My kitchen
This is my favourite coffee table book - the program I purchased when I saw Wicked at the Apollo in London last fall.
This was a challenging assignment to say the least. I found myself shooting 3 rolls of film for negative space assignment and got lost in the moment. after shooting 35 pictures I had one shot left. I spent about 2 hours at a specific location shooting various negative spaces, but something caught my eye just as I was about to leave. I was getting in my car and I noticed these trees in the background. It's funny how you totally miss something that was right in front of you the whole time. The thing I really find interesting about the photo is the way I captured that sunbeam hitting the left tree. There is a perfect sunlit circle and the exposure was dead on. When shooting I had a difficult time because of all the dark shadows and shade all around the trees. This was a fun assignment and now it really makes me more aware of all the negative space in photos. We are learning to see more with exercises in Right vs Left brain. I have started to really open my eyes up while out and about and have found so many wonderful locations. I just need to get out and shoot!

I shot this photo for an assignment using different compositional elements. As a part of my marketing job, I'm often asked to go snap some photos of different events going on. This one was during a tour of a new building in construction for Interior Design students at the Centre for Technology in Kelowna.
Sadly, there's a pole coming out of the guys head, (there were poles everywhere!) but I only had a second to take this picture while the two people were lined up like that.
So today being Mother's Day I thought I'd do a theme along those lines... The china is the pattern we received at our wedding, and the silverware is a child's set, so the idea here is the children being embraced by the marriage. The tulip is just because it's pretty. LOL I also liked playing with the contrasting textures: the smooth china and shiny silverware, against the organic flower and bamboo placemat. Slight crop and 60% saturation reduction in PSE7.
