Thomas the Apostle, also known as Didymus was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. Thomas is commonly known as "Doubting Thomas" because he initially doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ when he was told of it (as is related in the Gospel of John); he later confessed his faith ("My lord and my God") on seeing the places where the wounds appeared still fresh on the holy body of Jesus after the Crucifixion of Jesus. While it is often assumed he touched the wounds in art and poetry, the scriptures do not say that he touched the wounds, merely that Jesus invited him to do so, with it being unclear if he actually felt them.

Bartholomew the Apostle was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. Most scholars today identify Bartholomew as Nathanael, who appears in the Gospel of John.

As you head further east in the wheatbelt of Western Australia the land degrades as it becomes drier and a struggle to farm. This is an illustration of what happens after years of land-clearing for farming in a marginal area.

As soon as I snapped one, this bald eagle looked straight at me, then I snapped this one. They are majestic looking birds.
As the moon rose over Fae Landing, Trini kept silent as the fireflies flickered, the foxes running from yard to yard. He took it all in thinking how lucky he was to be here and now.
As the fog cloud in the background starts to burn off due to the sun rising, a typical BNSF coal load passes south Monument with a pretty clean SD70ACe leading.
“Ahem…seeing as you’re all here, let’s begin, the solicitor began. “The document reads as follows…” He was squinting. “Would someone find a light switch? I can’t see in this bloody darkness.”
“Ahem… now as I was saying…I, Patrick Paul Downes, residing in the city of Sligo, of the same county, Ireland, and being of sound mind, this, the twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-four, hear-by appoint Mr. Fred (Freddy Duh) Mavins, of Sligo executor of my estate on confirmation of my death.”
“Ah, shite,” Mary Quinn, sister of the deceased, whispered to her twin sister, Maggie. “The eejit went and done it. And Freddy Duh isn’t even here. If there was work in the bed, Freddy would sleep on the floor.”
“Hush, Mary. Shut up and listen to the man,” Maggie replied.
“The executor shall promptly pay any and all outstanding debts and assignments….”
The sisters and others had already quit listening to the legal boilerplate, and were eyeing the tea pot and biscuits that had been brought in and placed on a nearby table.
“I hate to admit it, but I’m glad Yuki left. I never liked having that foreign girl here. Pat Paul was better off without the woman,” Mary hissed.
Maggie put her hand on Mary’s leg. “Settle down. We said what was needed to be said. Today will be our reward.”
“Why did we have to be here so damn early in the morning?” Jimmy Joyce muttered under his breath. Seven AM? Christ almighty. He had cows to feed. Well, then again, maybe old Pat Paul would have though about that; hence the early hour.
“Ahem.” Declan O’Connor, the solicitor, tried to make eye contact with the group.
‘Now, the distribution of the estate is as follows…’’
That seemed to work, O’Connor noted. All eyes were upon him. You could hear the proverbial pin drop.
“To my lifelong fishing buddy, Jimmy Joyce, I leave my 17-foot lake boat, my Yamaha 5 horsepower engine, and all my fishing gear.“
Jimmy Joyce beamed. Pat Paul always went first class when it came to fishing. God bless ya, Jimmy thought.
“To my local parish, my church, Our Lady of Eternal Sorrows, and that lovely new priest, Father Akachukwu, recently arrived from Nigeria, I leave ten thousand Euro, to be used toward the recompense of people abused in their National School during the 1950s… the 1960s…the 1970s… the 1980s…
Father Akachukwu beamed.
Having little English, Father Akachukwu had no idea what had just been said, but he had heard his name, and knew what ten thousand Euro was.
Now we’re getting to the meat on the table, Maggie thought to herself.
“To my son, Patrick Paul Junior, who fecked off to America twenty years ago, and never sent so much as a postcard, I leave one Euro.”
Mary and Maggie gasped.
Patrick Paul Junior, who had at last returned to the auld sod for the reading of the will, spit on the rug and left the room; never, it was imagined by those in attendance, ever to be seen again.
“If I hurry, I maybe can catch the noon flight out of Shannon,” he thought to himself, as he fumbled for his mobile phone and the keys to the hire car. “The old gobshite…”
“To my sisters, Mary, and Mildred,” (who winced at hearing her given name) “Despite their constant bickering, and meddling in my affairs, I leave the remainder of my estate.”
Mary and Maggie beamed.
A month earlier, Patrick Paul Downes, knowing he was dying, had strolled into Mullaney’s in town and purchased a new suit, a couple of shirts, and a sharp looking necktie.
He’d then walked to the other side of the shop, to Mullaney’s travel agency, and had them arrange for airfare, a hotel, plus a car and driver, for a long-overdue holiday abroad. He wore the suit out of the shop, lacking a final tailoring, but suitable for his next task.
He stopped at the Bank of Ireland, whose manager knew him well, to arrange for a loan for the full market value of his property. The manager looked at Pat Paul; looked at the suit, and determined Pat Paul must of made a killing on the ponies at the local horse track. Loan approved.
Taking all the cash and life savings he’d gathered from beneath his mattress at home, he flew off to Monte Carlo a few days later. Pat Paul went to the grand casino, marched up to the first roulette table he saw, and bet it all on black. The wheel came up red.
Patrick Paul beamed.

As we get closer to spring, Australian Wattle trees start to flower. This is from the bush near my house in suburban Perth, Western Australia.

