I have tried to capture the nothern lights and the Big Dipper together for awhile now. Rhis is my best attempt to date. I'm not sure how many exposures I took trying to get this photo. The northern lights were out but not extremely strong. After about an hour they briefly got more intense. It was not a really clear night so that gave less stars visible in the sky which fortunately brought out the Big Dipper. The fog lights of my vehicle were turned on for about half the exposure giving a little light to the foreground.

...and here She Is !!

I was excitedly looking for an Osprey, or maybe even a Hawk while on a recent road-trip to the mountains. Long story short; not a Raptor to be seen by this old guy.

Just when my hopes for finding a prize subject were demolished, out pops this cutie. She put a smile on my face and happiness in my heart… Life is Good : )

One from awhile back of a sunrise looking out from the Terrigal rock shelves. I find that colour combo of the orange reflected light from the sun and the green of the weed on the rocks appealing. It reminds me of that old saying “Nature's wake-up call: When the sun rises, even the weeds show off their green glamour” Don’t feel confused if you haven’t heard it before, when I say “Old saying” I mean it’s about 2 hours since I made it up 😜

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend wherever you are! There is 15 minutes left here. And the days start getting longer now , yeeessss!

I'll be off for awhile-so enjoy your holidays and Happy New Year 2016.

Thank you for comments and faves.

The weather was crazy.

Its been awhile since I saw one in the garden,

this Praying Mantis was by a bush resting with another one,

I pulled little seedling and one flew away then this one flew but not far, I took it for a photo session:-)

It really gave me some good bites and grabs with those thorny feet,

Been awhile since I headed out for am shoots. Thanks to my jet lag I was up and about today.

No filters.

HDRI from 3 exposures.

Been awhile since I've seen the Bobcats, but finally saw one yesterday and took several shots of him. I spent a bit of time one on one then left for an hour and returned. He was still in the general area looking for prey. I had other obligations and had to leave. He tried a few times to grab prey but was unsuccessful. Next time! Click for large view.

I've sat on this for awhile: it's not for the squeamish or rodent lovers. I took a poll though and couldn't find anyone who loves gophers. I didn't see the whole story, but evidently the heron nails the gopher and then takes it to water for the finish. Whether it's already dead by the time it gets the dunking I don't know. Actually this is the second time I've seen a Great Blue - probably this Great Blue - do this at this local haunt.

Its been awhile since my last Sunday Sunset,

I met up with my son at the harbor, I took over 300 photos,

I bet he took twice as many.

Have a wonderful week!

On a summer day for sure, though maybe not in January!

HBM - does anyone do Bench Monday any more?!

It's been awhile since my last post. I made the effort to finally get out and see what was going on. I spent a couple outings with this handsome male. I think he tends to visit every other year. He seems very tolerant of me when he shows. I have tons of shots I took in those outings.

Hello Flickr Friends ❤️💙

It's been awhile, I've missed being here admiring and enjoying your photos, I look forward to catching up soon! :) I hope you are well, enjoying the season in your neck of the woods!:)

....travelling is a privilege, grateful and lucky to be able to experience a new place!

. .. Newfoundland was a bucket list place to visit. The 2 things I hoped to see most was an iceberg and a Puffin. yay :) (Puffin photo coming soon)

.....As such you can imagine how incredible this was to witness part of this iceberg falling off and crashing into the ocean!... ..still in complete awe! lol . The sound and details of it collapsing!..the wave it created. the chances to witness such a thing in nature! (and safely) :) I will treasure the moment forever.

The color, and size was magnificent! every angle is a completely new look to an iceberg. I will be posting more:)

Even though I researched the best time to see icebergs, it does not always guarantee you will. Apparently last year there were none in this area. Twillingate.(part of iceberg alley)...it all depends on the weather, currents, wind direction etc.

"Q: How much of an iceberg is below water?".....Answer below at the end:)

some more fascinating facts if you are interested:

"A: Almost 90% of an iceberg is under water, hence the phrase “tip of the iceberg.” Its maximum width under water is 20-30% larger than you can see at the surface. The average depth, or draught of an iceberg, is slightly less than its apparent length above water."

Awhile ago I posted photo of a red truck with reflections, this is what was reflecting into truck. Every time you move building changes colours.

Cell Phone capture!

We've had an incredibly dry summer. Finally, about 2 weeks ago, we had a quick rain, in which I went outside to capture these flowers. And the other day we had an absolute downpour, which has had a bit of an effect on all the wildfires. Here's hoping for some more rain....

I am going to Vancouver Island to see family and friends, so will be off Flickr for about a week. I won't have time for photography, except maybe off the ferry, and I think you've all seen enough of my photos from a ship for awhile :)

Happy Weekend!

Once in awhile I need a bit of help to find my happy. Got sticky fingers and a big smile now : )

Make it a Great Day… You Deserve it !!!

It's been awhile since I've posted, work and all seems to interfere.

And today I'm meeting a client....yay a client! A gal who will be delivering in about 3 weeks or so, yippie, I'll have a newborn shoot!! Then 2 more lined up after that.

Naturey stuff is sorta taking the back burner right now, but I still have tons in the archives!!

Every once in awhile, I like to capture rose buds. I love the layers of petals unfolding! I love the color on this one in particular! Hope you enjoy!

For Lisa and Cee.

