Assignment 52: Creating depth
"Select a scene that has one subject approximately 6 feet away from you, a second subject approximately 20 feet from you, and a third subject about 40 feet or more (even very far away) from you. Select an aperture that will result in all three subject being in sharp focus."
I'm still not sure about this one, as it seemed the fence might stop the eye. Maybe it's the quality of the light shining on the house that keeps that from happening. My neighborhood seemed overly cluttered for this compositional challenge. I kept trying, & I almost used this one:

This assignment turned out to be a difficult but very interesting challenge. Seems a straightforward exercise in composition, which it would be in drawing or painting. But finding these subjects in natural settings, at the approximate prescribed distances, in a pleasing spatial relationship fitting into camera frame, & without too much intervening clutter, turned out to be difficult. An additional unforeseen dilemma once one does manage to lead the eye into the scene, is it an interesting enough place for the eye to want to go?
My best shot for the film noir assignment. Never could figure out where the stupid glare line down the camera left side of the bottle was coming from...every light that I could tell was in my area was off. Otherwise, I really liked this one. :)

Still trying to figure out which one of these to use for my submission to the bootcamp assignment....mind recommending your favorite?
I spent three days at Roy Chilem's racing stables in Tolga on the Atherton Tableland as part of an uprating ISO assignment for La Trobe University. I was hard going. I only had suitable lighting conditons for about an hour. The stable was also very busy, which added another layer of difficulty. I decided against getting Mel, Roy and Gary to stop working for pictures, which is why there is a lot of movement in the shots.
Today I took the camera into Sleaford and visited the National Centre for Craft & Design, formerly known as The Hub.

Shot for an assignment which required the use of an f/22 aperture.
The idea here is to make use of the enormous depth of field at f/22. I used 17mm and the hyper focal distance of ~26" which gives acceptabe focus from 13" to infinity. My hands are about 3" in front of the lens which is just too close but gave a nice crop frame.
The assignment suggested no light to be added but I had to add some to light my hands as it was virtually dark. SB-800 + CTO through white umbrella high camera right. I also had to shoot at ISO 3200 to keep the shutter speed down as I couldn't hold my hands still for a longer exposure.
I combined assignments 35 and 34 to make this work. I used the wrap this page to "wrap" the Wreck this Journal that I gave my friend Gabby. I was flicking through the book and and I saw the give away your favorite page. I figured that since I was already giving away a page, I may as well decorate it like some of my favorites.
Setup shot for Lighting Boot Camp assignment #3. Two Sunpak PZ5000's, the right one slaved wirelessly off the left which was triggered by a Pocket Wizard. Left one has a 12" snoot and a 1/2 straw (Roscoe #3442) gel to add some warmth to his hand. Power settings were 1/4 on the left, 1/16 +2/3 on the right.
Camera settings: ISO 100, 1/80 at F10.0 (should have gone to F16 or better to get that hand and solar cell a little more in focus).

I am new to editing photos besides editing with instagram filters. I've been using Pixlr for editing my photos this week. The original photo's colors were fairly dull, so I increased the color contrast to make the colors more vibrant. I also changed the color balance to make the photo more blue and green, rather than red. I cropped the photo to remove distractions and focus more on the glasses. In the original photo is was difficult to see my friend and I in the reflection of the sunglasses, but after the edits, alot more detail is visible. I think the edits made the photo have a more clear focal point and gave a more detailed photo.
