In addition to those early photographers who established their studios in fixed locations, many others worked as itinerants who plied their trade for a brief time in one locale before moving on to another. One such itinerant was the photographer and ambrotypist L.F.W. Mark, who advertised his services via a broadside that included blanks that could be filled in to note his current location. The handsomely appointed studio pictured at the top of Mark’s broadside was probably a far cry from the makeshift one he would have set up in a hotel or boarding house in the communities he visited.

An elegant early Victorian village church with gable roof, bell tower and gable porch. Major additions carried out have removed much of the side walls and altered internal perception of original church.
One of the earliest churches in South Australia. Foundation stone laid 22 May 1848. Donation of stone and free quarrying lessened the cost while cedar was used for most of the furnishing. First part of rectory built 1850 with later additions.
"Marryatville was founded in the forties by Mr George Brunskill," is stated in the brief account of that district in the interesting History of Kensington and Norwood issued by the corporation in 1903. As will be seen, Mr Brunskill gave the land for St Matthew's Church, and assisted materially in its erection. The following interesting notes have been supplied by Mrs Reid, formerly Miss Brunskill, who writes: — "My parents arrived in the ship Thomas Harrison in February, 1839. They settled at once on the land now Marryatville, and built their first home on the spot where Sir Edwin Smith afterwards lived, then a cottage at the east end of the section, and finally on the spot where Mrs Scarfe's house is. We finally left 20 years later, after selling most of the land. My father gave an acre of land for a church and parsonage, and was annoyed when the Bishop consecrated the ground for a burial ground.
One incident still in memory is seeing my father bring home a Norfolk Island pine in a flower pot, price 7/6! It is now an ornament to the neighbourhood in the Scarfe garden. I have heard my mother say that they used to light a fire to show my father the way home from town, so the place must have been thickly wooded!"
Sir Edwin Smith, whose hospitality at his beautiful home, "The Acacias," will long be remembered.
Mr George Brunskill's property ran from Portrush road (then called Glen Osmond road) to the further side of Ringmore road (now called Dudley Road).

Two names being floated as possible additions to President Obama’s cabinet are causing heartburn for Israeli leaders, who are already concerned about their relationship with the Obama administration.
Obama is expected to nominate Massachusetts senator and former presidential candidate John Kerry to take over as secretary of state and former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel to fill the role as secretary of defense. The choices point to a policy direction less sympathetic toward Israeli concerns and, in Hagel’s case, more of a willingness to live with a nuclear Iran.
From Israel’s point of view, there is less concern with Kerry as compared to Hagel, because the Massachusetts senator has a clean voting record on matters pertaining to Israel. Still, some are anxious over his possible appointment because he is viewed as being part of the Democratic party’s center-left wing, a group not exactly perceived as pro-Israel in their views.
The bigger problem, from the Israeli perspective, is Hagel, who has what the Jerusalem Post dubbed “a problematic voting record on Israel.” That record includes a 2001 vote against renewing the Iran-Libya sanctions act and a 2007 vote against putting the Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps on the U.S. list of terrorist organizations. Hagel, a Republican, also voted against slapping sanctions on Iran in 2008.
Hagel is also closely aligned with Stephen Walt, co-author of a book that bashes Israel, The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy. In a blog posting last week of the top five reasons Obama should choose Hagel, Walt wrote, “Unlike almost all of his former colleagues on Capitol Hill, he [Hagel] hasn’t been a complete doormat for the Israel lobby. In the summer of 2006, for example, he incurred the lobby’s wrath by calling for a joint cease-fire during Israel’s war with Hezbollah.” Walt also applauded Hagel for being “outspoken” in his call for the U.S. to be “more evenhanded in its handling of the peace process.”
Finally, Hagel’s views on a nuclear Iran are dismaying for Israeli leaders looking to evaluate the man who could be the next U.S. defense secretary. In his 2008 book “America: Our Next Chapter,” Hagel warned against isolating Iran over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program and floats the idea of the world having to live with a nuclear Iran.
God ultimately rules over the decisions made by men of power (Daniel 5), He often lets mankind reap the consequences of poor decisions or relationships. If President Obama is serious about improving and strengthening the relationship between the United States and Israel, he will take a hard second look at what Chuck Hagel and John Kerry bring to the table in regards to Israel and the Middle East. Pray for the president as he makes his choices to fill the critic positions of secretary of state and defense secretary, particularly as they relate to Israel and the ominous threat from a possible nuclear Iran.

