Block statue of Ankhrenepnefer
The owner was 'great commissioner of the palace' for Osorkon II, whose cartouches with birth and throne names appear on the upper arms. The shrine he presents contains a figure of Atum, the creator god of Heliopolis. The statue stood in a temple of Atum in Tell el-Maskhuta, on the eastern edge of the Nile Delta.
The scarab on the head is an image of Khepri, the morning sun, who had the power of endless rebirth. Khepri was closely identified with Atum, because both gods were supposedly self-created: Khepri at every sunrise, and Atum at the beginning of time.
The Heliopolitan gods Ra-Horakhty, Shu and Tefnut appear in relief on the owner's left side, the Theban triad of Amun-Ra, Mut and Khonsu on his right. Shu and his consort Tefnut, who represented air and moisture, were the first gods Atum created.

Granite Blocks
Reclaimed bridge and foundation blocks reclaimed from old New England bridge abutments and now defunct foundations in and around the Boston area.
Appearance:
Most of the block material we reclaim originates from the quarries of Cape Ann, MA. Quincy granite is also evident especially in some of the Boston block we reclaimed. Much of this material was quarried in the late 1800’s – early 1900’s. These blocks have a century of aging and weathering. Some in the water, some out… for a real antique look!
Size:
• Always depends on our current bridge reclamation project.
• As for our foundation block inventory – it’s almost always dimensional material and multi sized
• Call for current sizes and availability
Use:
• Retaining wall/seawall block material
• Bench pieces
• Columns for entryways and gates
• Light posts
• Vertical pieces for archways
Sold:
By the pieces, the linear foot and by the ton.

A fine example of this kind of statue, which provided a large surface area for inscriptions.

As you may imagine, the restaurant on the left was quite a pain to build!

July is my month for TwitterBee. I'm a little behind on putting together an inspiration post and fabrics but I'm thinking my theme will be star blocks featuring the new Heather Ross Far Far Away II fabric.
On Saturday, July 8, 2017, the FDNY celebrated its first summer Block Party at Station 52 in Queens.
For her blocks in Bee Unique Bee Knotty Deanna sent out some pretty earth-toned fabrics and asked for almost any 12.5" non-wonky block. She indicated that the black print was her inspiration/focus fabric.
This block is "Happy-Go-Lucky" from "Quiltmake's 100 Blocks Volume 3." It uses three different techniques -- paper piecing (for the four corner triangles with the brown star points,) templates (for the units containing the points of the centre star,) and then regular piecing. This is actually the first time I've ever used templates -- I was hard to maintain perfect accuracy after tracing the template to freezer paper and then cutting around it out of the fabric. I think that it turned out okay, though.

All 30 of my Kaleidoscope blocks are finished! Half of them look like this! I was really pleased at at how well the points matched, good enough for me anyway! I was also really pleased at how flat these blocks were, I was worried! All I have to do is sew them together now! I can't wait to see what the finished layout will look like!

Melbourne's impressive Block Arcade was constructed in 1891 and is as much a popular shopping precinct today as when it was built. The architecture is stunning.
