Scheveningen: Art Photography
Sprookjesbeelden aan Zee (Fairy Tale Sculptures by the Sea) - a free sculpture terrace on the boulevard of Scheveningen. The sympathetic sculptures by the American sculptor Tom Otterness are part of "Museum Beelden aan Zee" behind it. The more than twenty works of art depict various fairy tales, such as those of Gulliver, Hansel and Gretel, Tin Soldier, Moby Dick, Pinocchio and Hans Brinker.
Most striking is the gigantic Haringeter that has become the icon of the new Scheveningen boulevard. In total, the sculpture terrace comprises three large and twenty smaller bronze works of art with a skin of shiny patina, playfully placed on the boulevard, on islands and banisters. For photographers the glossy sculptures are a popular subject, not easy to isolate from the wandering crowds on this boulevard, but especially to capture these sculptures with some nice contrasting clouds or a sunset in the background.

Steam engines on tour. Steam engines in and around the historic city center, once they have come to a halt in front of the Town Hall, you can really see how impressive they are. Hissing, big and heavy, the smell of burning coal, from time to time the loud whistling of the steam whistles that could be heard far and wide. This steam whistle sound has been the sign that it was Vestingdagen for several editions of this event.
Hellevoetsluis has no direct link in the past with steam engines, at most with the Pomphuis of the Jan Blanken Dry Dock, the Machinistenschool or later a steam train connection with Rotterdam. Nevertheless, these British steam engines were seen and experienced as a top attraction.

Steamlocomotive Moortje (Est. 1907).
.
Moortje is the second locomotive of the Efteling Steam Train Company. Her name refers to her black-colored appearance. It dates from 1907 or 1908 and was put into use at the Efteling in 1974.
Moortje was built in 1907 or 1908 by Orenstein & Koppel, a factory of narrow gauge systems that supplied a lot to the mining and brick industry. The train with serial number 2697 was delivered to the contractor Piette & Joseph. and came into the hands of a contractor in Genval, Belgium.
When the Efteling bought her in 1970, it was little more than a rusty pile of old iron. Was first renovated by the Technical Service of the Efteling. A train set was built at the front behind Moortje, with four open wagons, just like Aagje had. In addition, two closed variants were added, reminiscent of the Vicinaux-like carriages of the Belgian local railways. She was put into service in the 1974 season.
In 1987 a major overhaul followed at the Tilburg workshop of the Dutch Railways. Exceptional because a locomotive owned by a private organization is being maintained by the NS. Moortje rode her laps over the route again a year later. A commemorative plaque on the boiler mentions the place and date of completion of the overhaul: "Nederlandse Spoorwegen, revision 15 March 1988, Hoofdwerkplaats Tilburg". So per locomotive a very nice piece of industrial heritage that is still running.

Thorn - since the 12th century, they served secular matters and formed the government of a truly sovereign miniature principality, the smallest independent state in the German Holy Roman Empire, approximately 250 x 250 metres. Relaxing and curative power of mineral waters. The Thermes de Spa is a very nice facility to enjoy a relaxing Spa with inside and outside pools filled with water direct from the mineral springs.

Thermes de Spa - in the 16th century, the commercialization of the thermal baths began and many spa guests came to Spa. The first bathing establishment was built in 1764 and the city became known as a health resort. A health resort (German: Kurort, English: spa) is a tourist resort that focuses on relaxation and recreation, but with a medical emotional value. A stay in a spa is considered beneficial for health due to medicinal springs, in this case the iron and carbonated water of the thermal baths of Spa, but also the healthy air. In Nivezé there are three springs of which the water is used for the thermal baths of Spa: Marie-Henriette spring, Tonnelet spring and Wellington spring. The term Spa has become a generic term for spa tourism in English and some other languages.
In 1764, the first bathing establishment was built in Spa and the city became known as a health resort, so in 1774 the second casino in Europe was also opened. In the second half of the 19th century, the thermal infrastructure was built as it still exists today. Among the many mainly affluent visitors, the international bourgeoisie, we see names such as Victor Hugo, Tsar Peter the Great, Alexandre Dumas and Meyerbeer.

Hellevoetsluis - During the time of the United Provinces Hellevoetsluis was the naval port of the Admiralty of de Maze (Rotterdam) and could accommodate an entire fleet within a special land-enclosed fortress with harbour and dockyard facilities, accessible through a canal. Thanks to its strategic situation the town grew from the beginning of the 17th century to be the homeport for the Dutch war fleet. In later years the port was fortified more and more and Hellevoetsluis therefore became a unique combination of fortified town and naval port. The Admirals Maarten Tromp, Michiel de Ruyter and Piet Heyn had their home base here and in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution William III of Orange's invasion fleet departed from the port.

Sleep tight my lovely cat (Louis XIV/Netherlands ) - Sleep tight my lovely cat. Loudly purring on his cozy blanket, he drifts far away to cats dreamland. His legs show his adventures with small jerks, his beak shows little movements. From time to time he twists to get even deeper into his blanket, he is really at home. He feels safe and satisfied because he also knows that his owners are very close.

Hellevoetsluis: Weather Photography
The Canal through Voorne is a canal in the Dutch province of South Holland on the island of Voorne. It was dug by thousands of workers by hand, using shovel, wheelbarrow and horse power between Hellevoetsluis and the village of Nieuwesluis, which disappeared in the 1960s, and was completed in 1829. It is 10.5 km long, over 30 m wide and 5.30-5.70 m deep.
The canal was dug as a connection between the Meuse and the North Sea for trade and industry and was widely used in the 19th century by ships transporting coal, iron and other goods. When the Nieuwe Waterweg was completed in the 20th century, the canal lost its function with a much wider and deeper shipping route. The canal is now a popular place for recreation, especially fishing.

Puerto Dorado village overrun by pirates in search of treasure. The first sight is the town square, where some pirates have kidnapped the mayor, Carlos, and threaten to drown him in a well if he doesn't divulge the location of the treasure. Carlos' wife tells him to be brave and not talk; she is shot at as Carlos is repeatedly dunked in the water while several other captive city officials look on. Captain Jack Sparrow is seen hiding behind some dresses. An auction scene follows, where a pirate auctions off loot from the townspeople to other pirates. A redheaded female pirate is more interested in the town's rum supply, as are the bidders, who ignore the chickens that are currently offered for bidding.
In a next scene, pirates run around chasing women holding trays of food, and two foolish buccaneers who have stolen snacks are chased by an angry woman holding a rolling pin. Just beyond is the "Pooped Pirate" drunkenly waving a map and key to a treasure vault, boasting that Captain Jack Sparrow will never see it. Jack is hiding in a barrel just behind him, popping out and getting a good look at the map over the pirate's shoulder. Off to the side, a pirate by the name of "Old Bill" wants to share rum with a group of terrified alley cats.
Carefree, tipsy pirates succeed in ravaging the town and setting it aflame, filling the night air with an orange glow.
