Animation of a set of 19 micrographs of a trio of chondrules in a thin-sectioned specimen of the Allende Meteorite, using cross-polarized light. Typical frame is Allende 5846 in this same set. Click All Sizes to see the animation run.
Field of view is about 2mm actual size.
Photographed with a DSLR attached to a petrographic microscope.
The Allende meteorites fell in 1969 at Pueblito de Allende, Mexico.

'Window' was a short animation project created by me and 3 other students. We had less than a week to create and edit it so it isnt necessarily the most polished piece but we were fairly happy with it. The plant characters (and their facial expressions), a couple of backdrops and a couple of props (cars, windows etc) were made by me. Whilst I didnt voice the character, I did record them from a friend and edit them myself, and I also entirely edited the final product together. I was also obviously involved in the actual animation process.
I am quite happy with the piece as a first step in the world of animation.

Animation of 28 DSLR frames (reduced to 640x480 format). The images were made using cross-polarized light through a petrographic microscope. The lower polarizer was rotated 5 degrees between frames. Field of view is about 0.0003 inch, top to bottom.
The "Ghubara" meteorite is found on the surface of the desert in Ghubara, Jiddat Al Harasis, Oman. Since its discovery in 1954 about 5,000kg have been recovered. It is unusually rich in noble gases and is classified as a regolith breccia L5 meteorite with xenolithic (mixed) inclusions.

OSIRIS-REx Mission Design: Earth Return Animations
On September 24, 2023, OSIRIS-REx will return its sample of asteroid Bennu to Earth. The sample return capsule will detach from the spacecraft, perform an entry, descent and landing sequence, and touch down at the UTTR facility in Utah. The Bennu samples will be taken to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas for curation, and will be studied by scientists around the world for decades to come.

Animation Courtyard
The Magic of Disney Animation -- This attraction underwent a major rehab in November 2003, and then another minor rehab in October 2004. Here's the current format:
The tour begins with visitors sitting in an area featuring a live artist. The 10-minute segment, called "Drawn to Animation," features the artist interacting with an animated version of the tiny dragon Mushu, from 1998's popular feature Mulan. After hearing about the importance of character development and watching a humorous video with some Mulan artists, guests will visit the area that overlooks what USED to be the workspace of Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida. The Cast Member in this segment talks briefly about animation, and answers a few questions. Unfortunately, the real Disney animators were all laid off in early January 2003, and the entire animation process relocated to Disney's California studios, so there is nothing much to see when you are released from that part of the tour. After the cast member's talk, visitors have the chance to visit a number of interactive activities or to sit for 15-20 minutes at a Mickey-themed animator table and create their own Disney character art at the Animation Academy, under the guidance of a Disney artist.
The Sound Stage -- In this hands-on activity, young animators can play with various sound effects and create their own soundtrack for an animated scene.
Digital Ink and Paint -- As these workstations you can add color to an animated scene, and create your own atmosphere.
You're a Character -- In this booth, you can visit with Lumiere (of Beauty and the Beast fame), who will ask you a series of questions and tell you which Disney character you are most like.

Short animation of Callisto moving behind Jupiter between 22:00 and 22:19 GMT on the evening of 9th December
An animation of 36 individual frames, each frame having a polarizer rotated 5 degrees relative to the adjacent frames, for a total rotation of 180 degrees.
These frames are a 20X magnification of a wafer-thin cross section of a meteorite from the Vaca Muerta fall. These meteorites were found in the Atacama Desert and are a form called mesosiderites -- meaning bits of both stony and iron material. They are rather loosely bound in a matrix of silicates, so they are a rare class to find: they normally break up on entry into our atmosphere, so large examples are rare. Several hundred Vaca Muerta examples are known.
Astronomers and planetary geologists study meteorites in thin section to determine their material makeup. The colors, and angles of refraction, of the light through the crystals revealed by the saw and grinding wheels help identify the crystals. These are mostly plagioclase and pyroxene, but some of the darker areas are iron and iron sulfide (troilite). Some of this material is quite likely as old as, or older than, the Earth itself.
Radiogenic dating of zircon and other crystals tell us the formation age of meteorites. Cosmic-ray tracks in the transparent crystals tell us how long the material has been in space in the solar system since it formed.
And, to top it all off, the colorful light patterns formed by rotating the polarizers in the microscope make for rather pretty pictures.

To the right of the inspiration board, I have a corner filled with stacks with ready-to-use animation bond paper, exposure sheets, thumbnail boards, blank storyboard pages, folders -- along with more various oddities that never cease to inspire me.
(And for the record, I am NOT a NASCAR fan. That big number 8 was bought by Andrea at a flea market. She got a whole stack of old gas station numbers.)
