Inhabited Body
Body on a horizon of water,
body open
to the slow intoxication of fingers,
body defended
by the splendour of apples,
surrendered hill by hill,
body lovingly made moist
by the tongue’s pliant sun.
Body with the taste of cropped grass
in a secret garden,
body where I am at home,
body where I lie down
to suck up silence,
to hear
the murmur of blades of grain,
to breathe
the deep dark sweetness of the bramble bush.
Body of a thousand mouths,
all tawny with joy,
all ready to sip,
ready to bite till a scream
bursts from the bowels
and mounts to the towers
and pleads for a dagger.
Body for surrendering to tears.
Body ripe for death.
Body for imbibing to the end –
my ocean, brief
and white,

The Tambul people, are an indigenous group residing in the Tambul-Nebilyer District of the Western Highlands Province characterized by its rugged terrain, high mountains, and fertile valleys.
They have a rich and unique culture known for their traditional customs, rituals, and art forms. Like many other indigenous groups in Papua New Guinea, they have a strong connection to the land and their environment.
Body decoration is especially prominent during ceremonial occasions and rituals. Important events such as initiations, weddings, funerals, and other cultural celebrations are times when individuals may adorn themselves with elaborate body paint and decorations.
In addition to pigments, Tambul people may use natural materials like feathers, shells, leaves, and flowers to adorn their bodies. These materials are often woven into intricate headdresses, necklaces, bracelets, and anklets.

A breathtaking view over the Colne Valley towards Huddersfield taken from Stubbin Road, Marsden in September 1962.
An unidentified Huddersfield CT trolleybus heads out along the A62 Manchester Road towards Lingard's Wood and onto Huddersfield. The red brick chimney of Marsden UDC's sewage works dominates the middle ground. The body of water in the lower backdrop is the Sparth canal storage reservoir at Cellars Clough.
This route would close to trolleybus operations in the snowy January of 1963. The phased closure of Huddersfield trolleybus system would see the final trolleybus run into depot on 13th July 1968.
