Ruins of Ishan Monastery (Turkey)

During the conversion of the church into a mosque, a wall (visible on this photo) was constructed between the west arm and the central bay, the south and west entrances were closed, a mihrab niche facing in the direction of Mecca was constructed within the closed southern entrance, and the northern annex was converted into a prayer hall.

This is the Great Cave in the Niah National Park (Borneo).

The wooden poles that can be seen hanging from the roof of the cave are (or were) used by birds-nest collectors to climb and harvest the birds-nests.

This is a 30 sec long exposure of the roof at midnight on the 4th of July. It was night but it looks like daytime!

The Public Health Service Hospital (PHSH) is located in the Presidio of San Francisco. It has been rehabilitated into luxury condos housing in 2010, and it is now called "Presidio Landmark Apartments".

Behind the snakes eye you can see the scar where the fangs and venom glands were surgically removed.

Kumbh Mela is the largest festival on Earth, taking place once every 12 years, with more than 50 million Hindu pilgrims gathering to pray and bathe in the holy Ganges river.

"Enjoy your ride, don't commit suicide" sign on the road to Darjeeling (India)

The funny part is that shortly after this sign, the road comes to an abrupt end due to a major landslide that happened in June 2010.

This sign obviously predates this landslide.

Although this sign is not signed, it looks very much like an old sign from BRO (the Border Roads Organisation), that built the mountains roads and bridges in West Bengal.

Military training - French Military Trucks in the desert (Djibouti)

Those army trucks are Citroën 46 F 4x4 FOM.

This is a medium truck formerly used by France, and possibly still used by Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, and Senegal. It is a vehicle designed for cross-country mobility, and has large tires and a strong suspension. At the front of the vehicle is a winch with a capacity of 5 tons and 60 meters of cable.

Procession of Naga Babas on the main bath day, at the Kumbh Mela 2013 festival near Allahabad (India).

Naga Sadhus (naked with their bodies covered with ritual Vibhuti sacred ash) converge toward the Ganges river to take the Holy bath at the Sangam. The Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the Yamuna and the Ganga (Ganges) rivers, and this is the holiest place to take the ritual baths during the Kumbh Mela.

This was the morning of Kumbh Maha Snan or main bathing day, also called Mauni Amavasya, which is the the most auspicious morning for taking the holy bath in the Ganges river.

Also called Naga babas, those naked sadhus are wanderers with no possessions.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, locally known as the "Toy Train", is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling (India). It is still operated by vintage British-built B Class steam locomotives. Operations between Siliguri and Kurseong have been temporarily suspended since 2010 following a Landslide at Tindharia (view photos of the landslide).

This is a Nihang Singh, the descendants of Guru Gobind Singh's army.

Sikh traditionally allow their hair to grow naturally as a symbol of respect for the perfection of God's creation. Their long hair is covered by a turban. For more information, go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kesh_(Sikhism).

The Golden Temple is the most sacred temple for the Sikh religion.

Robot Dance Party was definitely one the coolest performance I saw at this year's Burning Man.

A buch or Smily-Face robots with speakers were playing (together) old disco classics and dancing with hillarious moves. One woman was controling the music played by the robots, using a iPad and an FM transmitter. High-tech + Low-tech + Clever idea. This was a great monent!