As I peeled the potatoes for dinner I suddenly noticed ..... one had a little face!
So out came the cocktail sticks and a white press pin .... there he was "Spike the red Hedgehog" made by me, but designed by nature!!!!!

As we wandered down this lane in the dark to get further in to Sherwood Forest, a bank of fog rolled in. It would have been rude not to do a quick run and gun photo taking advantage of the epic atmosphere created by the mist.
As I photographed the full moon coming down, the sun was rising behind me. The clouds in the corner caught a little of the light from the rising sun, and turned an awesome color.
As the evening sun sets over the Atlantic across the Bay of Kommentjie I captured this one. It is filled in my mind and eye with whimsical dreams and soft finesse of what would be my perfect calming dream of a magical place.
These filled the frame a wonderful sight,a single in front and these two behind got a single shot of the one in front as well.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. As I sit and witness this extraordinary sunset unfold here in south Texas, with wonderful colors and cloud shapes. I am amazed at natures phenomenal display of colors during "Sunsets Magic Moments".

As ‘32 Ford (“Deuce”) rods go, this one is a really clean example. Thankfully conditions at the moment allowed a nice, unobstructed view of this car, always something of a fleeting moment at any given Cars & Coffee type event!

Macro Monday: #Danger
Width of the frame: 3 cm / 1,18 inches
Oh, how much I hate to accidentally cut myself on paper. And how much more often has that happenend compared to a knive accident in the kitchen. We are surrounded by potentially dangerous things, aren't we? And one of those things is the inconspicious paper, evil in the guise of the daily newspaper, a book, a white, empty sheet of paper, the information leaflet... Admittedly, I've slightely exaggerated the consequences here, because a "paper cut" is never that bloody, but it bloody well hurts anyway ;-)
Simple ingredients used: strip of paper (of course), placed on my semi-glossy white tile and fixated with a small piece of modelling clay (which I forgot to remove with the healing [healing!] brush, *sigh*), because the droplet of "blood" always made it fall over. The "blood" consists of water and glycerol, tinted with red watercolour. Glycerol increases the water's surface tension and helps to stabilise the droplets (thank you very much for the advice, Bine&Minka2007!). A 50-50 mixture is recommended, but you should experiment with the mixing ratio, I used a 40 (water) to 60 (glycerol) mixing ratio for this. You can also use glycerol only. Since it is a fairly greasy substance, I'd recommend to have a bottle of make-up remover at hand which works really well to clean the surfaces you've used the glycerol on.
Other uses for glycerol? On the bottle I got from my local chemist it says that fir branches and Christmas trees last longer when you add a little glycerol to the water (4 tablespoons of glycerol in 1 l of water), and it is also recommended as a frost protection agent for rubber seals of, for instance, fridge or car doors. Speaking of frost protection agent... I vaguely remember the 1985 diethylene glycol wine scandal, where Austrian wineries adulterated their wines with diethylene glycerol... but that's an altogether different matter... ;-)
A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!

...sondern scharf wie ein Messer kann Papier sein. Papier war sogar das erste, das mir einfiel, als ich das neue MM-Thema erfuhr. Denn wie oft habe ich mich schon versehentlich an Papier geschnitten. Sicherlich öfter als am Küchenmesser, das man ja auch mit entsprechender Sorgfalt handhabt. Papier hingegen, das harmlose Zettelchen, Blatt, der Beipackzettel... ein unachtsamer Moment und... Autsch! Natürlich habe ich hier etwas übertrieben, denn so "blutig" ist ein Papier-Schnitt selten, aber er tut schon ziemlich gemein weh... ;-)
Den schmalen Streifen aus etwas dickerem Papier habe ich mit einem kleinen Kügelchen Knete (das ich auch noch wegzustempeln vergessen habe...) auf der matt-glänzenden Fliese befestigt, weil der "Blutstropfen" das Röllchen immer zum Überkippen brachte. Das "Blut" ist eine Mischung aus Wasser und Glycerin, gefärbt mit roter Wasserfarbe aus dem Tuschkasten. Vielen Dank übrigens an Bine&Minka2007 für den Tipp mit dem Glycerin. Christa macht ja immer die schönsten Tropfenfotos und ich hatte vor einiger Zeit mal nachgefragt, wie sie ihre Tröpfchen stabilisiert. Das recht ölige Glycerin erhöht die Oberflächenspannung des Wassers, sodass die Tropfen fester werden und länger halten. Ich habe gelesen, dass allgemein ein 50-50-Mischverhältnis empfohlen wird, aber man sollte ruhig damit experimentieren, ich hatte z.B. eine 40(Wasser)-zu-60(Glycerin)-Mischung angerührt. Man kann auch das reine Glycerin nehmen. Make-up-Entferner eignet sich übrigens vorzüglich, um das Zeug auch wieder rückstandslos zu entfernen.
Und wofür kann man Glycerin noch verwenden? Auf meinem Fläschchen aus der Apotheke las ich mit Interesse, dass Tannenzweige und der Weihnachtsbaum länger halten, wenn man 4 Esslöffel davon auf einen Liter ihres "Trink"wassers gibt. Außerdem soll es ein hervorragendes Frostschutzmittel für Gummidichtungen z.B. an Kühlschrank- oder Autotüren sein. Apropos Frostschutzmittel... Da gab es doch vor ewiger Zeit (1985, ich musste gleich mal nachschauen) diesen Weinpanscher-Skandal... aber das ist ein anderes Thema ;-)