A visit to Boddam Harbour to update my archives and capture the activity of this fine harbour 21st August 2022, I visit at least twice a year and have done for many years , there are some significant changes this year with work completed on the harbour wall , new signage and addition CCTV to increase security at the site .
Boots worn for many great years even during winter. Very pleased with it. Always enjoying side zips on boots. Very handy. Complementary tee's because i had to wait so long for the ba, RUSH LBD Lima. Soo happy with it. of course a pink knife for a lady like me :) Traser watch with Dutch flag inside.And of course Mechanix gloves.
Students and staff at Lake Trail Middle School will benefit from a safer learning and work environment with the announced upgrades to the facility. Upgrades include a new standalone child care facility with up to 60 spaces, as well as much-needed seismic upgrades.
The project is a partial replacement that will ensure the entire school will be seismically safe. Lake Trail Middle school was built in the 1950s, with significant additions in 1964 and 1999. Seismic reports indicate everything but the gymnasium is at risk of damage after a seismic event.

On my last visit to Wegerzyn, this little girl was sitting up near the entrance to the building. It was a pretty, sunny day and as I watched from a distance, everyone who walked by stopped to say hello to her. She was very friendly, but very thin and obviously hungry. There were a lot of sympathetic "awwww's", but people kept on walking. Nobody there volunteered to take her home. So I said to myself - if she's still there when I am finished, if no one else takes her home with them - then I'll take her home with me.
I'm amazed that 500 people could walk right by this little baby and not have the heart to help. Worse yet, its obvious that she was someone's cat and they just dumped her there. The vet said she has recently had a litter of 2 or 3 kittens (that were already weaned) and she had probably been dumped because she did not produce more. No chip, no Craig's list posting, nothing in the paper or on Facebook. Nobody's looking for her.
As far as introductions to the other beasts in the house - well, she stood her ground with the beagles. Most of the other dogs are oblivious. Shadow doesn't know what she is yet, and Cat is not impressed.
Shelly Wattenbarger makes films, performs, sculpts and teaches under the alias TrixySweetvittles. In addition to teaching undergraduate animation production courses, she runs a directed studies course focusing on bringing animation education to the community.
Her ceramic diaramapods will be shown at the Armory in Pasadena this fall. Screenings of her films “La Mujer Lagartija”, “Mermaids and Pickles” and “Dream Lover Fondue” include the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Holland Animation Festival and the SXSW film festival. Her one-woman puppet show “Pudinella Parsnip” was showcased in the 1998 Jim Henson International Puppetry Festival. Her professional experience includes serving as animation director for Nickelodeon’s “Blue’s Clues”. In addition, she has over ten years experience teaching animation to K-12 students and working with non-profit youth arts organizations. From 2003-2007, she chaired the animation department for the California State Summer School for the Arts. She was a site instructor for the Community Arts Partnership Sony Pictures Media Arts Program from 2004-2006 and the CAP/Inner-City Arts High School animation program in 2006.

Nearly 300 job seekers attended the recent Career Fair at College of DuPage. The fourth annual event featured more than 60 employers. In addition to the fair, the College’s Career Services office offered a number of pre-fair workshops to help job seekers fine tune their resumes and prepare for the interview process.
In an amazing last-minute addition to our Featured Makers list, Caine and his Arcade joined us in San Francisco for our April's Open MAKE: Trash event. Visitors waited in a long line to get their own Fun Pass, but had a blast playing with Caine's Arcade once they got there. Thanks for joining us, Caine!

Looking down on Seven Kings station (from an adjacent road) to show the new elevated walkways which were installed as part of a project to make the station platforms fully accessible.
Platform 4 (eastbound trains) also received a new stairway, which is in addition to the existing platform access direct to the ticket hall. It is a much longer walk when using this new facility.
Care is needed when filming here as there is a school playground on the other side of the station.

