The lighthouse of Hellevoetsluis, it's location is a famous landmark of Dutch national history in history a 17 century naval base of the Admiralty of the Maze. It is the same pier where the silver fleet of Piet Hein was disembarked in 1629, the journey with Michiel de Ruyter to Chatham began (Raid on the Medway in 1667) and on November 11, 1688, William III and his fleet began their journey to England, to ascend the throne with his wife Mary, and to become King of England, Scotland, and Ireland.

The sound of the roaring 45cc one cylinder engine, the long leather jackets, leather headgear, this time it is a colorful parade of vintage Solex old-timers. It's a nice group of Solex drivers who enjoy a nice trip along the dunes and forrests of Voorne.

They also could have been a group of VW Beetles, Delorians, Zundapp, Porches, historic old-timers or other motorized clubs. Many enjoy one of the many beautiful routes on the island, with enough reasons to use and enjoy... the breaks.

Oostvoorne - The French company Solex became known for the bicycles with auxiliary motors, which it produced between 1946 and 1988 under the name Vélosolex, abbreviated to Solex in the Netherlands. Production of 45 cc clip-on motorcycles began in 1946, a small moped with an engine block that drives the front wheel via a friction wheel. To date, the Solex is still in production and is particularly popular in tourism as rented vintage, easy-to-handle mopeds.

Heavy storm at the Haringvlietdam on the seaside, very strong wind, huge waves and we could hardly stand on our feet. The sluices of this dam have two doors each of which the door on the sea side is the lowest. This has been done to mitigate the effect of the waves on the doors and the construction..

Haringvlietdam

Haringvlietdam (Est. 1971) - the Haringvliet sluices are a construction that closed off the estuary of the Haringvliet, Netherlands, as part of the Delta Works. Instead of damming 17 sluices were constructed in order to be able to let in salt water to prevent freezing of the rivers Meuse and Rhine and to drain these rivers in case of flood. The sluices have two doors each of which the door on the sea side is the lowest. This has been done to mitigate the effect of the waves on the doors and the construction.

There are plans to open several sluices permanently to restore the estuary function of the Haringvliet and to improve the ecological situation in the river Meuse and Rhine. It will allow the return of brackish water and the main route for migrating fish.

Château de Beynac - Château de France

Château de Beynac (Est. 12th century) - built by the barons of Beynac. Perched on top of a limestone cliff with double crenellated walls, moats and barbican. During the Hundred Years' War the Dordogne was the border between France and England. The fortress at Beynac was in French hands and on the opposite bank of the river, the Château de Castelnaud was held by the English. The Dordogne region was the theatre of numerous struggles for influence, rivalries and occasionally battles but the castles fell more often through ruse and intrigue rather than by direct assault. The Château de Beynac is where Richard Cœur de Lion, King of England (1189–1199) died. Nowadays it's one of the best preserved castles, a monument of history and absolutely worth to visit.

Haar or sea fret along the dunes. Haar is typically formed over the sea and is blown to the land by the wind. This commonly occurs when warmer moist air moves over the relatively cooler North Sea causing the moisture in the air to condense, forming haar.

Turning a rugged Cowboy Steak into a masterpiece requires the right crust and a bit of modern magic. This beautifully marbled cut, essentially a bone-in ribeye, has been generously seasoned and prepped for a surprisingly effective tool: the airfryer. While traditionalists might stick to the grill, the circulating hot air mimics a convection oven, rendering the fat perfectly while locking in those rich, beefy juices. This specific preparation method has surged in popularity because it provides a consistent, high-heat environment that caramelizes the exterior without the guesswork of an open flame. High-quality beef like this contains oleic acid, the same heart-healthy fat found in olive oil, making it as flavorful as it is satisfying. It’s a bold fusion of classic culinary tradition and contemporary food preparation.

Steakhouse-quality results used to require industrial infrared broilers, but technology has finally brought that power to the home kitchen counter.

Hellevoetsluis: Lichtschip 12 Shipping

The Lichtschip 12 Noord Hinder (Est. 1963) is the last lightship built in the Netherlands and today it still is in it's original state. After many years of service in any weather at the North Sea along the Dutch coast it was decommissioned on March 21, 1994. Nowadays it's a museum ship maintained and run by commited volunteers in the "Fortresse Holland - Maritiem Kwartier" harbour "Het Groote Dok" in Hellevoetsluis. Visitors can take a good look in every section of the ship and for those who dare climb the high tower to enjoy the unique historical harbour view. It still sails to events elsewhere assisted by two strong tugs.

Some ship details - the Noord-Hinder is 45.4 meters long, 8.35 meters wide, draft 3.2 meters, displacement 510 tons and was equipped with a few small diesel engines. The light, in an 18-meter tower above sea level, had a range of 27 nautical miles. The light from the 4,200-watt lamp was amplified by a Fresnel lens and emitted 2 flares every 10 seconds. It was also equipped with a radar beacon and fog horn.
