We are in Tucson Arizona's summer monsoon. I received these three warning alerts last Thursday. This is a shot of my iPhone's screen. It is less than three inches wide. I cropped it anyway even though it is less dramatic...

This is a cropped version of a recent prior submission which, the more I looked at it the less I liked it. This cuts out some distraction. I hope you enjoy it... more than the first! trh

African Jacana (Actophilornis africans)

The African Jacana is a wader in the family Jacanidae, identifiable by long toes and long claws that enable them to walk on floating vegetation in shallow lakes, their preferred habitat. Jacanas are found worldwide within the tropical zone, and this species is found in sub-saharan Africa.

African Jacanas are conspicuous and unmistakable birds. They are about 30 cm long, but females are larger than males. They have chestnut upperparts with black wingtips, rear neck, and eyestripe.

This image was captured at Lake Panic, near the Skukuza Rest Camp, Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Just past sundown. Cataraqui Wetlands.

I always feel a little electricity in the air when I come suddenly upon a deer in the wild. I think it has something to do with how alert the deer becomes when it senses my presence. There is a vibrancy inherent in this level of mindfulness--no thoughts or judgements--just a total immersion in observing the moment.

Now I'm heading back to immerse myself in work. See ya all next weekend.

Not uploaded for a while so here's some of what i've been up to...

This is a female jaguar we saw on a beach of Cuiabá River - Wild in it's habitat. Much better seen large! Taken from a boat.

Happy Caturday!

Facts: The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a big cat, a feline in the Panthera genus, and is the only extant Panthera species native to the Americas. The jaguar is the third-largest feline species after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Americas. The jaguar is a near-threatened species and its numbers are declining. Threats include loss and fragmentation of habitat. While international trade in jaguars or their parts is prohibited, the cat is still frequently killed by humans, particularly in conflicts with ranchers and farmers in Brazil.

Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

This little one was checking out something that caught its attention.

Squirrel at Tehidy Park, Camborne.

She is always alert, listening.

We were lucky, a sunny day for a change :)

I know I've done shadows like this before, and ok to be honest, I've got some others I'd like to post sometime. But I really like the way it comes out at him, and he keeps a wary eye on it as he passes.

Eyes on the Warthogs 😁

This buck just started a scrape and was standing around licking his nose and lip curling in hopes a receptive doe was around, when something caught his attention. It was a larger buck approaching, and this buck retreated far enough back into the oaks that we could no longer see him with binos. Bucks avoid fights when they can.

Our beautiful world, pass it on.

Today’s nature walk in Central Tucson revealed this alert mourning dove high above us in a large mesquite tree. It was a beautiful bright sunshiny day
