Taken on My recent trip to Sydney. I initially wanted to do a long exposure but it proved to be just impossible with ferries coming and going. So took a few shots before i got what i wanted, this is the final image after processing in LR.
It must have been quiet for a long time, and I must have been real bored when this fella decided to drop in. Normally I don't waste my time even pressing down the shutter button for a BV - but I am kind of glad I did here. Thanks for looking!

Ruddy Marsh Skimmer (Crocothemis servilia)
A medium sized blood red or reddish yellow dragonfly with amber coloured patch at wing base. Abdomen has a mid dorsal black stripe.
I saw him patiently waiting for his girl, watching curiously on every passerby. :)

My Recipe:
4 tbs butter
1 tbs flour
1 large red onion diced
1 medium fennel bulb diced
1/2 red bell pepper diced
5 cloves garlic minced
2 tbsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
1/2 tsp celery seed
1 tsp sea salt
2 tsp ground black pepper
1 c. sherry
1 quart seafood stock
8 oz crushed tomatoes
1 c. heavy cream
1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined
1 pint oysters with liquid
1 cod filet, about 16 oz cut into bite-sized chunks
1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
Melt the butter in a stockpot and stir in flour and cook over medium heat for about four minutes. Add onion, fennel and bell pepper and cook for 7-8 minutes until soft and translucent. Add garlic, pepper flakes, and herbs and spices. Cook another 2 minutes deglazing the pot as necessary with some of the sherry. Add the stock and bring to a boil. Add the tomatoes and continue to cook at a low boil for 10 minutes. Add cream and return to a boil. Add seafood and remaining sherry and cook for another ten minutes. Sprinkle in fresh parsley. Serve hot.

I finally made it out the Sacramento NWR that's been on my bucket list for years. I don't know why it took so long to go out there but I'm glad I did, I got some life birds while out there
Thank you for your visit, comments and favs have a wonderful day!
This was a sweet little black bear looking for wild blueberries. The bear was so small, the only indication you had that it was there was the ferns moving...until it stood up.

A Common Grackle (Female) in my backyard. The colors of the feathers were visible because I used the flash.
This little girl was eating bird food that fell from the bird feeder above. Using remote control on my camera from my iPhone.

One of the main targets for my Easter trip up to Brisbane were these wonderful Glossy-Black Cockatoos. Several birds had been reported & photographed on private property about an hour out of Brisbane, & I was hopeful they would stick around long enough for my visit.
Glossy-Blacks are the smallest of Australia's five black cockatoo species. They have a very specific diet - the seeds of the Casuarina tree, & when they are busy stripping these trees feeding they can be quite approachable. Thankfully, the property they had been seen previously still had some seeding Casuarina trees & we found a family of three feeding on a dreary afternoon. At least the threatening rain held off for the most part & the dark clouds dispersed for a few minutes to allow for a few decent shots.
Special thanks to Matt & Jas of Faunagraphic for their awesome company & huge thanks to Tim Jubb for his assistance in obtaining access to the property! What an amazing afternoon!
A Black Moon describes a period which meets a specific set of astronomical criteria - in this case the third new moon in a series of four.
Last night was the first night this month I could see it clearly, although it started a couple of days ago. The dark part of the moon is lit up by "Earthlight" reflected back from our planet to the moon.
The effect of this moon will cause exceptionally high Spring Tides and possible coastal flooding.