It has been awhile since I shared a photo of Ms. Elsie. She is still with us, cranky as ever. With spring creeping in, she has been going for walkabouts in our backyard, but I need to keep an eye on her. We have a falcon and an owl flying around, and though she is probably too big for them, that would suck if they swooped down to pick her up as a snack. Anyway. Her she is, looking at us, not actually wanting in, but just checking in. Have a good week everyone. B

It’s been awhile since I posted any rope. I know, weird subject but there is just something about it that grabs my attention. Yeah, it’s definitely the textures but I also feel like it has seen stuff, lived a whole life, and has good stories to tell. Not sure it’s normal to give inanimate objects ‘life’ but that’s where my head goes every time!

After one full week of virtual learning with my kids I’m so ready for Friday! May even tie one on. (Kidding!!!) :-)

Happy Friday all!!! I hope you have a great weekend!!!

It's been awhile since I posted an Orchid.

It has been a awhile since we’ve spotted a Kestrel. We were visiting Yolo Bypass near Davis Ca and there were lots of birds to see, including this little beauty.

This Female kestrel was easy to identify by the rufous coloring on her head, wings, and back, with black barring.

The female’s wings lack the male’s blue-gray color.

“But when fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you.”

Been awhile since I posted a black and white image so here is one of Mt. Rainier at sunrise with Emmons Glacier catching the day's first light.

"The highest mountain in the northwestern Cascade Range, Mount Rainier has 25 named glaciers that adorn the mountain, the most of any mountain in the continental United States. Emmons Glacier covers the largest area of any glacier in the contiguous 48 states, stretching over 4 miles. Hikers can follow the glacier to the peak, as it spans from the White River Valley to the summit of the mountain. Mount Rainier’s glaciers provide an essential water source for six ice-cold rivers, including the Nisqually, Mowich and Carbon." doi.gov

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Been awhile since I posted a monochrome image. Sometimes b/w works as good or better than technicolor presentations.

My long-exposure capture of Montana's Ousel Falls captured the mist trail nicely as it floated downstream. Truly an enchanting waterfall.

Enjoy a wonderful Tuesday!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!!

Been awhile since we went here. The sunrise was muted. Luckily we got a shot at the pre dawn colors , and ably aided by some yellow electrical lamps behind us.

4 of us headed out this morning .. Shikaresh , Sai and Souvik

1. The rocks had the orange/yellow colors, thanks to the light painted by the electrical lamps behind us - on the bund.

2. The light at the far end was just about coming in, with a light pinkish hue...accentuated by a s/w filter ;-) (for a change) !

3. The water comes off a long exposure with cahnges in temperature settings to warm the same.

DRI - 4 exposures with varied spot focus from foreground, mid ground to background

Waited awhile for the right moment!!

Thank you for your comments.

Cannon Beach, Oregon

Since I was not able to hike this weekend and the weather is stormy today, I thought I would post a sunset from a couple months ago.

[**Note: I did not enhance or change the colors in these photos at all - everything really was pink!]

As someone who has been obsessed with sunsets since I was a child, I have watched some untold number of them over the years, and photographed many. But once in awhile there still comes a sunset that is like nothing I have seen before. This remarkable evening in Cannon Beach this summer was one of those.

As mentioned in the previously posted “Golden Gift”, the last day there was foggy and I wasn’t sure if there would be a sunset to see, but late in the afternoon some rays of sunshine broke through the clouds and turned everything to gold.

The clouds returned after that golden moment, but as it approached the time for sunset, something extraordinary happened. The sun turned pink! And then the sky and waves did too. I was completely transfixed by the jaw-dropping sight of it all. It was so striking that I’m posting multiple images because it feels like the only way to really convey the entirety of the moment.

And like the physical light of a sublime sunset that suddenly bursts through the clouds, sometimes a similar metaphorical light appears in one’s life. Perchance in the form of an unexpected friendship that one didn’t know was needed, but has now become a cherished gift. A friendship that illuminates the shadows to which one had grown so accustomed that their presence was no longer noticed. As one’s eyes adjust to the dark when light fades and dusk falls, so it happens with life as well. Until a friend, perhaps unknowingly on their part, extends the steady glow of warmth and light that sparks a heartfelt song of luminescent joy.

So this post is dedicated, with much gratitude, to that special glow of incandescent friends :-)

It took us awhile to get to Yosemite this year. Every time we looked at the weather it was raining. This day was perfect with blue skies along with a few clouds. This photo is from the Tunnel View area in Yosemite National Park. The waterfalls were flowing everywhere and the river was high, the only issue, visiting this time of year, is that the park was extremely crowded and for most of the photos I just dropped my wife off and came back to get her as there was nowhere to park. Tunnel View provides one of the most iconic views of Yosemite Valley. From here you can see El Capitan and Bridal veil Fall rising from Yosemite Valley, with Half Dome in the background. This viewpoint is at the east end of the Wawona Tunnel along the Wawona Road (Highway 41). Yes, it looks the same as it ever was but we enjoy it anew every time we come.

It has been awhile since I've posted a rope photo. Anyone following me knows I love photographing its texture, colour, and unique characteristics. I always feel like it has an interesting history and a story to tell.

This one was set up as a barrier on the side of a cliff that dropped straight into our frigid Atlantic. Bet it has seen some pretty spectacular waves, sunrises, and no doubt, chilly, chilly days!
