This photo was taken awhile ago, but I have never posted it anywhere before. It was a new and interesting encounter with "Bees", so it seemed like a good photo to post!

The Wool Carder Bee was completely new to me when I took this photo. It was introduced to North America from Europe in the 1960s. If you live in North America or Europe, are you familiar with this bee? It is an interesting species.

As part of nest making, the female gathers soft materials from plants that have soft leaves and stems (such as Lamb's Ear plants) and uses this fluff to line her nest, often carding and weaving it into little pockets. That's how this bee gets its common name.

This is a male (at the left) meeting a Bumble Bee at the top of a flower. There had been a brief rain shower, and these bees were wet and unable to fly until their wings dried. This allowed me to get very close and photograph them. There was a brief standoff at the top, which ended when the Wool Carder Bee lifted the legs on its left side, one by one, allowing the Bumble Bee to pass under them and continue down the stem. Both were gone when I checked back later. Likely their wings had dried and off they went. Glad I was able to photograph them!

Its been awhile since I've updated a studio pic. I've been busy spring cleaning and packing shit, accumulated from my endless hoarding of cute stuff from over 15 years ago. Going through all these treasures sure brings back much memories. Its like opening a time machine and this made me think of why I love doing what I do so much. Collecting toys, animation and making colourful candy art is my life. It makes me happy. Very, very happy.

This is a typical evening in the sweet studio where all the magic happens. Of course I added some imaginary friends in there, but its pretty much what goes on in my head. Trippy all the time.

Been awhile since I shared a black and white shot.

The busy skies and first light of the day worked well with a monochrome presentation of some majestic Sawtooths reflected in Little Redfish Lake.

Wrapping up my series soon of my favorite mountains in the Gem State.

Enjoy a wonderful Sunday!

Irix Dragonfly 150mm f/2.8, HDR in Aurora, custom preset Sea Silver

I spent awhile in the wood this morning, exploring some of the bits that I hadn’t previously reached. Newly bare trees reaching for the light caught my eye and gave me the idea of making an image for Remembrance Sunday. I can’t think of anywhere better than a wood to spend time reflecting. It certainly beats two minutes’ silence in Waitrose on Friday.

I can think of words – fragments – that come to mind yet giving them a little structure eludes me.

Standing upright

Dark forms against the morning sky

Fragile limbs, broken

Fragmentation

A memory

It's gonna be the right time

It's gonna be the right one

If only I could silence all this noise

The chaos in my heart

It's killing me to be all alone

Wanna tear down my defenses

Wanna quiver at your touch

Take a ride

You don't even have to mean it

And if you wanna stay the night

I promise I'll keep it secret

Stay awhile

Baby, you won't regret it

Just let it out

Love is a way to say it

I linger in the shadows of my doubt

I've waited here so long

It's killing me to be all alone

I better take down my defenses

Or the moment will be lost

Take a ride

You don't even have to mean it

And if you wanna stay the night

I promise I'll keep it secret

Stay awhile

Baby, you won't regret it

Just let it out

Love is a way to say it

Take a ride

You don't even have to mean it

And if you wanna stay the night

I promise I'll keep it secret

Stay awhile

Been awhile since I posted an image of this massive mountain.

A compressed shot looking NW as the morning light hit this highest peak on the continent.

This impressive mountain was known to the Athabaskan and many other native tribes as Denali (“The High/Tall One”) and to the Russians as Bolshaya Gora (“Great Mountain”). An easy one to name...

"Denali is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet (6,190 m) above sea level. With a topographic prominence of 20,156 feet (6,144 m) and a topographic isolation of 4,629 miles (7,450 km), Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak on Earth, after Mount Everest and Aconcagua." On the Banks of the River Mersey, at New Brighton.... We find this Somewhat rusty Bench, maybe not the most comfortable...

But the views are spectacular... Rest awhile and suddenly life pressures disappear...Perspective is refocused...and Spirit Revived.

For awhile the Covid pandemic eased and cafes were allowed customers to dine outside. Many were hesitant in taking up the invitation

Taken outside the VIsitor's Center at the Tea Plantation outside of Charleston, SC. The live oak tree is so big it's branches touch the ground.

Caught this monk sitting under an enormous tree outside Wat Hong Rattanaram.

Been awhile since I posted an image of my dear canine pal, Teddy. He just turned 15 and is more precious by the day.

He was my companion on the 5 week trip to Alaska a few years ago in my truck camper. Ideal road pal, can't imagine how any dog could have been better. Easily my favorite trip.

May your weekend be wonderful!

It had been awhile since I took a walk by the Missouri River at English Landing Park, so I ventured down to see what I could find. I spotted this young couple on the park bench in the distance of this frame and as I walked nearer towards them I found this lovely view. The beautiful bouquet of Summer flowers, the river's inlet glowing in the sun, and the couple if you look close enough. This has to be one of my all time favorite images of the year. I just love the colors and laid back vibe of it all. It all goes so fast. Cherish it while you can.

Taken awhile ago when I walked up to towards the far beach at Trestrignel. It was a long walk but worth it, even though the light was poor that day.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

It’s been awhile…

Back from a longtime hiatus - much longer than I expected.

There are still so many things going on in my life, so I won’t have the time to visit here regularly, but at least I‘ll try - Looking for the inspiration, your creativity and kindness that I have always found here.

