Egyptian geese were considered sacred by the Ancient Egyptians, and appeared in much of their artwork. They have been raised for food and extensively bred in parts of Africa since they were domesticated by the ancient Egyptians. Because of their popularity chiefly as ornamental bird, escapes are common and small feral populations have become established in Western Europe.

On my second drive to Alaska from Maryland and through Canada my friend Margaret, who lives near Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, was driving me around the area to see what birds were there. We came across a small herd of Mule Deer and this one in particular alerted to our presence. They didn't run off immediately but watched us for several minutes before slipping away. That same day I saw Mule Deer bounding off, and I mean bounding on all fours. I had never seen that before and it was a laugh out loud moment for me!

Startled by a sudden noise, this Squirrel stood bolt upright. It soon calmed and went back to stashing and eating food. Finally seeing these lovely creatures in open ground felt like an honour. We both laid on the forest floor and the Squirrels ran around us, coming really close. Having bags of nuts ready as food offerings made us an acceptable hazard.
Chipmunks seem to be always on the alert. With good reason, too. I've read that they have a relatively short life span due to having so many predators.
Styan's Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens refulgens) named "Honey" at the San Diego Zoo.
These are the original pandas. They were described by French zoologist Cuvier in 1825 > 40 years before the black-and-white bear was cataloged. Both live in the same bamboo forests of China. The Red Panda also lives in the mountains of Nepal, Bhutan, and India.
Over the years, the San Diego Zoo has had both subspecies of red panda. Honey is an example of Styan's red panda (Ailurus fulgens refulgens) that is somewhat larger and darker than the Western Red Panda.

Another capture from my lucky encounter with two Brown Hares on Friday. A passing car had spooked this one and it sat up, alert and ready to run.
Such an alert animal (for good reason!), I find it so difficult to get near them as their hearing is so acute!
I was walking along a ridge in the woods when I felt I was being watched. I looked down to see this beauty staring at me. We looked at one another for a while before she decided to play it safe and run gracefully away.

The small birds were sounding the alert that something was amiss in their surrounding, this Cooper's Hawk had his eye on some supper! I think he thought he was doing a good job of hiding. Been around a few times in the last couple of weeks.
