As I was driving on the dried up river bank, the Falcon flew onto a nearby rock. It moved from alert state to highly relaxed state with one leg up all the while till the end when it flew away after being chased away by a Marsh Harrier.

Do You Approach Nature as a Mere Observer
Seeking to capture its sights and sounds

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning while walking around the summit area of Cinder Cone along the namesake trail. This is located in Lassen Volcanic National Park with a view looking to the southwest and to Lassen Peak (which I had hiked the day prior). My thought in composing this image was to angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward and capture a sweeping view from the elevated high ground where I was situated. My intention was to convey a vista across the expansive open area in front of me, with Lassen Peak situated slightly above the image center in the distance. While I did work to minimize what I felt was the perceived negative space of the blue skies above, I found the resulting color contrast to be complementary to the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.

The Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay was a meatpacking plant located at Fray Bentos, Uruguay, on the Uruguay River bank.
In 1924, the Vestey group purchases the old installations of Liebig Extract of Meat Company and the production goes on under a new name.
During its peak period, El Anglo had 5,000 workers whose ranks included English, Belgians, Russians, Spanish and Italians. It finally closed in 1979 after Europe and the United States had cut back their purchases from Latin America. Small brick houses with thick walls running along the river's edge in Fray Bentos form the "Barrio Anglo," a city-within-a-city where meatpacking workers lived that featured a hospital, a school, a social club and a football squad.[1]

As I walk through the forest, I hear that sweet song that can’t be mistaken by non other than the white-throated sparrow. It takes a break from foraging and I snap its photo…
As the Sun rises over the Dornoch Firth Class 66s with 414 in Powerhaul livery on the stops and 534 on the other end with 5 Autobalasters sandwiched inbetween ready for a week of Far North Ballast drops. With this working always a pair of 37s Iam afraid this will be the new normal now, however nonetheless a picture for everyone with the inclusion of the Scania T cab and the Komatsu PC 390 excavator surrounded by the beautiful Scottish scenery what's not to like.
As I was driving down a country road on the outskirts of Abilene, TX, I saw this abandoned horse trailer in a field. These vehicles probably cost a fortune new, so it's a wonder that this one is abandoned.
As long as we're hanging around, Penn Central westbound TOFC approaches "River Branch" tower behind two SD45 (6128-6193.) From where the last pair of postings were taken, I have just turned around to face what was behind me. And that, in all its grass covered glory, was the NYC. Corrections are welcome - C&O was in here too, so I think there were three drawbridges over the Calumet River behind me. This train looks hot, but the "Twentieth Century" it is not!
As I drove around the South of Ireland I couldn't help but think that the fact that Irish sheep and cattle get to enjoy these landscapes on a regular basis may just explain why Irish cheese, specially Irish Cheddar, is such a delicious thing.

Projetado pelo arquiteto valenciano Santiago Calatrava, integra-se no plano urbanístico iniciado em 1996 ao longo do antigo leito do rio Túria. A estrutura, com aproximadamente 75 metros de altura e mais de 40 000 metros quadrados, distingue-se pela imponente cobertura laminada em forma de pluma ou capacete, sustentada por dois apoios e revestida a mosaico cerâmico branco (trencadís), técnica de tradição mediterrânica. No interior, alberga quatro salas principais, entre as quais a Sala Principal, com 1 412 lugares, destinada à ópera, e o Auditori. Sede da Orquestra da Comunidade Valenciana, o edifício enfrentou, ao longo dos anos, problemas de desprendimento do revestimento exterior, exigindo intervenções de conservação. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, which opened on October 8, 2005, is the building dedicated to the performing arts and opera within the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències complex in Valencia. Designed by the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, it is part of the urban development plan launched in 1996 along the former riverbed of the Turia River. The structure, approximately 75 meters high and covering more than 40,000 square meters, is distinguished by its imposing laminated roof shaped like a feather or helmet, supported by two pillars and clad in white ceramic mosaic (trencadís), a traditional Mediterranean technique. Inside, it houses four main halls, including the Main Hall, with 1,412 seats, designed for opera, and the Auditori. Home to the Valencian Community Orchestra, the building has faced, over the years, problems with the exterior cladding peeling away, requiring conservation work. The image captures the complex at dusk, reflected in the water features surrounding the architectural complex.
As a photographer, a common theme I like to find is minimal geometry and patterns in nature or man-made objects.

I'm not actually 100% sure of the ID on this. It seems to be a grey shrike thrush, but somehow didn't look exactly like one. Maybe it was just the light as I had to do a real rescue job with post processing to bring out the detail in what was a backlit shot.
As small as they are, chipmunks can store a lot of food in their cheeks. This particular chipmunk was busy at work bringing leaves and nuts back to its hole in preparation for winter
As Winter is nowhere in sight here I'm sharing one from a month ago. Beautiful sunset was topped by the stunning fall colors of the birch trees. Amazing Indian summer!

Today we went to the Four Mile Beach north of Santa Cruz, California. It was a beautiful afternoon, no clouds. I took this long exposure shot in the blue hour 30 minutes after sunset using an ND8 neutral density filter on the vintage Dream Lens.
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and the curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

As a solitary cantor in the twilight, the blackbird sings his cantata for the awakening garden. In the gentle half‑light, his clear phrases weave through the silence, each one separated by brief, solemn pauses. His recurring themes take on a fresh, expectant glow in the morning, and a warm, almost sacred calm in the evening — as if twice a day he offers a small liturgical composition to the rhythm of nature.
As I was changing locations along the shoreline at Mono Lake, the sky started to get some color in the clouds. The color never did get any better as the sun went down. I was able to set up the tripod and get a few pictures of this composition as the sun set. As you can see, I wasn't the only one enjoying the view. The photographer in the foreground gives you a scale to compare the height of the tufas.
As though the carved heads outside and the zigzag carving of the tower arch were not enough, each of the dozen or so columns supporting the arches in the nave have rich carving on their capitals. In astonishingly good condition, they're both varied and imaginative, mostly featuring creatures in a style I would describe as Celtic. These may be leopards, or some mythical beast, though I don't suppose there was much chance of a stonemason having seen a real leopard in the 12th century.
As a photographer, a common theme I like to find is minimal geometry and patterns in nature or man-made objects.
This photo represents geometrical patterns and shapes created by the architecture and reflection of the Prudential Plaza in Jacksonville, FL. I walk past this building so many times, but one day managed to stand underneath it, and discovered this magic.
The architect is KBJ Architects from Jacksonville, FL, a firm responsible for shaping the incoming Jacksonville skyline we have today.

As I've been challenged by Lana to post 3 landscapes, and Michael reminded me of those days when my camera was simply an extension of myself rather than an occasional accessory, I dug deep into the archives of early 2011...and I found a reminder of golden mornings and the snowy fields of my home.
And I remembered how much I loved those moments. Cold though they were....
As rays of light, descend and shine
