The sun may set, but it really doesn't get dark at this time of year this far north. There is always bit of light coming from the horizon.

Unlike the sea of rolling domes to the west, the northeastern corner of Yosemite has some spectacular sharp peaks falling away to the Tuolumne River's great gorge. I wasn't previously aware that this particular area was so outstanding, and it left me transfixed both then and now.
These photos were shot looking somewhat into the sun, but I'm glad they came out fairly decently.
The dwarf CPL at Arthur Kill station on the Staten Island Railway is showing "Approach," as the departing train has just cleared the block. With CPL signals and third rail, there's only one place we can be!
A rare storm approaches this normally arid desert.
This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera and SMC PENTAX 67 1:4 45mm lens with a HOYA 82mm HMC Y[K2] filter using Kodak TRI-X 400 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

In pouring rain and clouds hanging low over Thwaite Bridge Common, 'Royal Scot' class 4-6-0 No.46115 'Scots Guardsman' approaches the Yorkshire/Cumbria border just before Ais Gill summit heading the 1Z70 York to Carlisle 'Waverley' charter on Sunday 5th August 2012. The locomotive was regrettably declared a failure at Carlisle and the passengers were treated to West Coast Railway Company class 47 haulage for their return journey to Yorkshire. Yet another occasion this summer where I had to undertake a juggling act with the camera and the brolly.

I have not had much time to spend on my computer lately, with various activities and the approaching holidays. And not much time for Flickr. I just wanted to say have a great weekend, and to all Americans, Happy Thanksgiving next Thursday.

A B.N.S.F east bound stack train approaches Lombard,Montana. Seen near the pumping plant on Toston,Reservoir. (Missouri River). More snow than usual in this area this winter. I trudged through 6 inches of crusty snow to get here.
On a flight from London to Istanbul, Turkey, this was the first view of the airport and city. We continued descending over the sea, turned left and made our approach and landing.
In the picture, just left of the centre is our destination, Ataturk airport. Also, in the picture, beyond the airport is the centre of the big city.
At the time of writing this a new, bigger airport will soon open, a few miles north of this one and Ataturk will no longer take scheduled passenger flights.
Our aircraft was a Boeing 767.

The ferry ride from Mackinaw City, Michigan, to Mackinac Island is short and scenic. It is a wonderful place to visit. There are no cars, no trucks, and no motorcycles allowed on this island. You travel by foot, bicycle, or carriage.
Here is the approaching storm front of the "passing storm" clouds system. There was a heavy rain line coming down the lake, which hid the low sun moments before. Shower was brief where we stood, accompanied by gusty wind. These images are about 30 minutes apart. There was lightning activity across the lake, but not near our position.
