Pieke oet de Stokstraot - beeld van Batteraof Pieke, zittend op een muurtje, met naast hem zijn hond Maoke. Pieke houdt een stuk zeep in zijn handen. Het zijn twee figuren die uit het boek 'Sjengske' van Bér Hollewijn komen.
De straat waar het beeld staat was in de Romeinse tijd al bebouwd. Later verpauperde de straat. In de negentiende en eerste helft twintigste eeuw werd de straat vooral bewoond door armen, die vaak met meerdere families één verdieping van een pand bewoonden. In de jaren vijftig waren de huizen in de Stokstraat krotten en heerste er soms bittere armoede bij de families die er woonden. Na een zeer ingrijpende renovatie waarin gevels van huizen van elders in de stad werden gebruikt was deze buurt voor deze mensen absoluut veel te duur.

Dolphins at "Théatre de Poseidon", a very nice show too and some of the very few animals in the parc. After more then 30 years it finally came to an end, instead there is a show with humans, no feeding permitted.

One of the must visit theme parks is "Futuroscope" or "Parc du Futuroscope". A theme park based upon multimedia, cinematographic futuroscope and audio-visual techniques. A very popular destination in the Périgord Noir, maybe because modern history has largely passed it by. Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. The old centre consists of impeccably restored stone buildings, with 77 protected monuments it's on France's tentative list for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Largely car-free with lots of narrow ancient streets and small stores, an absolute pleasure to walk through and to discover.

The Vestingdagen (Fortress Days) in Hellevoetsluis, an annual multi-day event since 1979. Very popular and with lots of activities in and around the former naval base of the Netherlands. With many historic and vintage ships and vehicles, steam engines, fair and market, various types of demonstrations in the air and ofcourse on the water. Also, lots to do like short boattrips, visit the various musea, watch the naval parade and fireworks show late at night. With about 200.000 visitors in total a well attended event.

The traditional Christmas tree burning in Hellevoetsluis is always a very nice event. It starts with the Christmas tree hunt for the children to earn lottery tickets. The municipality as an organizer collects about 1000 Christmas trees that are burned as a large fire under the supervision of the fire brigade on the Zuidfront or Land van Paling. It attracts more and more visitors over the years, children win some nice prizes with the raffle tickets and the atmosphere is very nice. It is actually also the warm welcome of the year, especially with the glow of the fire of 1300 degrees Celsius.

Markthal - Restaurant Wah Nam Hong
Markthal Rotterdam(Est. 2014) - a residential and office building with a market hall underneath. It has the largest glass-window cable structure in Europe. The inside of the building is adorned with an 11.000 m2 artwork by Arno Coenen, named Hoorn des Overvloeds (Horn of Plenty). The artwork shows strongly enlarged fruits, vegetables, seeds, fish, flowers and insects. It was made using digital 3D-techniques, printed on 4000 perforated aluminum panels and now on the inside of the hall. Some call it The largest artwork in the world or The Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.

Haringvlietdam (Est. 1971) - the Haringvliet sluices are a construction that closed off the estuary of the Haringvliet, Netherlands, as part of the Delta Works. Instead of damming 17 sluices were constructed in order to be able to let in salt water to prevent freezing of the rivers Meuse and Rhine and to drain these rivers in case of flood. The sluices have two doors each of which the door on the sea side is the lowest. This has been done to mitigate the effect of the waves on the doors and the construction.
There are plans to open several sluices permanently to restore the estuary function of the Haringvliet and to improve the ecological situation in the river Meuse and Rhine. It will allow the return of brackish water and the main route for migrating fish.

Chateau des Milandes - One of the most romantic castles has to be Château-des-Milandes (Est. 1489). It has to forms of defence like regular castles. In medieval history it was the former manor mainhouse of the lords of Coumont, owners of the nearby Chateau Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. The castle is renovated between 1900 and 1914, between 1940-1968 inhabited and owned by Josephine Baker. Nowadays it's a well preserved caste, a monument historique, jardin remarkable, with a brassery, bird of prey show and a unique museum and exhibition dedicated to Josephine Baker.

Rupert the Bear is a character in a 1920 British children's book written by Mary Tourtel.
First appearing in the Daily Express newspaper on 8 November 1920. The comic strip is published daily in the Daily Express, with many of these stories later being printed in books, and every year since 1936 a Rupert annual has also been released.
Rupert became a popular children's hero and toys were soon introduced, especially popular in the 1960s. Well-known is the classic Rupert bear, with his red sweater, blue pants and white socks. And Rupert has a number of friends, including Bill Badger, Edward Trunk, Winky the Owl and Bungo the Bear. The Rupert toy bears from the 1960s are now collector's items, they are rare and expensive.

Fortifications - during the time of the United Provinces Hellevoetsluis was the naval port of the Admiralty of de Maze (Rotterdam) and could accommodate an entire fleet within a special land-enclosed fortress with harbour and dockyard facilities, accessible through a canal. Thanks to its strategic situation the town grew from the beginning of the 17th century to be the homeport for the Dutch war fleet. In later years the port was fortified more and more and Hellevoetsluis therefore became a unique combination of fortified town and naval port.
The Admirals Maarten Tromp, Michiel de Ruyter and Piet Heyn had their home base here and in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution William III of Orange's invasion fleet departed from the port.

Many small fishing vessels really add color to the harbour. Many of those in a typical design frequently seen at the Côte d'Azur of the French Riviera. Fishermen still go out to the Mediterranean sea for various catch of the day portions. Overall the harbor looks like time has no great influence, so little had changed because it's almost the same view just like the vintage photos and paintings.
