A Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new addition to the Hugh C. Bailey Science Building was held on the campus of Valdosta State University on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 9 AM.
The newest addition to the HITS facilities, the HITS Desert Horse Park in Thermal, California, is one of the largest hunter/jumper horse show venues in the United States and is the new home to the HITS Desert Circuit. This 230-acre, state-of-the-art facility officially opened in January of 2007 and boasts more than $20 million in improvements over the former location in Indio, including stabling for more than 3,400 horses and 14 competition rings, featuring a covered ring for all FEI World Cup Qualifiers offered at Thermal. The Desert Circuit has been a mainstay of West Coast competition for the past 20 years and offers classes ranging from Grand Prix show jumping to a selection of divisions for both the novice and experienced rider. In addition to offering more than 250 different classes each week, four of the 16 Grand Prix events at HITS Thermal are FEI World Cup qualifiers. Each year, more than 3,000 horses, 10,500 horsemen and 25,000 spectators attend HITS Thermal and more than $1.5 million in prize money is awarded.
The economic impact of the HITS Desert Circuit on the surrounding community is estimated to be more than $120 million, which reflects spending on food, lodging, living expenses and entertainment in the area during the eight-week circuit.

In addition to the dramatic large statues, there are many smaller caves with buddhas and other artifacts.

This is a Victrola Granada. This was one of the first four Orthophonic (made to play acoustically and electrically recorded 78's) Victrolas offered in 1925. The cheapest, was the Consolette, followed by the Colony, Granada, and the most expensive Credenza. As you can see, this one has been sitting for quite some time. This is how it looked before I "worked my magic."
To reflect the addition of a new £2 fare, all ‘Single’ wording (the remnants of the contravision can be made out) on the windscreens of the Stagecoach Magic Bus fleet in Manchester has been replaced with ‘From’.

I've been working on adding our own touch of color to our house. This is the first room to be repainted. Ceiling, crown, molding, walls. We replaced lights and added the fan during summer. The house was a flip/foreclosure, so it was a quick and dirty paint job prior, so this is a HUGE improvement.

My new shaker and whistle, prized purchases in Africa. I wanted to bring home a drum, but did not really have the room with all the camera equiptment I had. This shaker, made by David at our first orphanage that we visited, was played by the children and will be in the Inspire Me Africa film. It is now among my collection!
Hey, look at that! Aftermarket additions. Not long after I built them I modified this and the Orz to fire prjectiles. I used a simple shock absorber setup copied from the wild west sets.
These were built a good long while ago, shortly before my Lego dark ages. I've still got some of them around. Some day I'll endeavor to build the whole line of ships. These pics are a bit old too.

In the Golden Temple, in addition to a large queue of people standing in queue, there were a number of people sitting and listening to the religious songs by a group in front of the Akal Takht, and this photo captures part of the musical troupe.
The Golden Temple is one of the most famous monuments in Amritsar, in the state of Punjab in North India. It is the spiritiual headquarters of the Sikh religion, and is a very well visited place. Besides Sikhs, people from other religions visit the temple, it being an open place. The temple is also referred to as the Harmandir Sahib or the Darbar Sahib, and was built during the 16th century by the fifth Sikh Guru (completed in the year 1604), Guru Arjan Dev around a holy tank. Earlier to this, in 1577, the fourth Guru, Guru Ram Das ji excavated a tank which came to be known as Amritsar. The Harmandir Sahib symbolizes openess, and has four doors to depict the same. Over a period of time, modifications were done, such as the layering of gold over the dome by the ruler of the time, Maharajah Ranjit Singh.
The holy nature of the Golden Temple is also symbolized by the presence of the Holy Book of the Sikhs, the Guru Granth Sahib. The central structure of the Gurudwara is surrounded by a holy tank of water, with a causeway over this body of water. There are some restrictions for entering the site, such as the removal of shoes before entering (and washing ones feet in a small pool of water as well), covering the hair through a scarf or some other cloth, and ensuring that they show proper respect towards the central shrine.
The Golden Temple is also the location for a major military operation (Operation Blue Star in 1984), where the Indian Army went in against Sikh militants lead by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale inside the compound of the Golden Temple, with bullets and even machine guns inside the compound. The operation was a major operation, with the death of more than 500 people reported (including soldiers, militants and civilians). It was also very controversial, since this was seen as an attack on the spiritual center of Sikhs, and lead to some desertions in the army, and also an attack on the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, by her own Sikh bodyguards which resulted in her death.

My interest in pinhole photography continues with the purchase of a 10x8 pinhole camera. Shown here with Leica to show size of the wee beastie. The technical details are F320( 0.3mm) with a focal length of 96mm, which I believe is an angle of veiw roughly equivalent to 17mm on 35mm. The purchase of 2 double sided film holders cost far more than camera. I currently have no facility for scanning 10x8 so likley to be doing contact prints. The camera has a 49mm screw thread so pictured here with a orange filter installed. Saving up to purchase some film!!!! Although have seen some good results from flicker members using x-ray film which is said to be cheaper..........
