He tolerated us fairly well. Our trails were parallel to his, but we were moving in the opposite direction. Grasslands below Mato Tipila.

This was taking in 2016 at Longham Lakes. The only time I've seen one there.

A 5x5 mature White-tailed buck in an alert pose in a meadow with afternoon light.

Alerted, a Nine-banded Armadillo sniffs the air.

Once this huge male elk caught sight of us, he was on the alert.... and so was I. He could move through the bush without catching his magnificent antlers on any tree branches. I, on the other hand was thinking how slowly I had to walk climbing over brush and branches.

Impala is the most common antelope of the bushveld regions of South Africa. A very graceful, rufous-fawn antelope, with white underparts, measuring approximately 900 mm at the shoulders. Rams weigh around 60 Kg and ewes 40 Kg. A black stripe extends from the top of the rump down the back of each thigh. The lower hind legs have glands beneath tufts of black hair. Only the rams have horns which are lyre-shaped, and reach a length of 700 mm.
