Residential developments in Harpur Hill are seriously compromising some of the previously excellent vistas that were on offer. In this case, DB Cargo Class 66/0 No. 66076 makes the descent towards Buxton with 6V11, the 10:00 Dowlow Briggs Sidings – Theale Hope Cement loaded MMAs on 11th May 2021.

2021 represents a significant milestone in the history of the Phoenix Railway-Photographic Circle with the celebration of our 50th anniversary by publishing a book to showcase some of the members work, past and present, from 1971 to the present day.

The book contains 14 chapters and 144 pages of photographs depicting the work of over 50 accomplished railway photographers with many differing styles and approaches. It takes an alternative view on photographing the railway scene over the past 50 years. The book, called 50 Years of Phoenix will be published on 14th May 2021 with pre-orders now being taken – click on this link to order your copy: www.mortonsbooks.co.uk/product/view/productCode/15554

This doe spent the morning around the edge of our camp during breakfast. She kept an eye on our (limited) movements while enjoying the yummy bokeh forbs behind her. The foreground bokeh browse was less interesting at this time of year.

Brown Hare still out at first light.

The characteristic "making a man" helps the gopher to recognize dangers in good time. In an emergency, they warn with shrill whistles, similar to marmots.

Sometimes unwanted conditions give you some interesting shots. Old shot from Westminster, long exposure under the lights resulted into this... :)

Travelling in the remote mountains area of Kamiyama, Shikoku Island, I stopped to photograph this alert, protective dog, which was likely a cream Shikoku ken, based on location, but it could also be a cream Shiba Inu. It's hard to tell the difference between the two, and the distinctive white urajiro markings are not very visible on cream dogs.

Posting this final offering from the recent kingfisher series because it's my favourite.

Early morning walk.

Wrapping hay bales in black plastic seems to be an increasing trend over the last few years. I know for a fact this farmer didn’t use it in this meadow last year. Is it biodegradable? I don’t know, but it seems to be bucking the anti plastic trend, and given the thousands of years farmers haven’t wrapped their hay in plastic, why?

Should he wait for a peanut, or flee?

Alert but not alarmed.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and faving my photos. Its very much appreciated!

It was fascinating watching this moose move her ears in several directions to listen before she drank from the water in the ditch right beside our car. We were able to shoot this image from the car without disturbing her as she drank copious amounts of water!

Alert and ready for a new adventure.

Mom and her cubs were always on alert for other bears. The cubs would run to their mom and huddle together. Frequently the cubs would stand up to try to see the danger. The cubs couldn't be cuter!

Brown Bears - Katmai National Park

A large bull-snake (also known as a gopher snake) keeps a wary eye on this over-excited photographer. Over 4 feet long and 2 inches in diameter, it tolerated my antics quite patiently, even allowing me to shoot from just a couple feet away using the macro lens.

Cold day with a hang over.
