On a flight from London to Istanbul, Turkey, this was the first view of the airport and city. We continued descending over the sea, turned left and made our approach and landing.
In the picture, just left of the centre is our destination, Ataturk airport. Also, in the picture, beyond the airport is the centre of the big city.
At the time of writing this a new, bigger airport will soon open, a few miles north of this one and Ataturk will no longer take scheduled passenger flights.
Our aircraft was a Boeing 767.

The ferry ride from Mackinaw City, Michigan, to Mackinac Island is short and scenic. It is a wonderful place to visit. There are no cars, no trucks, and no motorcycles allowed on this island. You travel by foot, bicycle, or carriage.
Here is the approaching storm front of the "passing storm" clouds system. There was a heavy rain line coming down the lake, which hid the low sun moments before. Shower was brief where we stood, accompanied by gusty wind. These images are about 30 minutes apart. There was lightning activity across the lake, but not near our position.
As we waited quietly at Florida's Oleta State Park in the Miami area, a n inquisitive racoon cautiously approached.
If he was looking for a handout, he came to the wrong place.
Today Alice and I went to Aberdeen to have a look at the University. Alice is thinking of going to study there. This was taken on the approach to Aberdeen station, while we were on the train.
Thorncrown Chapel was designed by world renowned architect E. Fay Jones. Fay was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1921. He studied at the University of Arkansas, Rice University, the University of Oklahoma, and finally under his mentor Frank Lloyd Wright at the Taliesin Fellowship.
Jones’ awards include the 1981 American Institute of Architecture National Honor Award for Thorncrown Chapel and the AIA Gold Medal (1990). Thorncrown was listed fourth on the AIA’s top ten buildings of the 20th century. When alive, Mr. Jones was recognized as one of the top ten living architects of the 20th century.
The inspiration for Thorncrown Chapel was Sainte Chappelle, Paris’ light filled gothic chapel. Fay affectionately labeled Thorncrown’s style as “Ozark Gothic.” The chapel rises 48 feet into the sky with over 6,000 square feet of glass and 425 windows. Its dimensions are 24 feet by 60 feet. The chapel is made with all organic materials to fit its natural setting. The only steel in the structure forms a diamond shaped pattern in its wooden trusses. The building has a native flagstone floor surrounded with a rock wall which gives the feeling that the chapel is part of its Ozark hillside.
In order to preserve Thorncrown’s natural setting, Fay decided that no structural element could be larger than what two men could carry through the woods. The building materials are primarily pressure treated pine 2x4s, 2x6s, and 2x12s. The larger elements of the building such as the trusses were assembled on the floor and raised into place.
Back in the days of diesel-hydraulic haulage, the 1030 London Paddington - Paignton train comes around the bend on the well-known and much-photographed stretch of line between Dawlish and Teignmouth, Devon. Monday 25th February 1974 ...a beautiful balmy day with a touch of Spring in the air.

I don't often post images with no direct light. But I thought this had a nice feel to it. The approaching storm brought rain, hail and snow. It was nice to be out though. I'll be back to try this composition again.

The boat trip across the ocean from Velas to São Roque do Pico went well. Ok, It was a little windy and not sunny but the dolphins and even flying fish accompanying us made this trip to an unforgettable experience. In the background Pico is still covered with heavy clouds....

Soon you'll see more of this island where we stayed only 24 hours due to some circumstances (an overbooked flight, so we needed to take the boat to another island first and take another flight from there to the isle of São Miguel). But don't worry...we had enough time to discouver what should be dicouvered:-) Stay in touch and surprise yourself...

Palindromic 70007 approaches Shawford working a late 4O03 Lawley Street to Southampton MCT liner. Most unusually the few boxes were immediately behind the loco and not at the far end of the flats as is usually the case

A dying storm system approaches Proctor as IC 6252 comes into the yard. At this point the front of the storm is above us and we're being blasted by the front of air almost blowing us off the bridge.

HDR of the beautiful art-deco architecture of Cincinnati's former train station, now home to several museums. Very cool building, inside and out. The approaching storm produced some awesome dark clouds that added a tremendous depth to the photo. I also love the somewhat surreal sense of motion of the water flowing down the fountain.
