Have been trying for awhile now to get a decent photo of Kingfisher. The lighting is always difficult when I am there in the morning and these birds rarely come close to shore. They can spot you a mile away and fly off immediately when they see you. So this one is the best so far.
Thank you for visiting my site and taking the time to leave a comment. Truly appreciated!

Its been awhile since I've done any Milky Way photography. In fact this is the first try this year - not that I wouldn't have tried earlier but smoke from the wildfires in Canada and the usual problems of getting clear skies coinciding with no moon have kept me in bed at night.
As usual, this is a composite. The foreground photos (two rows of two put together as a panorama in Lightroom) were taken an hour after sunset. It was actually fairly dark but there was still some light on the horizon. The foreground photo was taken looking west. The illumination on the foreground was due to a street light behind the camera. The sky photos (4 - 1 minute tracked photos taken and stacked in Photoshop to reduce noise) were taken about an hour later a couple miles outside town in a soybean field using an Olympus 17mm f 1.8 shot wide open and looking southeast. The composite was put together in Photoshop with some finishing touches done in Lightroom.
The photos details here on Flickr are for the foreground photos.
stopping for awhile, and click click ! ... please enjoy the view of this farm fields 😊 .
I think these farms are around in Sidomulyo district, South Lampung regency, province of Lampung, Indonesia.

Taken awhile ago on a trip out west. I was going through with some old images to reprocess with the latest version of LR.
Once in awhile I get a notion to pop nature's treasures into a bit of water and place everything in the freezer. Generally I am pleased with the results.
However, when I took a more careful look at this interesting leaf, I discovered I had frozen a small bug as well. I didn't plan on putting that little critter through cryogenics. Oops!
Been awhile since I have be able to capture an action scene
Thank you for viewing, faving or commenting on my images, have a great day! (Affinity Pro for editing)

I think awhile ago I had been looking back through old folders and putting copies into a folder to be able to work on later.
At least that's how I think this one ended up in that folder.
I liked the the shadows.
Happy Wall Wednesday!
On a recent trip to the Santa Maria area, we drove south towards Santa Barbara. I'd never been in this area before and I wanted to explore the area and see if there were any photo opportunities. It was a nice drive, but you don't have very much coastal access because of Vandenberg Air Force Base. Gaviota Beach was the first location we could get to the beach that was close to Highway 101. This is a really nice beach area that didn't have too many people to compete with for a space in the sand. The coastline has some really nice features like the one that you see here. The beach is away from any communities and would be a nice location to leave the city life behind and relax for awhile.
I thought this would be a quick and easy photo to post. But this image you see here is a lot different that what I started with. In the original, the foreground -- the trees and grass, were completely black and the sky was washed out light blue. I worked on it for awhile but wasn't getting results I liked. I gave up and hit the reset button. However I really liked the comp and especially the clouds. So I began again and using some graduated filters, brush adjustments, color adjustments, and the usual contrast tweaks, etc, I ended up with this image. :) (Rooster Rock, Ainsworth, Cascade Locks DSC_5783.jpg)
Been awhile since I was last here, I’ll try and catch up, but life’s been really busy recently.
Thanks for the views and comments..

After our few days in Maesot we moved on to the former capital city of Sukhothai where we stayed in some chalets by a small lake. Watching the wildlife was very relaxing
This is currently the last shot from my office. Now that I work from home full time - who knows when the next time I will be back. Terrific Tuesday to you.
Been awhile since I posted a black and white image....
Clouds gather over Mt. Temple and some other peaks of the Bow Mountain range reflected in Banff's Herbert Lake. Thought it worked well in b/w.
Have a terrific Thursday!
These are Fire Ant mounds with the season's first frost. Fire ants came from Mexico and South America years ago and I think they are in almost all of Texas.
They are very hard to get rid of in your yard. A very small Ant that will swarm all over you and their sting really hurts and will leave sores that last awhile. HFF
Been away for awhile. it seems like I've living at the airport for two weeks dealing with six feet of snow with another 18 inches coming today and tomorrow. I managed to get away for two days for a quick ski trip and capture this photo of Mt. Lafayette in New Hampshire. I'v got some really interesting "airport Blizzard" pictures coming soon,

The Panaewa Rainforest Zoo in Hilo, Hawaii was the perfect place to stretch our legs. Growing a bit weary, we decided to find a bench to plan our next adventures. We didn't quite expect to find an available resting place so soon. However, it did seem sensible to move quickly along a nearby path to the exit.
Another shot that I had been wanting to cross off the list for quite sometime. I was just waiting for a decent train in good lighting; which left me waiting for quite awhile as it is the Aldersyde after all.
Everything finally came together with a pair of standard cabs, a relatively short train that would fit in frame, and a late afternoon departure from Calgary.
It's been awhile since I've done any night time long exposure photography. Decided to head out this morning to do some shots at the wharf in Renforth, New Brunswick.

It has been awhile since I posted a Caturday, so I am posting a Caturday of Lacey doing her sleeping thing.

