Sailing Stones on the Racetrack dry lake in Death Valley (California)
Sailing stones are rocks that move in long tracks on the smooth and perfectly flat surface of a dry lake, without human or animal intervention. The rocks are most likely propelled by strong winds while entrapped in floating ice sheets (or icebergs), after winter rains flooded the dry lake and made the mud soft and slippery.

Smiling Sadhu with bad teeth at the Kumbh Mela 2013 Hindu festival near Allahabad (India).
His face is covered with ritual white Vibhuti holy ash.
Kumbh Mela is the largest festival on Earth, taking place once every 12 years, with more than 50 million Hindu pilgrims gathering to pray and bathe in the holy Ganges river.
Thousands of Hindu devotees gather on the bank of the Ganges river at the Sangam where they will take the Holy Dip. The Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the Yamuna and the Ganga (Ganges) rivers, and this is the holiest place to take the ritual baths during the Kumbh Mela.

Overturned truck (India)
The driver fell asleep the night before. He was not seriously injured in the accident.
The wheels and axles have already been disassembled. The owner of the truck told me that the frame was bent, so they would recover everything they can from this truck (including the engine of course), and mount it on a new frame.

Wheelie - ZIL-131 Russian Logging truck - Phonsavan (Laos)
This russian-made ZIL-131 6x6 logging truck was loaded with very heavy and long logs, so the center of gravity of the gear was close to the rear wheels. When the truck had to pass through a small ditch on the side of the road, the front of the truck took up quite high. The truck was not going fast, but it needed a lot of power to pass that ditch (you can see the black smoke from the engine roaring). I was riding my motorbike on the road when I saw that. It was fun to watch and i was able to make a good capture of that amazing image!

Devprayag is a Hindu holy city in India, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet and become the Ganges river.
There is a Ghat (steps to the holy bath) at the Sangam, i.e. the exact point of the confluence. Hindu pilgrims take a holy dip right where the two sacred rivers meet.
In Hindu mythology and culture, the Bhagirathi (on the left, with the green water) is considered the source stream of the Ganges. However, in hydrology, the other headstream, Alaknanda (on the right, with the brown water), is considered the source stream on account of its great length and discharge.

Man jumping in front of "Compound I" mirror sculpture.
This installation had to be cleaned after each dust storm! (see the top part of it still covered with dust).

Lumberjacks rolling the trunk of a big pine tree they just cut (India)
This was on the mountain road to Gangotri, in the Bhagirathi valley. The lumberjacks did not have any power tool or chainsaw, just two-man crosscut saws and wood axes. Yet they were able to cut and move large pine trees. Trucks had to wait some times until they cleared the road.

Blood soup (tiết canh) is made with raw blood of ducks or geese (sometimes pigs), with peanuts and herbs on top. This is the typical protein-rich breakfast of the country people in Northern Vietnam, but is very dangerous because of the H5N1 bird flu virus. The Vietnamese government is promoting public awareness about the risks, but try to explain bird flu to the country people...

Sculpture of Kala (black) Bhairava (or Bhairab) in Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Kala Bhairava is the fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva associated with annihilation. He is one of the most important Hindu deities in Nepal.

Abandoned factory (San Francisco)
The Washington Packing Corporation was a tuna canning factory and operated in the early 1960's, until botulism killed several people who ate tuna canned in this factory.
