Fortress Days - an annual multi-day event since 1979. Most popular are the many steam engines from England but also the many historic vehicles such as cars, trucks, tractors, agricultural machines, military vehicles, fire engines and buses. Furthermore, activities such as a fair, model and parts market, mineral and fossil show, and organ concerts. There is also plenty to do on the water and in the air, such as short boattrips, a naval parade, helicopter demonstrations and a fireworks show. This with music from various bands and artists and with about 200.000 visitors in total a well attended event.

Parc des Félins (Est. 2006) is a zoological park in France dedicated to the breeding and conservation of wild members of the cat family. It is located in the commune of Lumigny-Nesles-Ormeaux in Seine-et-Marne. The park covers an area of 60 hectares (150 acres). The park is divided into four large sections with various enclosures: European, African, American and Asian. Of the 41 recognized species of felines in the world, the park has 30 different species and subspecies, with a total of 140 cats. This includes species like cheetahs, lions, Servals, wild cats, leopards, Caracals, white lions, black panthers, a Katanga lion, jaguars, Ocelots, margays, Geoffroy's cats, Oncillas, pumas and bobcats. The jaguarundis which are very rare in European zoos. Most recent addition are black footed cats.
In addition to the felids, there is a large lemur population in the park. Many lemur species are represented, including the ring-tailed lemur, the red ruffed lemur, the crowned lemur and the red-bellied lemur. Many of the lemurs roam freely about the park, and occasionally interact with visitors.

The Uerdingen railbus (in German: Uerdinger Schienenbus), the common term for the multiple units which were developed by the German firm of Waggonfabrik Uerdingen for the Deutsche Bundesbahn and private railways after the Second World War.
These vehicles were diesel-powered, twin-axle railbuses of light construction. These vehicles were employed in passenger train duties on branch lines where steam or diesel train operations were less profitable. A total of 1,492 power cars were built from 1950 to 1971; and the total number of units, including trailer and driving cars, was 3,306. The railbus, much loved by passengers, was also nicknamed the Rote Brummer (Red Buzzer) because of the loud noise it made when driving.

It attracts more and more visitors over the years, children win some nice prizes with the raffle tickets and the atmosphere is very nice. Prinsenhuis (Est 1664, monument) - built in the mid-seventeenth century as a home for the "commies", an official, and lodging of the Committed Councils of the States of Holland and West Friesland who supervised Hellevoetsluis on behalf of the Committed Councils of Holland charged with the supervision, construction, maintenance and operation of the port and Fortress and collecting taxes. With building included living- and guest rooms on the first floor, and a meeting room, kitchen and pantry on the ground floor.
From 1963 to 1966, with the support of funds from the flood disaster (Watersnoodramp), the restoration was carried out to bring this Admiralty building back to its original 17th-century Dutch Classical style. The layout and interior have also been adapted, such as a new council chamber on the first floor and many original decorations have been restored. Today we see a stylish facade of bricks with the original 17th-century cross frames and a stately landing. With on either side the outbuildings such as the 'De Ruyterhuis' and 'Het Kleine Kerkje', formerly warehouses and rifle storage and workshops, this as a whole gives a stately and appropriate historical appearance.
The monumental building is still in use by the municipality, with the main public role being the use of the council chamber as a wedding hall.

Details
Haringvlietdam (Est. 1971) - the Haringvliet sluices are a construction that closed off the estuary of the Haringvliet, Netherlands, as part of the Delta Works. Instead of damming 17 sluices were constructed in order to be able to let in salt water to prevent freezing of the rivers Meuse and Rhine and to drain these rivers in case of flood. The sluices have two doors each of which the door on the sea side is the lowest. This has been done to mitigate the effect of the waves on the doors and the construction.
There are plans to open several sluices permanently to restore the estuary function of the Haringvliet and to improve the ecological situation in the river Meuse and Rhine. It will allow the return of brackish water and the main route for migrating fish.

The traditional Christmas tree burning in Hellevoetsluis is always a very nice event. It starts with the Christmas tree hunt for the children to earn lottery tickets. The municipality as an organizer collects about 1000 Christmas trees that are burned as a large fire under the supervision of the fire brigade on the Zuidfront or Land van Paling. It attracts more and more visitors over the years, children win some nice prizes with the raffle tickets and the atmosphere is very nice. It is actually also the warm welcome of the year, especially with the glow of the fire of 1300 degrees Celsius.

Hellevoetsluis - Droogdok Jan Blanken
Droogdok Jan Blanken - the Dry dock Jan Blanken is a national monument built for the Dutch navy between 1798 and 1822 (architect Jan Blanken) in Hellevoetsluis for the construction and maintenance of ships. Equipped with new techniques such as a pump house (rebuilt in 2001, now a restaurant) with a James Watt steam engine and hundreds of piles were driven into the ground for the dock foundation. The dock has a ship door (type of lock, French invention), and devided in a maintenance and construction section, the walls of which are constructed as an amphitheater to facilitate easy ship maintenance. The naval frigate Euridice was the first ship to be docked.
After the departure of the Dutch Navy until 1970, in operation, completely restored in 2005, and now a museum with the still fully functioning dock for maintenance on ships.
