The beautiful blue and green hues of Lake Huron fringe the shore line where these strange rock formations have been formed by the waves crashing against the limestone, eventually eroding them into these unique shapes.
At one time, there were three flowerpots which had formed on the island, but in 1903 one of them could not holdfast any longer and fell, crashing into pieces. Tours to Flowerpot Island leave from Little Tub Harbour in Tobermory, Ontario at different times throughout the day from the onset of May through to the middle of October.

As part of my visit to Winchester Cathedral I took the opportunity to ascend the tower. The climb begins at an external door of the south transept and the continues up and along the east side of the transept at clerestorey level. Then the tower itself is reached via the tightest spiral staircase I've ever encountered (and I've been up a fair few!).
The Norman central tower at Winchester is one of the oldest and shortest of any English cathedral but still affords a fine view over the city and surrounding area (alas the weather only improved just after I came down!). Within it are two chambers, the belfry and the ringers chamber below. The stonework within both is highly finished and detailed suggesting the tower interior was originally meant to be seen from below as a kind of lantern (presumably a higher storey was envisaged for the bells but failed to materialise owing to the cathedral's poor foundations). In fact the lower storey was open until the 17th century when the present decorative vaulting over the crossing was installed.
The tour finishes with a walk along the inside of the nave roof, allowing a view of the vaulting from above as well as evidence of the nave's previous Norman incarnation, prior to the 14th century remodelling.

I looked back at the Rampart Lakes basin. The lakes and nearby mountains were smothered in fog but the beautiful tarn we hiked past earlier in the afternoon was visible. Also my sister and her friend are seen starting the climb on the lower left center. At times, the path was so steep my sister feared she would topple over backwards!

"Sunrays, leaning on our southern hills and lighting
Wild cloud-mountains that drag the hills along,
Oft ends the day of your shifting brilliant laughter
Chill as a dull face frowning on a song.
Ay, but shows the South-west a ripple-feathered bosom
Blown to silver while the clouds are shaken and ascend
Scaling the mid-heavens as they stream, there comes a sunset
Rich, deep like love in beauty without end." ~ G. Meredith
