Common Buzzard [Buteo buteo]
Unseated from his (?) perch on this tall conifer, the buzzard took off, almost vertically, as we were driving past.
I love seeing these majestic creatures!

This was the last evening of our short skiing stay in South Tyrol. We had 4 days of glorious sunshine, fantastic snow, ideal conditions for sporty winter activities and relaxation. On the left you can see the Schlern massif, which ends with the Santner Peak, which was first ascended in July 1880 by Johann Santner, a Tyrolean mountaineer. In the valley below is the beautiful village of Seis/Siusi and in the back the mountain range of the Merano and Vinschgau Alps.

Close up of a peak of Korengesan showing the transition of vegetation with altitude. Dakekanba birch and other shrubs are gradually replaced by shrubs of Haimatsu or Siberian dwarf pine along with the fading of autumn colour.
The altitude of the highest peak of Korengesan is 2,766m, which is above the forest limit of around 2,500 m in Kita Alps.
There is a controversy as to the definition of forest limit in Japan, which hinges on the categorisation of Siberian dwarf pine.
Haimatsu or Siberian dwarf pine is less than 1 m tall. If it is categorised as a tree, the forest limit would be pulled up to 3,000 m.
On my way back to the house I saw this and had to pull over...at a local cemetary. I've always believed that acsending rays were the angels ladders earthbound to help and save. Descending rays were ladders for lost souls to find there way home.

ELYSIUM - Dude flipflop (gianni)
This is slightly weird one. It is just to give an opposite to this my old image . But i will come back to normal one this afternoon;-)

Inside the Abbott School in Castine, Maine.
Abbott School
Castine High School, 1927The stately Abbott School was built by the Castine School District in 1859, in the then-fashionable Italianate Style, to function as a high school. The building also served as the Eastern State Normal School from 1867 to 1873, and closed its educational doors in 1961. The building was privately owned for several decades, and on April 29, 1994, the Castine Historical Society signed the agreement for purchase of the building. In July of 1994, the Society, embarked on a three year campaign to raise $400,000 for the purchase and renovation of the Abbott School as the new home of the Society.
By December 31, 1994, renovations had begun, and the Abbott School’s grand opening as the home of the Castine Historical Society occurred on July 1, 1996. The building housed both exhibits and the administrative offices until 2015, when the administrative offices and archives moved to the newly restored Grindle House, located next door.
The ground floor is used for exhibitions devoted to the history of Castine which are open to the public without charge. Future plans call for expanded exhibition galleries to accommodate both permanent and changing exhibitions.
