I am not afraid of the darkness or the night. I'm afraid of the silence - where there is nothing to hide me from my own screaming thoughts...

"Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos."

~Steven Sondheim

Head, close up of endless debate on chaos

This was the year that a giant earthquake hit Nepal. The people of Manaslu all suffered great losses in this chaos.

Chaos & Beauty

A misty woodland on the shores of Castle Loch, one of the three lochs that make up the village of Lochmaben. These are the conditions I love the most, and when combined with trees I am a very happy photographer.

Sometimes there is just too much circling around in my brain. I can't sort through it.

I decided to head to Malibu, CA a few weeks ago to take some pictures at El Matador Beach. I always heard it was beautiful...and wow, it was.

I was there during a period of rain and there were high surf advisories all over southern California. Waves were pounding the cliff walls when I got there and conditions looked awesome to produce something unique. There was also ocean 'foam' all over, it didn't smell good. I threw on some neoprene socks and jumped right into the water. I shot for about 1-2 hours and got soaked. I got treated to an awesome sunset and had a blast though. It kind of went like this - sprint over here to try and get shot, get shot, cover camera with anything available to shelter it from oncoming wave, get soaked by wave, repeat.

Thanks for taking a look!

Love the perpetual festive spirit of this roundabout, the iconic Piccadilly Circus is always a merry-go-round :)

I love that the flowers on this hoya grow in spherical clusters.

Sometimes photos are deceiving because its our job as photographers to simplify the chaos and make "Art" out of it. However, the reality is the place itself could be very chaotic and the "order" that we created/presented could be a combination of many techniques. Like we might position our camera in a way to hide certain part of the messiness, or in post-processing cloning out some distractions etc.

Ok, back to this image - this was my first attempt this year to St.Helens trying to capture its beauty after a long winter here in Washington state. It was a calm night however followed by an unexpectedly harsh morning. It was crazy windy and snowflakes were blown around like knifes on my face. I set up my tent not far from this location, and had to rush back because I knew my 3-season tent wouldn't last long in this environment. Indeed it crashed when I went back.

This image was a quick capture of that morning, where I tried my best to embrace the cold, and still kept walking around trying to find some sort of order among all the chaos. I ended up focusing on these logs buried in snow which leads to the mountain. I quite like this image because of the side light lighting up the snow and logs.

A second attempt at a splash shot after this one which I was pretty happy with. Who knows, maybe I'll do a small series of these... a.k.a. use them for my 365 when I don't have any other ideas.

The ruins of the old mining harbour located in the Piscinas beach (Sardinia, Italy) are hit and slowly disgregated by endless waves. Nothing is forever.

Liquid Chaos unleashes a tempest of color and motion—a torrent of fractured forms and dynamic swells that seem to vibrate off the canvas. This abstract composition fuses aggression with rhythm, as rivers of molten orange, obsidian black, and blinding white intertwine in a state of beautiful disorder.

The piece evokes a collision between natural forces and emotional turbulence—part wildfire, part symphony. Amid the chaos, there is a sense of choreography: each swirl and fracture follows an unspoken logic, as if the artist has translated an invisible energy into form.

Scott’s work challenges the viewer to find structure within rupture and harmony within discord. Liquid Chaos doesn’t just depict movement—it embodies it.

Doch was ist Ordnung?

My thanks are due to Frances Sutton from Edinburgh Science Festival, Esme Haigh from National Museum of Scotland and Janis Claxton.

These past couple of weeks I have been through a lot of back and forth. With decisions in my mind. Thinking I was quitting one thing and then throwing myself back into it. Feeling unsure of myself and my thoughts. I feel like I put my mind through the wringer. Taking mental health days and getting upset stomachs due to stress. My body feeling like shit. Not sure what I am supposed to do with my hands!?!?!?

This is what chaos looks like to me in my mind. How I am feeling when all over the place. I can't even explain this photo. Can you?

Plenty of these Rainbow Lorikeets creating chaos.
