Gassl Apresski - William T and the Black 50's
Hopefully, these shorebirds will be returning to the area soon, because I'm ready for warmer weather! (view large)
it occurred to me recently that every single gadget/tool i've bought in the past year is made of black metal:
Benchmade Nimravus Tanto* -
my new favorite knife. D2 tool steel, partially serrated blade, ergonomic design, great balance, low profile.
CountyComm Embassy Pen -
a solid tube of aluminum, hollowed out to fit a Fisher Space Pen cartridge. knurling on the body and grip of the pen, screwtop with a springy yet sturdy clip. best pen ever.
*UPDATE* not so best anymore, ever since i discovered the Tuff-Writer
4Sevens Quark AA² Tactical flashlight -
runs on AA batteries, waterproof, anodized aluminum, goes from .2(!) lumens to 205(!!!) lumens with a quarter-twist of the head. programmable, with 5 other output modes to choose from. perfect for anything.
Casio G-Shock Cockpit Series -
best timepiece i've ever owned. analog and digital, dual timezones, 4 alarms, stopwatch, timer. waterproof and shockproof. ion-plated stainless steel.
Fisher 'Bullet' Space Pen -
the pen i bought that got me hooked on the Fisher ink cartridge. and then i realized the only good thing about them is the cartridge. the pen itself seems to be made of brass.
LaCie Rikiki external hard drive (500GB) -
all of my external hard drives are LaCie and none of them has ever... well let's just say i'm very satisfied with their component choices, enclosure designs, and QC. in this case Samsung, aluminum, and Pass.
oh, and this. which, while technically Death Metal rather than Black Metal, is still pretty f--king badass. and besides, George is wearing a Dethklok t-shirt. it's like a twofer of brutality, just in time for halloween.
and you're welcome.
*note - everything pictured here is EDC, with the exception of the Nimravus - don't want my friends in law enforcement to think i walk around the City with something like that tucked into my boot.
This amazing One-of-a-Kind (OOAK) bead-embroidered necklace was created around these beautiful Labradorite cabochons. The cabochon are encircled by rows of Japanese cubes, Japanese and Czech seed, Japanese triangles, Czech fire polished glass and Czech druks in different finishes, some matte, some shiny but all in black. The bead-embroidered centrepiece is embellished with a wonderfully rich thick fringe and is attached to alternating matte black onyx coin beads and smaller bead embroidered ovals. The back of the bead-embroidered elements is lined with black ultrasuede.
The neckalce measures c. 26” (66 cm) and therefore slips over one’s head without the need of a clasp. The centrepiece measures 4 ¼” (11 cm) in width and 7” (18 cm) in length down to the longest part of the fringe. This piece is a large piece and when worn the centrepiece hangs in between the breasts.
When he caught a male fish he ate the meat, but when he caught a female fish just the eggs where eaten.
Ursus americanus vancouveri
I was super jazzed to find this awesome spider yesterday! This is a black purseweb spider, a species that spends most of its time underground. In fact, the females almost exclusively live underground, and it took over 100 years for scientists to find and describe a female of this species after a male was found in the early 1800s.
Stilts have extremely long pink legs and a long straight delicate bill. They nest commonly on mainland Europe, but are only visit Britain very rarely and have bred successfully on just four occasions. At 23 cm, a black-winged stilt's legs represent 60% of the birds height, which means it can feed in deeper water than other waders.
Stilts are a close relative of the avocet. This shot was taken in Majorca last year.

One of Big Momma's two cubs. The last photo of this series, I had forgotten that I even had it until I started processing my backlog of RAW's. It's not as sharp as I'd like it to be, but the facial expression is priceless :-)

A few weeks ago the very large black polar along the Chesterfield canal by our house was cut down. I put some of the twigs in a vase of water. It has broken a few buds.
(Rynchops niger)
A juvenile skimmer practicing his skills at the lagoon on the north beach area of Fort Desoto. These birds are so fun to photograph and definitely allow for more bird in flight practice!!