The Thai Police and Judges have been warned not to touch Dimitri in 2012. However, they did not listen to his warning. In addition to being halfway done the 365days project, we're also in the middle of figuring out what we're going to do with our living room - it's due for a re-organization.
That TV is awesome, but it causes a few logistic problems when trying to rearrange (pretty big) furniture in a small space.
I haven't done a room re-organization in a while.(actually, that's a lie - I do the front entrance very often) I could very easily get distracted and try to reorganize other rooms too!

The new addition to the Ft. Sam Theatre will seat 600 people and features:
-state-of-the-art lighting and acoustics
-a dance studio with the same wood floor as the stage
-a performers' lounge
-an audio/video mixing and recording studio
-Army Entertainment command suite and administrative offices
-an outdoor projector for projecting images against the addition's upper wall
-receiving ramps for moving sets from trucks to theatre
-catwalks rigged to the ceiling for production personnel
-an 80-foot “fly house” pulley system for quick set changes
Designed and outfitted with the latest equipment and features based on a design by RKJ, Inc. subcontractor construction team. Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon and Williams Theater Consultants, the same company that designed the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, contributed design concepts as well. Husband-and-wife theatre veterans Steve Smith and Nicole Coppinger brought their thespian background and insight to the project. The team proposed the theatre as the new home of the Army Soldier, and it will also play host to Operation Rising Star, USA Express, and concerts from touring music and entertainment stars.
Smith, technical director for the Army Soldier Show, has 20 years' experience in professional theatre and got his start working in Army Entertainment at Ft. Gordon. Coppinger, set designer for the Soldier Show, received her bachelor's degree in fine arts and has worked on Broadway in New York City. They worked with RKJ Construction, Inc., IMCOM Force Management Division and the Army Corps of Engineers to ensure that the new theatre would meet the standards necessary for a comprehensive training venue for budding artists and a Broadway-caliber theatre.
At the same time, all parties took great care to ensure that the front part of the original theatre, which contains the stage, main lobby, ticket box, original entrance and facade and VIP seating were restored to their authentic 1927 look. The carpet, paint, furniture, wood etching and silk banners hanging from the ceiling will all be restored or replicated as closely to the original as possible.
The project, which cost $18 million, started in early 2009 and will be completed in September 2011.

God, in addition to being Burning Man Camp Awesome style weekend, it was also apparently "be a big butch lesbian" weekend around here. Our stupid piece of crap bed that we bought at a furniture outlet store kept falling apart and making our mattresses collapse on the ground in the middle of the night giving all of us heart attacks. Sidenote: careful with those discount furniture stores. So we decided to strap on our power tools (pun totally intended) and make this bed our bitch. In less than an hour it was all fixed up and stable and now we can sleep in peace. And no one dies or lost an eye! Add this to our new Camp Awesome Annex (Lucy the trailer) and we've pretty much transformed into wild mountain lesbians.
Wow, the birds, are getting big around here! Here is our new baby, we do not know the sex yet, but as you can probably tell, this is a macaw. Meet "Magik" our new baby Bolivian Blue and Gold Macaw. Magic is 5 weeks old. He is already bigger than Zoe our new ekkie baby that is almost 8 weeks.
A WONDERFUL addition to our Zoo trip last week. This goreous Jaguar was at the Stone Zoo, in Stoneham, Massachusetts. The doors close to visits at 4:30pm and we arrived at the gates at 4:23pm. At the last minute, Tristen was determined that both his Grandmas got see both Zoos, so Jesse was able to manuever through rush hour traffic well enough to get us there just in time for a short visit. We actually ended up locked in --- and contemplated being able to stay in the Zoo over night. The security guy that unlocked the gates for us mentioned that night time is "kinda scarey -- the sounds are chilling" in the dark.
The Jaguar Lady above and below was actually just yawning --- patiently waiting for supper to be served. We've discovered that being in either Zoo around closing time is the BEST time --- the activity is phenomenally more intense --- and one sees interaction between human personnel and the animals that lets you know that there is alot of love and caring and respect going on.
