My first clinic was the Glacier Preparation course on the Mer de Glace Glacier, which I had not visited before. Read my report on the clinic at www.hikinginfinland.com

After coming down a steep set of steps we encounter a steep set of steps going up to the next tower. One has to imagine that the guards patrolling the wall were in excellent physical condition.

One of my best all day. It's amazing the detail and color the old Takumar 135 can bring out. I'll still take old school manual prime lenses over a kit lens any day. You don't see details like this with kit lens, you need glass.

The steam engine (No.4, 'Snowdon') was made in 1896, the tiny little carriages were also ancient.

This rather magnificent passenger fitted in perfectly. I had previously spotted her outside the station and couldn't believe my luck when we were assigned to the same compartment.

I was delighted that she had eschewed Gore-Tex and climbing gear for something rather more elegant.

I have done a little edit and replaced this to remove the woman who was previously visible behind.

The Bruce Peninsula-Tobermory

The beautiful blue and green hues of Lake Huron fringe the shore line where these strange rock formations have been formed by the waves crashing against the limestone, eventually eroding them into these unique shapes.

At one time, there were three flowerpots which had formed on the island, but in 1903 one of them could not holdfast any longer and fell, crashing into pieces. Tours to Flowerpot Island leave from Little Tub Harbour in Tobermory, Ontario at different times throughout the day from the onset of May through to the middle of October.

I looked back at the Rampart Lakes basin. The lakes and nearby mountains were smothered in fog but the beautiful tarn we hiked past earlier in the afternoon was visible. Also my sister and her friend are seen starting the climb on the lower left center. At times, the path was so steep my sister feared she would topple over backwards!
