Active Assignment Weekly: May 17-24 – Wordsworth
Spires whose "silent finger points to heaven." (William Wordsworth)
I got to go to San Francisco this weekend and I just love the sky scrapers there for some reason. The enormity of them never ceases to amaze me.
WIT: This is basically SOOC except for a little sharpening and cropping.
In this edited version of the photograph, I went ahead and began with cropping. I followed up with a levels, contrast, and then a lomo effect. I wanted this photograph to be vivid rather than subtle. After having tuned the shadows and highlights, I add a depth of field, which I was not able to do before, I completed my edits with a touching up the photograph by sharpening it. Using the contrast between the black and red, the saturation creates a high energy vibe, as well as a rustic look. The depth of field seems to make the ship much larger in the image. Let me know what you think about having gone, vivid versus subtle. I use Photoshop elements to create my edits.

The Guardian Camera Club : June Assignment : Self Portraits
I wanted the focus of this shot to be on the hands and keys; focussing on the instrument with the player in the background.
I combined assignments 35 and 34 to make this work. I used the wrap this page to "wrap" the Wreck this Journal that I gave my friend Gabby. I was flicking through the book and and I saw the give away your favorite page. I figured that since I was already giving away a page, I may as well decorate it like some of my favorites.
Setup shot for Lighting Boot Camp assignment #3. Two Sunpak PZ5000's, the right one slaved wirelessly off the left which was triggered by a Pocket Wizard. Left one has a 12" snoot and a 1/2 straw (Roscoe #3442) gel to add some warmth to his hand. Power settings were 1/4 on the left, 1/16 +2/3 on the right.
Camera settings: ISO 100, 1/80 at F10.0 (should have gone to F16 or better to get that hand and solar cell a little more in focus).
I have terrible eyesight, so manual focusing is tough for me. I photographed the tap through a slotted spatula for the practise.
Best viewed at "Large" size. Doesn't look right at smaller sizes.
No post-processing done except cropping.
Any guesses to what it is?

"Couldn't have written it better myself." Always nice to hear.
I fucked up though. Waiting until the end to put my references in was a terrible idea, and when it came to it, I couldn't be bothered, so I didn't. (Well would you? Eight pages of bollocks about behaviorism, Skinner, operant conditioning, blah, blah, blah.) So I got marked down for that. Pretty much a perfect essay in every other regard.

For this photo, I took a picture of some rocks. I really like how there are a variety of colors and sizes along with some small twigs.

My first ever assignment in
South America was a grand one - one month in Ecuador, one of the most incredible destinations I have ever know. I landed in Quito for a trip with Metropolitan Touring - www.metropolitan-touring.com - that turned inside out everything I thought I knew about South America.
I can't wait to go back.
Flash Parker Freelance:
I gave my camera to my nine years old son and told him to go and take some pictures. He came back with this...not bad.
This is my first assignment. I appreciate to receive any kind of comment that can improve my technique and attitude on photography.