After spending awhile on the beach watching this peregrine shred its prey, he eventually left. He flew towards us and I got several close fly by frames while I was on my belly. I was surprised with the outcomes.
After many months, if not longer, of no IC SD70 duos on M338, it was nice to finally chase a duo east out of Waterloo again. Thankfully, IC 1000 remained as the EB leader and is seen here taking the sag and curves at Winthrop, one of the few must-do shots on the Dubuque Sub between Waterloo and Dubuque

Another day with the wind blowing, fallen branches and tree debris everywhere,
but this sculpture held after several others had been taken down.
Then, the magic of this place as the sun shines as it so often does in the late afternoon glow that seems to attest to the mind focus and playfulness and affirms "yes, all is good"
Been awhile since I posted a b/w image.....this reminded me of the gloomy, mysterious and dangerous forest of JRR Tolkien in The Hobbit.
Actually it's a scene from the Hoh Rainforest's Hall of Mosses Trail. The color version in comments. Was a most wonderful hike, moody yet awe-inspiring.
Your views, comments, faves and suggestions are always appreciated!
Enjoy this last week of '16!
My daughter and I went on a nature walk through the forest of Phaeng Waterfall Park. These are a few of the things we saw.
Awhile back I noticed this old barn left alone and two cars in behind. When I went there yesterday, one car had been removed. Well I got one of them.
This is it for awhile. Maybe just for awhile, maybe permanently. What is it that I'm contributing exactly? What can I contribute? Am I solely contributing just for the sake of art? If I don't consider my work art, who will? Who should? Maybe I'm being melodramatic, but I'm taking this personally. I don't see it as a flighty concept--it is because it is. No, there's more to it than that. It's different things for different people, which is fine. I just haven't realized what it is, and isn't, for myself, or for my "art".
Thank you, for the brave souls who responded in the previous photo. Don't see this as me telling you others to not answer, I am still curious about your opinions.
Hah, I just realized how feeble this explanation is.
My apologies. Have fun here. And please ignore my cowlicks.
It's been awhile since my last post, and I have been keeping very busy. This time can find me busy at times, and have just had no time to even look at flickr, other than a quick glance. My daughter's many activities seem to be in high gear right now, and I am always on the go. I was lucky to receive these beautiful spring flowers from my sweet hubby, a nice treat to shoot, since I have had little time to shoot anything else. But we were lucky and took a day off yesterday and captured a great sunrise. Will post tommorrow!!
HI!
i've been away awhile. when I tried to scan the last few rolls I shot, everything was out of focus. so, either my eyes have gotten extremely bad (I suppose this is possible) or I need to buy another scanner. I have a cheap scanner (V600) and I've been using it around ten years, so maybe it's time for an upgrade. I've thought about the V850 but haven't decided. it would be a big investment, which is ok...but maybe not the priority at the moment. I hate scanning so it feels a bit painful to pay so much to do something i don't enjoy. :) ..what do you use?
anyway, Conor and I are surviving the summer as best we can. he's had some health concerns and I injured my shoulder, so we're both feeling the effects of age. we recently had an insane heat wave that led us to live in the basement for 3 days (not a healthy environment, no matter how hard I tried to clean it) so we're currently ecstatic just to be above ground.
what else? the world is opening up again and transitioning back to the office has been especially difficult for me, as I'm now used to Conor working at my side and being able to watch over him all day. I had a good flow during the pandemic and now I'm trying to find a new one, and everything feels a bit chaotic in the meantime.
I hope you are all well!
I said I will be off Flickr for awhile, but not entirely... I will go to as many streams as I can...
I'm dedicating most of my time to writing testimonials... I'm way behind in reciprocating to friends that have written me testimonials... Testimonials will take lots of time... I want to write from my heart... not just words...

"The ocean and its rich foreground compose a familiar view. Dusk is my favorite time, sometimes sparked by the gentle green flash as the ocean finally receives the sun. The sky darkened, holding no crescent moon or evening star to make the situation impossibly pictorial. An approaching band of fog suggested that the next day might be one of silver and cool gray. Robinson Jeffers wrote of the "vast shield of the ocean." I do not forget its presence even during those many hours I am in my darkroom or at my desk, both so detached from the direct light of sun or sky. Every so often I emerge, reaffirm the splendor of the world, and then return to the caverns of my particular creativity."
- Ansel Adams
Between personal matters and just not having the time. I love seeing all of your beautiful photos. They really do inspire me. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.
Hello! It's been awhile... awhile since I've been able to take the camera out for a spin and process the shots. I was up in the Tetons two weekends ago to celebrate our anniversary. To top it off, I got to celebrate the sunrise with these guys... I know some of you can hear them now! Nothing like the honk to punctuate a moment with nature... :P
Pretty much every house has one, whether it be a pet or a person! You know who you are......
Better grab a cup of coffee, these credits might take awhile...

This one took awhile. Found an old photo of mine from May 30, 2017. The raindrops were so heavy I actually checked the low temperature for that day to make sure we didn’t have some unusual freeze occur. ( We didn’t.) Anyway, cropped to get a macro and then used Adobe photoshop express flowers effect FL6. Cropped again to make square and finished with a scarlet border.
