolds department store in Norwich is a one of the nicest lit up buildings at Christmas time. It has been a part of Norwich since 1823 and is one of the city's landmarks.
I took this picture after me and my partner had finished doing our Christmas shopping for our family's. It is a five stop HDR with the usual tonemapping in photomatrix and the tidying up in Photoshop.