And let me tell you: I have missed you all 😉

This is an image from awhile back of a photographer that got stuck out at high tide. It was not my intention to shoot this fellow photographer but he would not move and it was right in the middle of where I wanted to shoot. After awhile I gave up and tried to work him into the image. This image won the category of best adventure for a National Geographic Photo Contest which was published in the National Geographic December 2008 issue. I was very happy to win the category but I missed out on the grand prize of a trip to two to AFRICA by a bit. Anyways, I am posting this image as I am doing a story on my blog about EXTREME PHOTOGRAPHY and thought this was very fitting

Just another frame from this adventure last fall that's been sitting around for awhile that I decided to post and file. I want to get back here again in the fall and try with some better light.

This is a spot that needs no introduction as it is one of the most famous locations in the northeast or dare I say all of the USA!

This is the famed Red Rocks high above Willsboro Bay on the west shore of Lake Champlain along the former Delaware and Hudson Railroad mainline that was completed as a through route to Canada in 1875.

This is southbound daily St. Luc Yard Montreal to Saratoga Springs manifest train 252 on a gloomy but colorful morning about 0745 AM. This is about MP 144.75 as measured from Albany, NY on modern day Canadian Pacific's Canadian Mainline.

This was a spot long on my bucket list though in all fairness I had been here once before in the mid 1990s when a local NY friend hiked me in here to see it and shoot Amtrak's Adirondack in the days when it was led by F40PHs. Getting here is quite the commitment as it is 4 1/2 hrs from home and then requires a nearly two mile hike in which started before sunrise to ensure I wouldn't miss be train.

While I certainly would have preferred the train a bit later when more light would have afforded a lower ISO and higher shutter speed, I'm still happy with the results. This is a special place...but not nearly as special as when Jim Shaugnessy stood right here to photograph ex Santa Fe PA's leading the Laurentian: twitter.com/americanrails/status/1150521700737585153?s=20

I made this capture awhile back somewhere around my relatively new home-place in Stevensville, MT. Not in-town, not far out of town. Driving about, looking for images already made and suitable for framing. A bit of compositional tweaking here and there added some interest I thought. Well, we all think that right before we trip the shutter. That's what makes us generally confident photographers.

The fall was primarily over here, but not the splendor of the scene. I wish that I remembered where it was that I took this shot and, if so, I would revisit the same vantage point this autumn season in the height of the color. But remembering is not my specialty these days. Sweet remembrances are, all the way back to the early 1950's.

No problem, however. I will stumble on to another enchanting scene the next time I head out somewhere. Remembering exactly where might be overrated. And at least I got this one once. Once can be enough. Once is way better than nonce.

Sears Roebuck vintage sign not sure when they went to just Sears but it has been awhile, this was on the front of a junk shop now, found in North Carolina.

It's been awhile since I stuck the APS-C compatible HD DA 55-300PLM lens on the 'incompatible' FF K-1. I've been toying with the idea of selling it now that I have no dedicated APS-C Pentax camera, but then I am reminded of days like this, maybe I should hold onto this affordable $500 plastic thing (it's not half bad).

Happy feathery Friday y'all!

Walking up the hillside trails of the Limahuli Garden and Preserve, the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai, I came upon one of my favorite plants. The brightly colored Croton leaves are large and leathery.

It is a traditional medicinal plant in the region, its leaves and stem bark being used in the form of tea or pills for the treatment of diabetes, high blood cholesterol levels and gastrointestinal disturbances, as well as hepatic disturbances and weight loss.

Awhile ago I lost the sign in for this Flickr I was so upset because I had lost all my followers and the people I follow .

I created a new Flickr

> www.flickr.com/photos/kystakass/ and honestly it just didn't feel the same ...I lost a lot of my motivation and didn't blog much at all. I moved across the country and that was hard enough but then I had lost track of everything, needless to say It was a lot to deal with, anyway I found my sign on today and I'm back and so happy !

I want to say thank you to each and every person who continued to follow me even though I was gone so long. Now I can get back to adding to the group and posting <3

For awhile, I had great luck finding Green Herons in this area, especially catching frogs, but this one even came up with a catfish. Birds are a little more careful with their catfish, not a quick toss, good for the photographer's trigger finger and entertainment. One more tomorrow to fill out my Heron list.

The day was summer perfection. The flowers at the peak of blossom. Butterflies and bees blissfully flying in and out of the frame. (sadly no unicorns) A background bokeh to die for. Do you ever have those glorious moments you want to last forever?

Every once in awhile, A Kickstarter campaign will catch my eye and I was impressed with this one. The author, Leo Babauta has delivered everything as promised and more throughout the campaign. I was happy to receive my copy of his latest book, Zen Habits and I look forward to reading it!

Aboutme

Haystack Rock is one of Oregon's most recognizable landmarks. At low tide, one can carefully explore the varied sea life clinging to rough surfaces.

The link below shares information about the Ochre Sea Star (Pisaster ochraceus). It is a commonly found sea star in the Pacific Ocean. Additionally is considered an important indicator for the health of the intertidal zone.

Many sea stars live to a minimal age of four years. P. ochraceus can live as long as twenty years.

Taken awhile ago but just came across this scan.

If I remember rightly its on Ilford SFX 200 with a red filter.

Been awhile since I visited a sim for a picture,so I went exploring this quiet place called Bella's Lullaby. A small island with some old houses and only a few vivid aspen trees but rich with lushy grass and a wide view of skies.
