On the morning of February 1, while a powerful Nor'easter was slamming the NYC area, an inbound LIRR train arrives at Nostrand Avenue, splitting the two position light signals on the elevated structure. By 3 pm all LIRR, Metro-North, and above-ground subway service would be suspended due to the storm.

My goal with this series is to explore every day scenes under the cover of darkness. A street corner, a lamp post, a doorway. Big city, small town, urban, rural. I captured this young bald eagle in a tree near Portage Alaska. It looks like dirty feathers but I believe this to be a young bird as it doesn't have the clean white of a fully mature eagle. It takes several years for an eagle to fully mature. It was eating some food - what I couldn't tell - in its claws on the branch.

172221 is at the head of 2D28 the 11.15 Kidderminster to Stratford-upon-Avon. To most of the waiting 'customers' it represented a welcome warm and dry relief from the incessant rain.

We are a little below 3300m in the Shilla gorge, still a kilometre or two from the village of Wanla. As usual, I've been spending too long on photography, and am behind the first ponies.
The Flickr mapping gives Kashmir as the location, which may be politically true but culturally we are firmly in Ladakh, having left Kashmir behind.
In contrast to the previous few days the morning of Saturday the 22nd March was rather misty and damp. The rather dreary conditions are briefly enlivened by the presence of 60002 approaching the newly opened Newsham station with the 6N86 0911 Tyne Coal Terminal to Lynemouth loaded biomass working.
The Chateau of Monsieur Epernay Freschi can be seen through the trees of this island encased in a circle of mountains, like the most precious jewel. The rumor says it contains one of the most unique collections of French Art of the XVIII th century, Monsieur Freschi being the last exponent of Le Grand Goût of the Enlightenment era.
But I decided to visit the Park first....

One thunderstorm had already gone through a little earlier, then this one popped up and brought a few more sprinkles & rumbles, but ended up skirting around us.
Stonehenge is dwarfed by the surrounding developments until you actually reach the Henge, where none of this is visible except as light pollution in the night sky
DBS "Red Shed" 66115 approaches Pantyffynnon signal box along the single track on its journey to Gwaen -Cae - Gurwen open cast coal mine on the 6B15, having originated at Swansea Burrows. The train will return to Swansea Burrows loaded with anthracite and will be despatched by another train journey to Onllwyn for processing.

No streaking , but a fully white head when complete
The standard three pack of ex CNW C40-8s have a U789 train of modern CN era ore cars (over 1000 of which were acquired between 2009 and 2018) loaded with taconite from US Steel's Minntac Plant destined for the docks in Two Harbors by way of the Minntac Sub to Wolf, the Missabe Sub to Iron Jct., and finally the Iron Range Sub east and south to Lake Superior. The train is at about MP 1 on the eight mile long Minntac Subdivision just north of the Kane Road crossing as the train approaches Nomi Junction.
This is a region that should need no introduction to even the most casual fan as the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway is in a word legendary. I won't bore you with pages of history as I couldn't do the road or region justice anyway. It simply needs to be experienced for oneself. But I will direct you to two resources. Having arrived at Shannon over a year ago (3/4/22) and undergoing extensive maintenance Amerijet B767-232F N743AX took to the skies again yesterday for a test flight climbing out like " a love sick angel" - did two approaches first with a planned go-around.
A storm approaches Belfort, France, at night. Occasional lightning reveals the features of the cumulonimbus, and in particular, a nice shelf cloud.
A lengthy SP manifest is rolling along through Cable and is fast approaching the summit. In Tehachapi they will cut out their helper set and begin the descent into Mojave. So many good memories wrapped up in this shot from the four elephant style tunnel motors to the variety of freight cars. I sure miss the SP. 7.86

The dirty one on the left is Valerie and the one on the right is Hubbard. The keener folk are out in the wind and mist on the 5th deck , the smart ones are in the Celebrations' Lounge on the 11th deck. The outside temperature falls to 0 degrees C as you get closer.

After a fabulous day over the Settle-Carlisle line with just a couple of disappointments, notwithstanding the reduced exhaust effects brought about by the higher than the forecast temperature, it was too much to ask for yet another shot of the 'Waverley' charter in sunshine. A weather front had rapidly closed in since I had left the summit at Ais Gill and it was touch and go whether to call it a day and head on home. I am never one to give up as easily as that though! A late departure from Hellifield was forced upon the charter, as a result of a late-running Carlisle to Leeds service, the 'Waverley' being held for twenty-two minutes. This allowed sufficent time for the clouds to roll in, leaving just a few small and brief intermittent periods of brighter light between the thicker cloud cover. With the best exhaust of the day that I had witnessed from the Gresely 'A3' Pacific, it was getting into its stride with a full head of steam, successfully clawing back time on its schedule when a chink of light through the clouds illuminated the scene sufficently to provide a glint on the locomotive and train and provided some contrast to the scene. 60103 'Flying Scotsman' heads the 1Z46 16:16 Carlisle to York 'Waverley' charter near Otterburn on Sunday 13th August 2017 . And what a finale to a most memorable day!
